If Marvel wins in court it'll be as disappointing as the results of the presidential election. I've just about lost all hope for this country. :p
That kinda sucks, although I wish Marvel and NCSoft would come to some sorta agreement so that the characters are licensed and we don't get some crappy CoH ripoff that is *official* and does the same thing...
Didnt Marvel pull this shit on Freedom Force, too? I mean, yea, they should defend their property, but lets be real, the people making these characters are huge Marvel fans are undoubtedly buying whatever shit Marvel poops out, and are probably lining up on opening day for the latest movie Marvel has fellated Hollywood to get out. They arent losing any business from this, especially since there's no fucking official Marvel-licensed superhero MMO.
Marvel = the bad guys.
Actually that's pretty true diff. I have a friend that works for NCsoft. He said that the company paid for the employees to go see Spiderman 2 when it came out. The irony man.
I think Marvel's just trying to get as much money as they can since they don't even own full rights to their characters anymore.
Well Marvel sucks nowadays anyway. Outside of licensing properties to movie studios, their comics sucks (with the possible exception of the Ultimate line). I mean, just look at the current issues of Amazing Spider-Man with Spidey facing off agaisnt Gwen Stacy's hyper-aged kids. If that doesn't scream hack writing, then I don't know what does.
I knew someone would put teh hate on Marvel. There are alot of good titles out now, you just have to look for them.Quote:

I liked the whole Gwen Stacy thing, I know she's a very important part of Peter's past but I just didn't care enough to cause a hoopla over it. Hell the movies didn't even put her in, the character was more or less combined with Mary Jane. JMS made Gwen more interesting IMO.
You should see how the comic forums reacted to this, they fucking flipped out and called it the worst retcon since the clone saga. Proof that some comic fans have gone completely insane and should move on.
Anyway I don't agree on the whole sueing the City of Heroes brand. It's extremely lame on their part on suing anything that has anything remotely related to superheroes. What's next, sueing Disney/Pixar for the Incredibles?
While I'm not that knowledgeable in the law when it comes to this type of thing, maybe burgundy can help here but here's what the EIC Joe Quesada said about on newsarama.com :
I'm a Marvel whore but they did not invent superheroes.Quote:
One other thing I would like to point out...
If you own characters and people create characters too close to comfort to your own and make money on this, well...you have to go after them, no matter if it is an individual or a company. you have to protect your creation, no matter how big or small. if you let one person get away with this, you weaken the chances to go after others in future cases..and to some, their character is their life/bread and butter. let these get away with this...and then whats next. I understand some peoples point, but lets be honest...they are making money hand over fist on this and it would not exist if it were not for the creations of others.
should they be sued? no idea, but they should work something out...its not paraody and it's not one time use.
I have characters i am trying to sell to video game companies. if someone reads my book and sells a character close to mine...uncomfortably close to mine... there is a chance i can lose my deal and you can bet I won't sit on my ass and do nothing about it. it's all about coptrights and tradmarks. thats what it will all come down to.
Next up: THQ/Yukes and the ease of being able to make Spider-Man in WWE's games.
