I'll go on Mistmoore soon, all I know is that my character name is Roufuss.
I'll add the other details later when I actually, you know, install it.
Getting this soon and will probably play on Guk with some old (from beta4 =/) EQ friends.
I'll be playing a Dwarf warrior by the name of Durain.
Ok well, I guess I won't be getting on until I can get past this fucking CRC error at install.
it will be a bit before i can get on, just noticed its a BEEEG file, and my comp dosent have that much free space on the hd, so i have to get more disc space
Only 4 gb or so, rather small for an MMORPG.Quote:

Weird, it only installed at 4 gb, unless they are estimating patches and all that.Quote:

It does download more after installation, though I doubt it was 3 gigs worth since it didn't take all that long for me to download them.
I will check it when I get home and see what the size is on my hard drive.
btw, I fixed this, what an annoying problem.Quote:

Are we cool with Mistmoore as the TNL server, or do you want to change it to Guk?... it's early now so if you want to I have no problem so let me know :)
I already put my guy in Mistmoore, but if we can make multiple characters without paying extra then ya, I'm down for whatever.Quote:

I talked to the old guys and they are playing on Guk so that's where I'll be when I get in. Moving to Guk would be cool, but it's up to you guys.Quote:

I might be picking this one up. With having a little pet dragon around the house it is quite tempting ;P
I believe you only get that for that 90 dollar collector's edition, so better get it soon.Quote:

Looking at some of the official stats, and wow, some people are already level 20  I sure hope they raise the level cap from 50, sure seems awful low now.
Game is awesome looking too, with all the water and flora effects turned on.
It's also nice to see that even though this game released on the same day as Halo 2, that EQ 2 has a shitload of players, so many that Sony is rolling out SIX new servers.
ok im on, my chars are both on guk
Name: oscath
Race:iksar male
Class:warrior(planned for paladin)
Alignment:evil(for now)
level:5
Name :kertix
Race:kerra male
CLass:scout(planned for ranger)
Align:good

and rouf, it was ff11 that charged for each additional guy..another reason i dropped it square has the worst customer appreciation, bar none. swg just didnt let you have more than one on a server but no extra charge if you wanted 8 guys, so long as they were on seperate servers.. As you can tell from my chars, you can have at least 2 chars on the same server.
4 characters per account.. all on the same server or spread to whatever severs you like.
my guild is playing on unrest.. so looks like i wont be seeing any of the TRL crew around.
if anyone gets on unrest send a /t to Decarabas.
Guess I'll make a character on Mistmore, have an 8 fighter on Befallen and right now mistmore is down....
So far this game has exceeded my expectation by far.
Oh I'm retarted, we're on guk now.

Race: Dark Elf (I always wanted to be a DE monk)

How is this game? I've played every MMORPG and Everquest 1 started that all. I like MMORPGs but none of them have kept my attention for too long. City of Heroes was awesome at first but had nothing to keep my interest. WoW is awesome but not out yet. (played stress test).... and FFXI had no soloing which I like to do sometimes.
Dear god the game is... well so far, excellent. It's definatly got my attention from the beginning better than Everquest did at first.
First off the graphics: Dear god I did not think you could do graphics that slick in a MMO game... the animations, textures and the size of places like Antonica (IT's MASSIVE) is just blowing my mind.
Gameplay: Go up, initialize a fight, and Like FFXI the encounter locks, at first it seemed like a bad idea but it works well enough. Call for help the encounter breaks, or if you run like hell the other way that works as well. You get a skill at each level, which does make every level feel more valuable than those every 4 or so in Everquest.
Techniques you can use them, they each have their own timer Meaning you can do some heafty comboage. But they also created what's called a heroic opportunity system, what you do is you activate it, then a certain attack if matching will flash, you do this to begin the heroic oppurtiity which is basicaly like a special attack. But in a group combinations of attacks from each character can contribute to advancing the opportunity. I don't quite have it perfected or anything, but I can do a pretty simple one
Start Heroic Opportunity -> Wild Swing (Begins one of three attacks I"ve seen so far, don't know how it decides) -> Taunt to finish the attack ranging from normal damage to like 40 at level 7.
Class System is completely different though, you start off as a level 1 commoner, then when you get to the newbie island you tell a certain guy which main class (Fighter, Priest, Mage, Scout) you want to be. Then you go on as that class till level 8 where you can start your class quest, and at level 10 after completing it you can chose a class within the main category you picked. Then at level 20 I guess you get another quest to pick your specific sub class. Mine will be like this
Fighter - Brawler - Monk.
Also for tradeskills you can find like roots or rocks that you can highlight and harvest to get materials out of, this gives you something to do when health is low.
Make one on Guk, hopefully we can get a few more people on that server here :)Quote:

