Rights to Street Fighter Franchise Sold To Capcom USA

This sucks. Straight from the horse's mouth , longtime Capcom character designer Akira Yasuda, AKA Akiman, has posted on his blogsite that the rights to Street Fighter have been sold to Capcom USA, and that any future SF games will be developed by them.

Aside from the obvious joke that will no doubt be posted many times in this thread regarding the general incompetence of the last few CapJap fighting releases, this sucks. Every fighting game ever made outside Japan has been complete and utter garbage (though in the case of Mortal Kombat, amusing complete and utter garbage).

Barring massive evidence to the contrary (like, a brain-fryingly kickass CapUSA SF), I hereby pronounce this franchise dead.

The Brits and Aussies were the best fighting game makers pre-SF2 but other than that I agree. This is shitty news.

Well thanks for getting the "everything made in america sucks because it's american" out of the way right quick. On subject, I'm sure nobody gives a damn anymore. It's fairly known to even the most diehard SF fan that the series has been dead & buried for some time now. I know I haven't really cared about anything CoJ has put out fighting-game wise since the phase between SFA3 and CvS1, and I'm sure lots of people are on my block about the subject too.

Now let's see how many posts it takes before people stop by to complain about how it will affect the story lines. :chick:

This isn't about American games sucking. This is about American fighting games being god-awful across the board, which is a completely true statement.

In a weird way, this could be the best thing to ever happen to the series in years (besides putting it out of its misery). Go find a couple of designers who have a keen sense for how SF works, get some new art/programming staff on the case and something interesting could happen. The odds of that happening are zero, though.

This can be good for the following reasons-

- It has become clear with this generation that Western based development owns Japanese based development. Capcom USA has even come a long way with just Maximo. You never know, but maybe this trend could have rubbed off on them. American development seems a lot less ignorant than the Japanese, one of the main reasons why some of our most beloved franchises have fallen from grace.

- Udon. The best god damned group of people on the face of the planet to every touch the Capcom characters. The SF comic is masterfully done, the endings to Capcom Fighting Jam were brilliant, these guys are basically gold. If anything, the art for these games will be amazing.

- And I got no third point.

It basically comes down to "You never know".

I believe this news that really isn't news. One less franchise in the hands of the Japanese is one more game I'll buy.

Capcom has joined Sega among the dead. The Japanese pride rests completely with Konami now.
