Minority Report: very underrated fun little game
I was looking through my Cube games for something to play (I've got a bunch of games I picked up dirt cheap and never really played), and decided to give Minority Report another try. I played it for like 5 minutes when I got it at Best Buy for 10 bucks, thought it was a boring 3d Streets of Rage, and shelved it. Going back to it though, I played it for hours. It's a lot of fun, it's a very simple and visceral game with all the cool stuff from the movie like the jetpacks, sick-sticks, sonic shotguns, levels that leap right out of the movie, etc. It's also got a fun canned combo system.
The story follows the movie's plot very loosely, for some reason (probably licensing) Tom Cruise's John Anderton character isn't in the game. Instead, John Anderton is a big diesel guy with a white crew cut voiced by the Kurgan from the original Highlander. Also, the reason he's been set up for a precrime is completely different. While I like that it gives the game the chance to do the movie with a fresh feel, it's not like the game does anything with it. The story never really develops cleanly, for example if you never saw the movie you'd have no idea why Anderton is looking for the old lady or what the precogs are exactly.
Product placement runs rampant but fits with the setting (In the movie there are peronalized moving billboards everywhere, in the game there's moving Lexus and Nokia billboards everywhere that do have the eye readers). It'd be really annoying in most other games.
In the end the game is a really simple yet fun and addictive Minority Report themed beat em' up with tons of unlockables (some of which make no sense, like "Robot John Anderton"). I'd say Treyarch did an amazing job, I can't imagine anyone else realistically making a better Minority Report game (it's not like it's a big license that a huge developer would take on). Anyone else played it? It's available for all 3 consoles, I assume they're all the same.