Truth.
And oh, on the Isle of Refuges, try and do as many of the quests as you can, and call the named enemies, namely Bladefin, the ghost pirate captain, find the guys parts, kill the goblin siege planner.
The drops help immensely in the early game.
Yep quests are very helpful not only for items but you gain experience as well by completing them, I've done quite a few quests so far on the island so far myself.
I'm aiming to get Druid class and then Warden subclass later ^..^
I am definitely disappointed in you, Werewolf, for getting EQ2 over WoW. :(
WOW sucks though.
I was undecided on which to get really, I went with EverQuest II since EverQuest has been around a long time so they have lots of experience with them and well... I like the Druid wolf form :D
I updated the thread a bit, that should make it easier for people to see who's on the TNL server and view character jobs, levels, etc..
No, EQ2 sucks. There's not even any PvP, which is really the only real long-term content any of these games have.Quote:

Something I find to be spectacular is how perfect windowed mode is. I can switch to aim, type in aim, while EQII runs perfectly on my desktop. I love it Hell I can do things in EQII with an aim window up.
yoshi, the lack of pvp was a big postive as to why i got eq2. I have yet to find an online game that had a pvp community that did not push me away from the game. Its not so much the mechanics as the mindset of pvpers, its not one i enjoy playing with, so i generally only play mmo's with either no pvp, or very limited pvp, as city of heroes is supposedly going to have.Quote:

EDIT FOR THIEFSILVER: sorry i didnt talk when you messaged me, im still getting a hand on the chatting, it wouldnt let me answer. im going for paladin
Oh, I mentioned that to him, and apparently I "just didn't play the game long enough", even though I sunk 6 months into building an awesome character for nothing.Quote:

Not to mention they really need to tone down the number of credits you can get in those missions, the game's not so hard when I can just buy my way through everything.
Though, as I usually mention, if SOE actually gets off it's ass for once and delivers at least the combat rebalance, i'll resubscribe and give it another shot. They've said they are planning for it in janurary, so I'll just have to wait and see.
EQ 1 had a couple of PvP servers on it, and I'm fairly confident that EQ 2 will get some in time as well.
Plus, hurray for EQ 2 having real quests, and hundreds of them at that. If there's one thing I hate in MMORPG's is the "terminal quests", which are the same 5 variations, with a few enemies, at a spawning point. Anarchy Online and SWG had them, but I'm glad they went with the more FFXI way of giving quests.
I'll make a character on Guk soon, after I get through the rest of these noob quests on Mistmoore and get to level 10.
Why go through the effort on Mistmore if I may ask? Sooner you switch over the sooner you get to level 10 here. And yeah, the quests are actually fun.. and short! I mean I completed 3 within 20 minutes, that's awesome.
Some are pretty long.Quote:

It would help if they didn't pick a TNL server and then change it, I don't care enough to switch it immediately, and I'll do it at my leisure. And once you know where to go for all the quests and such, you can probably hit level 10 in a few hours.
One of the best things is the large amount of experiance you get for exploring (At least at low levels) You could probably hit level 8 from 7 by merely exploring all of Qeynos.
I guess that Makes sense Roufuss, Look forward to having you join us eventually.
WoW had quests but they were all stupid fetch quests. At level 2 I was doing, "kill 10 boars". At level 10, I was doing "kill 15 dire boars". It was awful. Does EQ at least try to mix it up or is it the same bullshit that WOW does?
When I finished my citizenship quest I went from Level 6 to almost 9, since it caps the experience at level 6, and you can accumlate it until you finish the quest.Quote:

What are you guys talking about when you say a 'cap'?
Do you mean you can only get so much exp per level up... like say I get 5000 xp from a baddy and that makes me level to level 7 but the cap is 4000xp so then I lose 1000xp?
No, before you get citizen ship (So basically still hanging in the newb area) You can't get past level 6, but the XP builds up so when you do get citizen ship you'll get the levels you would have gotten.
Oh ok. So I hear this game becomes a group only game around level 10. That is a BIG turn off for me. Is this true or not? FFXI was great but I HATED finding a group. It was so boring and not fun. I like soloing sometimes when I only have an hour to kill in-game and don't have time to find a group (a good one too) and go kill stuff.
I'm almost past level 10 and I can still solo, and occasionally I need to find a group to kill a big baddie, which isn't a problem because usually a couple other people need to do the same thing. I think, like in other MMORPG's, it depends largely on the class you pick. I'm a priest right now, and I've got a defense buff, and can weaken enemies, before I hit them, so it tilts the odds in my favor.Quote:

