The IMF has supported tax increases during economic turmoil (most recently in 1998 Pakistan). This has never been a policy of the Republican party since Barry Goldwater's success in the 60's.
The one time this occurred, was when Bush Sr. was strong armed into doing it by a Democratic legislation ... and he quickly found himself with a large body of disenchanted Republicans (see Patrick Buchanan 1992; Ross Perot 1992) and was ousted.
So again, the IMF is not right wing by American standards. Just because they may be in bed with some business interests, thier policies do not match today's Republican party.
