The DS screen was beautifully lit when I was using it yesterday. All three things I fiddled with (Menu stuff, Pictochat, and Metroid Prime Hunters) all looked brighter and clearer than the SP in a fully lit room.

I was trying to figure out how to do that when I was using the demo unit. I didn't see any switches that really looked like a light switch, but maybe I just over looked it. |-)

It's not that I didn't understand it and it's not that it was hard to follow, it's that it was an EBGames reader review. Seriously. Go read a bunch of EB Games reader reviews, notice how they write, how it's presented, the pure flow of ADD conciousness, and the typing skill. Much like how remarking a review that goes on for seven pages is an IGN review, that was an EB Games reader review.

Supposivly it's in some options menu of some sort, I don't really know where though because I havn't gotten my hands on one of these suckers yet.

Uhh... I played a DS today. Crazy as it may sound, after playing Metroid Whateveritiscalled on it, I actually think the DS does the FPS genre far better - control wise - than any controller-based console FPS ever has. That thing controls like butter.

They should turn the DS into a console FPS controller.

Yeah, the stylus/d-pad + L button thing looks to be really sick. I hope they find great ways to utilize the touch screen as it goes.

shidoshi, that ringing endorsement puts my mind at ease, as I didn't think it could work all that well. I can't wait to play backlit GBA stuff, Advance Guardian Heroes should look swank on it.

The way I understand it thus far, is that there's going to be out-of-the-box WAN support in it for playing local area multiplayer games when consoles are within 30-100 feet of eachother, and other games may utilize wifi hotspots for online content/multiplayer.

Summary: It probably depends on the game.

I am reading that as local multiplayer will be handled the same was as the wireless multiplay adaptors for the GBA work (cool), and that wide-area network play will not be offically supported by Nintendo (weak), and as such no developer will ever bother.

Bleh.

Let's see...this would be a coherent way of describing Hunters:

When I played Metroid Prime: Hunters at e3, it was for two reasons. One, I waited in that damn line 2 hours to try the DS out, and be damned if I copped out now. Two, everything else was being played at the moment. Trust me, I wasn't looking forward to an FPS on a hanheld, in 3D, with stylus controls.

Good thing all the other games were taken though.

Hunters was a unique experience. Stylus looking and d-pad strafing felt so...natural that it was hard to think of any other way to do a FPS in such a seamless fashion on such a tiny system. The gameplay was fast, furious, fun, and easy to get adjusted to. For the southpaws out there like me, you can even use the face buttons over the d-pad. Nice.

Even the graphics weren't that bad. Mind you, I'm not saying the DS (or the PSP for that matter) can handle 3D like its big brother, but Hunters is a long jump in graphical prowess over the only other 3D portable we've known til this point. Yeah, the Nokia N-Gage. Bleh.

3 minutes with Hunters is hardly enough time to figure out its worth, or the true potential of the DS, but it shows promise. Between May and today, some things have changed. Hunters will have multiple control schemes (YES!), wireless and linked play (to my knowledge), and a 'LITE' version will come packed in with the DS. Think of it as more than a demo but less than the actual game. With Hunters coming bundled alongside Picto Chat, the Nintendo DS already promises two games (applications?) that will be universal to all who own the portable. A good idea for a system who's main thrust is interactivity between players and wireless competition on the go.

So see, even if you don't agree with me, at least I clearly pointed out what I liked and why. If I spent more time playing Hunters (or had a Game Crazy near me), I could back up my opinions even more with specific game mechanics. But when you post one long tirade that lacks any sense of structure, you come off as ranting. It's not that your opinion doesn't matter - you just fail to bring it in a way that's easy to read.

Okay Hero I will take a writing class before I post anymore threads, Whatever. I do have a question about the DS though. Can we see a possible MMORPG with the DS since it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and stuff?