It also caps off around 11 I think, where you get your first "subclass", and then again at around level 20.Quote:

Gotta love the buffs, when someone in your group gives you a buff, and you leave the group, the buff wears off. No longer will we have to deal with SWG level strongmen where it takes a small army to kill them.
And all my characters are deleted.
Apparently due to servers/zones going down some characters are not showing up and you may get a message saying "you are not registered for Everquest II"
No big deal
Yeah I got kicked too :p
I am still getting use to using a keyboard and mouse, I'm so used to using a gamepad
That is why I asked first, you we're only level 1 at that time when I asked... well let me know when you do make a character on Guk so I can add you to the list :)Quote:

Basically as you're going through it, you select the recipe, you have a list of materials that are required (apparently you can substitute certain things for some of them.) and it starts making it, you have a durability meter and a progress meter.
There are one to four stages of making a product, first stage being crude, second stage being ... something else, third being a good product while fourth is a pristine product. I think the quality of the components you work with may determine how far you can take a product you're working on but I am not sure. To make things though you have to either run around making things at each thing like I need to make a leather hilt at the sewing machine, make the tin blade in the forge, and maybe create the hilt or so, then go to wherever I can combine them probably at the forge still, and do so.
I can actually imagine a guild getting a person in each area specialized and just having like a manufacturing line or something.
To get a lot of the basic materials though, you have to go out and forage or gather them yourselves, like a lot of things require roots which you can only get by gathering from... well.. roots.
Like the bazaa from Everquest, people set up a merchant listing in their home and sell crap, which is a cool idea. Then you go to a broker and find a list of everything that's being sold in the area based on what you desire.
My only real problem I've been having is... I don't have room for all the tradeskill items I need, I have each inventory slot filled with a bag, but it's still not enough.
From what I've read, the person needs to be there at all times though to sell the stuff, they can't just leave the house and have someone come in and buy it when they aren't there.Quote:

And I think the fact there's no huge auction or anything really makes people work for the items they get.
Haven't had much time to play, as I've been busy tweaking the new PC, but I should get back on soon.
Yes, that is true that you have to be there. People have been talking and suggesting that perhaps you be able to hire someone to sell in your place or something, but I think it's better this way. It keeps the market from being monopolized as easily by someone who's there all the time.
And you only have to be online, you can set it up and leave, but once you log out it then isn't active.
This actually sounds like a good idea. Maybe it will keep the /shouts for "+5 str earrings, +4 int ring 5Kpp" to a minimum. Maybe not.Quote:

Yea but it sucks that you can't do anything except just sit in your house.Quote:

No matter how you slice it, it's still a stupid solution, since it's just a waste of game time.
I have a feeling it'll get changed soon, anyways.
Also it seems too many people solo, and there's not enough interaction, hopefully that'll change when I get into higher levels.
Soloing was perfectly viable in EQ for most classes until about 20 or so. I was even soloing in Kunark in caves near the coast as a warrior at level 34. The going is slow and it's kinda lonely but it gets the job done.Quote:

You mean* Nerf everything Six?
Anyways I've gotten some good groups after level 10, it's been pretty nice.
So I also have a character on the Lavastorm server, she's a level 12 crusader and a level 11 outfitter. Tradeskills are fun and a good way to make cash is to take on the wholesalers tasks involving gathering certain materials and giving them to him.
IN order to harvest things on the Antonica or Commonlands you have to have a 40+ skill in foresting, or mining, or gathering etc. Some people have complained, but I like it. This means that I don't have to worry about people hording the materials I need from the plains.
Anyways, I've created a few weapons and whatnot and a few random things which have kept me entertained. There were a few bugs such as Threadbare thread sold for 1 silver 25 copper... (it costs like 12 copper to make) they locked it and then changed the price.
Also making tin plating... it doesn't work, i'ts very bugged :(
EDIT: Well about PVP, I prefer they fix any sort of bugs before they throw out PVP :/.
Shit I wish I had time for this game =/
Between Half Life 2, Vampire: Bloodlines, Pirates! next week, and the backlog of games I already have to play (Doom 3, Far Cry, Painkiller, Dawn of War) I just can't sink the time into this I want to.
Plus no PvP is really starting to get to me. Sure, I'll take no PvP over badly implemented PvP (like star wars galaxies), but Verant should know how to make awesome PvP by now.
Roufuss STOP BUYING SO MANY GAMES ARGH!!!11111oneone

