In case you missed it, Ocelot is The Boss' lost child with The Sorrow.
Yeah I know the whole Boss/The Sorrow deal, I was referring to MGS3 Snake though, not the more recent MGS1 & 2 Solid Snake. The Boss is older than MGS3 Snake but they don't make it clear how old he exactly was. Snake seemed more experienced than Ocelot in MGS3 so I think he may be older or maybe because he trained under The Boss he has better combat skills he seems that way.

Well in the MSX Metal Gear games, Kojima didn't really planned Snake and Big Boss to be father and son like it was revealed in Metal Gear Solid.
The original Metal Gear barely had any character development as it is and Big Boss' betrayal comes late during the game. Basically, he treats Snake like an idiot rookie, hoping that Snake will screw-up due to his lack of experience, only to be surprised at Snake's success after destroying Metal Gear.
Metal Gear 2 on the other hand, featured a slightly more complex storyline with bigger emphasis on character development. Big Boss is played more like a war monger here much like Liquid trying to convince Snake that without war, they're useless dummies. Other than that, Snake viewed Big Boss as nothing more than a bad dream that refused to go away. In contrast to Grey Fox, who actually viewed Big Boss as a sort of parent and was loyal enough to betray his country and join Zanzibar Land's mercenary force.
Play the older Metal Gear games whenever you have the chance (through emulation or otherwise). You won't regret it.
Ah thanks for the breakdown on the NES Metal gear games. The Metal Gear Solid games retcon the older stuff but in a way that could makes sense if all the pieces fit logically (barring some stuff in MGS2 that I still can't comprehend).

IIRC, Kojima wanted a new set of villains that had more political power in the series instead of mere terrorists, which is why he introduced the Illuminati-like Patriots in MGS2.
Hmm, I see. I'm not a big fan of the Patriots though, they seem like too intangible a threat for me to really care enough about them, all I know is that they are really good manipulators with all the events that have happened in the MGS games.
