Hello there!
Congrads on your sweet little national tube amp!I see in your picture that the amp still has a two wire power cord. That is dangerous and needs to be changed as soon as possible,or you risk a serious electric shock.
The noises you are describing can be any number of things. In any old tube amp there are areas of concern that need to be addressed. One,you will need to replace all the electrolytic capacitors because if they are at least 10 yrs old, they will be dried out and cause hum and noise problems. Two,you should have the solder joints checked and re-soldered to eliminate loose connections which can cause intermittent crackles and pops. Some times the tubes should be replaced as well.It really depends on how your amp sounds. If you have no experience with tube amps,I highly recommend you don't stick your fingers inside this amp!The voltages inside can KILL YOU! there can be about 380+volts DC inside even if the amp is off and the cord is not plugged in.Direct current through your heart will stop it,much like a crash cart can start it up again.
Get someone to look at it for you or get a good tube amp book and read up on it first. This little amp has potential to be one killer sounding gem!If it is serviced properly,it will sing for you!
Awesome buy!
This amp is very close to a fender vibro champ in design, and sounds similar, but in my opinion, better!Ask Eric Clapton! He used one for recording.
good luck!
