Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

What do you guys think the chances are that KCEJ, or just Kojima alone maybe (didn't he make the MGS2 Trailer by himself?) are working on a new Snaker Eater Trailer for E3?

I'm sure KCEJ knows that the trailer has been leaked. Do you guys think they'll show the same trailer now that it's been leaked?

Personally, I think that the team is probably working around the clock trying to make something new for the show.
That sucks, cause it probably took them a while to make it.

I really should pop in that Document DVD again. I'm sure that'll answer many questions again.

E3's their money shot, to build hype before the harsh reality of mediocre game sets in, and apparently the leaked trailer will do that.

At the very least, we may see a better quality version, but I doubt they'd work on a totally new one in the ... 4 days until the convention starts. Unless the version which was leaked was labelled "leakable hype builder for super tactical espionage action mega game metal gear solid 3: snake eater." Love them crazy japanese titles. :chick:

I don't think we'll see a new trailer, but I'm pretty sure they'll have a link up to a medium resolution trailer on their Japanese site like they usually do once E3 begins.

Here's hoping Kojima actually gives some indication of the game's plot and what not at E3...

(couldn't this thread have been a part of the other MGS3 trailer thread?)

Actually, Lucas, the footage that was leaked is only a PORTION of the E3 trailer. There's supposed to be a part after that where Snake and a partner (Raiden? Campbell? Meryl?) are infiltrating a guerilla base together.

It also makes me curious as to whether or not the trailer purposely leaked by Konami to create advance hype for the game. Otherwise, why would they leave out a portion of the movie?

I don't understand why everybody's always hating on Raiden. Sure, the plot of MGS2 was crap but Raiden the character was actually pretty awesome -- shit, he was a child soldier running with the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka! And he has a fucking katana! IMO he's plenty badass.

sleeveboy, there are a couple of reasons why people sip on the Raiden Hatorade:

01. He does look kinda prissy next to Snake (by design, however).

02. The plot got really goofy when Raiden was the lead, while the game was pretty tight and cohesive when you were playing as Snake. I guess a commutative mind could say... hmm plot was good when Snake was in, plot sucked a camel's dick when Raiden was in... RAIDEN SUX0RZ!

03. Kojima kept it a secret. The rug got pulled from under a lot of fans who thought it was just gonna be Snake.

All of these if you ask me are pretty good reasons to not like Raiden, but like you I dont think he's a bad character.

Actually Im kinda glad that Kojima did it like this: I mean, everybody, EVERYBODY, including idiots like ECM, were saying that MGS2 was "gonna be more of the same as MGS + better graphics"... but in reality it was definitely a different experience. Oh well.

It's simple really. Everyone wanted to play Snake in MGS2, but they got Raiden instead. And thus he's the target of everyone's resentment. Not to mention he's a little bit too feminine (I thought he was a she when I first saw him in the opening intro). It's like Shinkawa was taking designing lessons from Ayami Kojima (no relation to Hideo).

But it WAS just like MGS1 with pretty graphics, just with a different protagonist. Even the plot doesn't try to hide it. I still liked it though.

I actually disagree. The game felt different to me. The addition of a usable first-person mode changed the dynamic of the game pretty fundamentally (and to me that was a radical improvement). Add to that some new moves and shit and you get a gameplay experience that is pretty different and much much better than the first one. But that's just me.

I agree with diffusionx... MGS2 gameplay-wise pretty easily eclipsed the original. I think the game was lacking story and character wise when compared to the first though... Solidus and Dead Cell just don't compare to Liquid and Foxhound if you ask me. Snake as a supporting character didn't help things much either.

The characters and story of Twin Snakes is more than enough to get me excited, and any improvements to the gameplay and graphics are of course welcome.

I've been thinking about MGS2 a lot lately. Dissapoiting, yes, but still fucking great. its been awhile since i beat it, i need to go through it agian.

And there better be more footage at E3. That was more of a teaser than a trailer.

If it's just me or is Snake's Revenge is influencing the new MGS games alot. Granted, SR is a non-canonity (moreso than Ghost Babel), but the Tanker Chapter in Sons of Liberty seems to be too similar to a part in SR in which Snake has to destroy a ship full of mass-produced Metal Gears. And Solidus' suit is similar to Big Boss' cyborg body in Snake's Revenge too. IN SR, most of the game consisted of rendezvousing with your two partners to get pass certain obstacles and now Snake Eater will have a coop mode.

That certainly isn't just you. The gameplay was much tighter in the second go around.

As for Raiden, I actually liked the guy. It was his supporting cast that I hated. I thought every boss fight (though I did sort of enjoy the final one) was kind of lame, and man did the character designs suck, IMO.

Playing as Raiden though...it was such shock that it worked for me. I loved that Hideo went out of his way to hide this from everyone. Good show.

