My poor PC got F*****d !!!!

Well, My fucking RoadRunner wasnt working right last few days. Connection was ridicilously slow, and I coudnt not find any problems on my end. So yesterday, I got on the line with their techsupport, and was following their directions (unplug cable modem, shutdown firewall, turnoff your pc, etc).

Anyway, when I rebooted my PC, I got this lovely message that my Win XP Pro cant find files in \Windows\System32\Config\System or they become corrupted. Really came out of nowhere, since I didnt had any problems with Win in a while. Anyway, tried to go through Win Recovery Console, but that directory doesnt have any files left. They gone. Fuck :mad:

I do have an option on re-installing windows on top, or simply formatting the partition, but it will lead to loss of all the programs, and it wold suck ass :(
I was able to copy some of the files to my other hd, so at least we wont loose those files (especially dj's Flash stuff), but I really hope that I can get Windows back without re-installing of all of the applications.

I can wait to get home from work, to work on this, but still have 7 fuckin hours to wait :( :(

Additionally, me and my friend tried to run Chkdsk /p on the drive, and after running for a while we got "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems" message. Kinda tells me that my HD might be fucked up, or on its way there. Just great :mad:

And fuckin RR still not working either, so I cant even use my wife's mac to get to net, to look for help.

Next week you will be able to buy a 120 gig Maxtor drive for about 40 bucks (@ Best Buy).

Sorry to hear about all your problems.

If I were you, I would reinstall windows. You don't even have to reformat the HDD, and so through this you will lose the contents of just my documents, and since you say you backed some stuff up, this might not be too much of a problem.
If that still doesn't sort it, THEN reformat and reinstall windows, and although you will have lost all your programs, you would have lost them anyway in the case of buying a new HDD, but saved $40.

i need a new bigger hard drive bad only have 2 20 gigs here

I will try few things when I get home, like trying to get old registry values from /repair directory, if ofcourse it exists. Plus I made couple of hd scan disks (especially one for WD drives), which I will run to see if drive is really fucked, or it still more of the window issue.

I know that I can just re-install windows (unless, if gets screwed up later in the re-installation process, which happens quite offten, or so I read :(), but again, I woul prefer to try and save as much stuff I have, without need to friggin re-install everything (of which more than half of stuff I dont even have disks for anymore, or have no idea where they are :(

If you're using XP, can't you repair Windows from the boot CD?

if you repair or reinstall windows you dont loose all the other things youve installed. that only hapens with a reformat.

pretty sure this means bad sectors. get a diagnostic utility from the maufacturers website and try to repair it first.

Well, First thing - I got registry files back, and even booted into XP, but it was incredibly slow, and system couldn't recognize the mouse.

I know that data is still there, and now I just need to get back, and copy as much as I can from the that drive to my new drive.

I also did run WD disk utilities, and this is where the bad news is - It pretty much screamed alarm to contact tech support, since apperantly, my dh is indeed got fucked. So it wouldnt matter much trying to re-install windows on it anyway.

Just a news I really wanted to hear. Fuck :( Now I need to shop for the new HD.

Ok, we shall see. At least my internet seems to work. Kinda.

Well..if you want to get a good harddrive then I recommend this one:

seagate 200GB

200 gigs for $109 is a damn good deal in my book. Plus it has 5 year warranty from Seagate and you can't beat that.

Don't buy some overpriced, rebate filled ripoff from places like BestRip, Circuit Shitty and CompUSSR. I mean really.. wait like 3 months for a rebate you probably will forget about by the time you get it.

That is a sure sign of hard drive failure. That and weird clicking noises coming from the hard drive. This happened to my IBM Thinkpad. It literally took 15 minutes to get into Windows. :(
