1) Clearly this is a proper response from a company that claims there is a current Crisis in Video Gaming.
2) So if the sport-game-purchasing-casual-gamers are the ones ruining the industry, what does that make the people who buy this?
MLB Slugfest proved that even in an arcade-type setting, you can't make baseball more "exciting" than it already is. It's just baseball.
I get a feeling this game will be like the classic "Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball" on the NES. The graphics were junk, but the ability to pick your teammates (schoolyard style), and each one having different abilities ... made the game horribly addicting to play.

It's being made by Namco. This marks their 10th collaberation with Nintendo (including Ridge Racer 64, Soul Calibur 2, the Tri-Force board, Pac-Man Vs, Donkey Konga 1-3, Ridge Racer DS & Star Fox Assault). Plus Nintendo Europe's been publishing their GC games recently... these two comapnies have gotten extremely close this generation, which is funny considering Namco was the first 3rd party to try and break from Nintendo (twice in a row actually).
Why can't they stop putting Mario in every general-genre game that they make?

Except that we haven't seen Nintendo produce new concepts since Wario Ware, and that was last year. I was initially excited about Nintendo farming out their franchises to other companies so that they could make new games because it should have brought a mixture of revamped and new Nintendo franchises. Instead, all Nintendo had to show for in terms of new franchises since 2001 was Pikmin on the Gamecube and Wario Ware for the Game Boy Advance. That's it! Nothing else. So much for "TEH NEW"!Quote:

The thing that's going to be a downer for me is they will use the EXACT SAME CHARACTERS found in Mario Golf AND Mario Tennis.
I mean, I don't mind the same core characters, but Mario has a cast of fucking hundreds that would be totally awesome and unique to play in a game like this.
I liked the enemies from Mario 2 and Super Mario World showing up in Mario Tennis, and I hope that even more of that type of thinking will follow into this title.

Doshin was a port of a N64DD game that came out in 1999, so you don't get that. Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and Custom Robo are old franchises that Nintendo finally got around to bringing here, so those don't count either. Seriously, I wonder how close I'll be when the game actually ships. Maybe we can replace one of those with say... a Shyguy.

Sure... I think a large part of it is due to development becoming so much more complicated though. In the NES days RD1 could have a 4-5 man team make a game in a few months, today a new Metroid or Wario Ware will take four times the staff three times as long. And that's for relatively cheap GBA development, console games are exponentially more resource hungry. Less risks are taken when so much more is at stake, console games can't be profitable by selling just a few thousand units these days.Quote:

jarrod, I went to gamerankings and did a search for the top 30 games made by Nindendo on the GC. Animal Crossing was 12th, So that means that atleast 18 games Nintendo mde on GC were inferrior to Animal Crossing, not to mention the ones that didn't make the top 30.