There's just no time for EQ 2 =/
I've been playing this a bit, I'm up to around almost level 16 and only need 4 more levels to get my Warden subclass now ^..^
I really need to figure out how to do crafting, what kinds of trade skill crafting is there by the way?
Ok, so I'm level 10 right now.
Please someone tell me that there are HUGE lands to explore, and I don't have to ring the fucking bell everytime to go to a place that's filled with 200 people all hunting the same stuff, and not talking.
I was expecting something like FFXI / SWG, instead I got "here's a town, ring a bell, go to this area, ring another bell, etc etc". I like big open lands to explore, I want to go from town to wilderness to town, and not have the game just take me there.
I'm seriously considering ditching this and moving on to World of Warcraft, I didn't expect EQ 2 to be like this at all =/
There are huge areas, you can only take the boat to a few places outside of Freeport... I've been exploring and I've seen tons of different areas and I really haven't seen that much given the size of the lands, probably not even 1% :p
You don't have to ring the bell and take the boat if you don't want to, I hardly ever use it... you can just walk out the gates and explore ;)
So how do I get to places like The Ruins then without the bell?Quote:

As for kertix, he hit level 9 last night, i am loving being a scout, "tracking" makes missions a breeze, if you are in the same zone, it makes a glowie trail to the target, its almost cheating:D the damage is ok, if you set up the sneak attacks right, i can see it being slow for teaming with people due to my lack of relative damage, but right now its golden.
Um yeah.. antonica and the commonlands? ARE FUCKING HUGE. It's incredible.. I spent over an hour travelling and gathering stuff from one side to another.
I got level 20 Warden last night, and "Protector of the Forest" spell ^..^
I'm getting more into crafting, it is actually a lot of fun I agree and I like it much better then Final Fantasy XI's since there is a lot more interaction during crafting.
im just hitting level 12 predator with kertix. wolf, you still in freeport, or did you do the betrayel mission? Im still looking to see any qeuynos based tnl'ers to come along with, i am seriously chomping at the bit for the frogloks to get released, i want a froglok paladin!
To be honest I haven't really thought about that yet, I might do that but if I do I want to finish up some more quests in Freeport before I do... my main focus was getting to level 20 and getting Warden from the start :DQuote:

Give me a /tell in game if you want to group or whatever.
Is anyone still playing this? I am debating picking up a StationAccess pass, which would give me EQ, EQII, Planetside, EQ:OA, etc. access for an additional $6/month.

I fear that this is the only redeeming quality of the game, but we shall see.Quote:

Sorry. I'm not paying $15 to do the two days' worth of content that I haven't done in WoW.Quote:

Leveling is much, much easier than it ever has been reducing time needed in zones and emptying lower level areas. Quest givers now have indicators floating above their heads removing any reason for actual quest text short of the list of things to kill. Death has no more meaning short of some equipment repair and minor debt removing most risk/reward from encounters.
It's even more "eq-lite" than it was before. :(
I hit 50, though, and that's something I always wanted to do from the old days. But it was so easy it didn't really seem like an accomplishment at all.
Screw it. EQ2 is dead. And since there are better places to debate the various styles of MMOGs I'll leave it at that.
At least Vanguard : Saga of Heroes has potential. It's designed by some of the main people behind the original EQ. And maybe they'll get it right ala EQ before the big nerfs and expansions (post Kunark).

oh and im probably going to be playing again soon, fugging gu comics awakened my inner f-chan by mentioning the new soga models, and my friends are likely going to be playing again, so im going to try to make a iksar paladin on lucian server. does anyone else still play?
Don't do it.
SOE managed to screw up the two things that were good about EQ2. Now it's a WoW clone with a shrinking community and post expansion economy destruction. If you want floating quest helper icons, map markers, no death penalty and other nonsense just play WoW.
i tired wow, and while i didnt hate it, i didnt like it very much. it was nowhere near eq2's depth, no character customization, and the racial selection just sucked ass, it was pretty much the mmo for the lowest common denomonator. but i have tried eq2 already and have made peace with the changes. even simplified, its still not as dumbed down as wow, and the community cant possibly be worse.
EDIT: the non-tnl community i mean :p
