Halo the Movie?

"At Warner-Bros., we recently had a meeting with Ronald Shusett and Daniel Alter over doing the video-game adaptation for this upcoming movie they're producing called 2176. It turns out one of our senior execs here has been trying to ankle and move into film producing and approached Bungie back at E3 about the HALO movie rights.

The word from the company was that unless you got the writer and director of the original "Alien", everyone can go fish. So with the writer/producer of "Alien" sitting in (someone')s office, I guess he who shall remain nameless thought it was his time to strike.

Apparently Ridley Scott has seen the materials before. And subsequently passed on doing it. But, with "Halo 2" sales having been astronomical, Shusett and Alter's camp has been in-touch with Scott Free about it. Don't know if Ridley's budged..."

Well, I gotta hand it to Bungie, they know what they want, and wont compromise. Its good to see they dont want the rights for the movie fall into someone like Uwe Bolle or Paul W.S. Anderson's hands. They want it done right. Good for them. But I'd like to see it happen.

A Halo movie wouldn't be nearly as good as Alien because the source material is about action, and not thriller/suspense. I'm thinking that Ridley Scott see's this and that's probably why he's not willing to do it. Halo is an action game, and the story serves the purpose to move you from one piece of action to the other (sometimes while shooting things along the way as well). I don't think Bungie has realistic aspirations for the movie, but I still commend them for not willing to let the franchise be left with a black mark (aside from Halo 2... OH SNAP!).

All kidding aside, I think they made the right move.

Why would Sir Ridley Scott sully his good name with Halo?

I think if they incorporate the books, they can make a great movie. Nearly everyone who read the books likes them, so while the game story seems to be hit or miss with most, that would probably be in the best interest of Bungie and anyone else involved.

And the thought of Ridley Scott or James Cameron (while not mentioned, he'd almost definitely be next in line to ask, since Halo borrows so much from Aliens) directing a Halo movie could be the first truly great video game based movie. Hell, it would legitimize the field just based on the fact that such a well known and loved director is attatched to the project.

So, in contrast to MVS, IBTN.

Or, at least IWTBTN (I Want To Believe This News).

I was thinking something like Terminator 2. But I don't trust Cameron at all. GO PETER JACKSON! heh. Seriously, I think Pete could do a hellovajob.

I dunno, man, it's like someone a few pegs below Stanley Kubrick directing Resident Evil. I mean, come on. This is the reason there are P.T.Andersons in this world.

The story is deep and doesn't have a lot of symbollic meaning. It's a guy going around in green armor who is an uber-soldier. Sounds like the storyline of every single shitty action movie to date. I think Halo could be a good movie, but the style of Aliens would definitely be shit on a Halo. The Covenant is an army, not a wild beast that lurks in the shadows.

Still... good job for Bungie not letting the movie debut be shitty.

Starship Halo then.

That'd actually be a good idea, although all the Halo fans would hate it. But who cares about them?

But the Flood is more like the Aliens, and could definitely benefit by being treated as such.

Yes, Halo is a lot more about action than suspense, but the overall style and execution of a lot of Halo was taken straight from the Alien movies. It's rather obvious if you've seen either of the first two. As well as Alien, keep in mind Ridley Scott also did Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, Blade Runner and according to a scooper at AICN, was going to do Starship Troopers. So it's obvious that Bungie feels they can put their trust in him to deliver the best possible movie for them. NOT Paul W.S. Anderson (which I think you meant MVS, not PT Andrerson who did Boogie Nights and Punch-Drunk Love), and DEFINITELY NOT Uwe Boll.

But incorporating the books and fleshing out the story, under Joseph Staten and Eric Nylund's supervision, would do well for the movie.

If I couldn't get Ridley Scott or even James Cameron, I'd not give out the rights just like Bungie is doing, so I hope they stick to their guns.