Raiden was a good, strong character. He was everything and did everything Snake couldn't. He was open, emotional, and caring. Snake achieves his mission with no heart, but much rather some badass style. So having Raiden as a partner and NOT the main character is a great idea because he's a solid character himself.

I hope he's in it. Also, both guys have weird 80's hairstyles.

Also, since MGS 2 is the second 3D metal gear (well... besides the specials), the game is a no brainer to have better gameplay. But nothing from the first should be considered a mainstay, since it's only had one go around, right? Of course, Snake has been around beforehand.

i liked part 2. i also think that part 2 had much more solid gameplay in every way. gameplay wise, the game is just too much better. not to say that there's anything wrong with MGS, but part is just greatly improved gameplay wise.

also, i think that although he wasn't the most played, Snake was still the main character in MGS2.

and as far as stories go, i like them both. they're not anything special, but they go really well with the games.

This is weird hearing all the MGS2 praise, the way I remember it everyone was going on about how horrible it was. Then again, maybe that was because of the whole Zidane thing.

Yeah, seriously. I always found it to be a fantastic game with a weird-ass story, but wholly enjoyable non-the-less.

The ability to play MGS1 (which had a better story) with MGS2's gameplay (which far out-stripped the first one's) is just heaven.

all i ask for is that they make this feel like Rambo II as much as possible. im talking mud man, arrows with explosive tips, and most of all, that Snakes love interest get shot down with an AK, and shot down really well at that. and just as random please. now that's some good shit.

I love forest settings in games and that looks above anything else I have seen with the setting. The butterfly is a nice touch as well.

the quality of that new trailer is ass, but it is worth watching. it shows some really cool shit, and you see some shit about some new kind of Melee in the game, and eventually they show it at the end of the trailer. some guy attacks Snake with a knife, and he disarms him, throws him on the floor, and stabs him in the neck. or just shoots him in the head. they showed a few different examples.

i wonder if the game is gonna have some kind of fighting system. cause the shit done looks to have some depth.

They're going total 007 on this one apparently... as some lady croons about the "Snake Eater" with a brassy song backing her up. I think it's pretty cool but c'mon, that's funny stuff.

Oh yea, and can anyone enlighten me (Johnny Undaunted perhaps?) as to who this Kyle Cooper person is that's doing the opening title? I've seen the name in both trailers and on the website, so it's obviously a big deal. Why should we care?

Kyle Cooper is a Hollywood director who specializes special effects. He and his company (Imaginary Forces) did credit sequences for various films such as Seven, Daredevil, Eraser, Spawn and Dead Presidents among others. They also did those GBP ads on TV too.

I'm quite interested in seeing the villans in this game. The various enemy boss designs on MGS1 and MGS2 have been my favorite parts of those games and this games setting could provide so very interesting characters I think.

Looks very.... PS2-ey. This game would look so damn amazing on the Xbox... just thinking about it nearly makes me cry.

Jeez, developers should just stop making games for that crap PS2. As the systems age the Xbox games are looking better while PS2 games are looking way worse. This is terrible. Too bad its killing the 'box in sales.

You know what makes me cry? Thinking about trying to play a Metal Gear game with the Xbox controller again. You need four shoulder buttons... analog triggers are no substitute.

So, while I'm sure with a lot of work they could make a better looking game on Xbox, I'm quite happy this game is on the PS2. I personally think it looks pretty fantastic (in motion), PS2 or not.

And judging from those shots, which are all from the ECTS movie a couple weeks ago, that we'll probably get to see a higher-quality version of that trailer once TGS formally starts soon. Which is fine by me... the shaky cam stuff wasn't cutting it.

They needed to put a lot of work into the PS2 version just to get it to look like that. Because the PS2 is horse manure. Meanwhile look at what UBi Soft is whipping up with Rainbow Six on Xbox. It wouldnt take nearly as much work to get a game looking much better than that on Xbox. But I digress.

Look at how well MGS2: Substance turned out on Xbox if you think it's that easy for them to get it looking good on that system. Slowdown galore. KCEJ is highly experienced with the PS2 hardware, and between MGS2 and ZOE: The 2nd Runner, they've created some of the best looking games the system has to offer... why throw all that programming knowledge out the window just to start over again, on another system (albeit a more powerful system)? And of course you have the whole installed base of PS2 users versus Xbox users... it makes more sense fiscally to release it on the PS2. Nor do you alienate your fans if you release a sequel on the same system.

See... there's a difference there. ZOE2 had drops in framerate. The action was more or less still going at the same speed. Certainly not good, but acceptable... we all know some of the best games around suffer from drops in frame rate (I always like to cite Radiant Silvergun on this board as an example).

MGS2: Substance, on the Xbox suffered from something different... actual CPU slowdown. When you were out in the rain, the whole game just ran about 1/2 speed... it actually affects the gameplay a whole lot more, and (to me anyway) is far more annoying.

And plenty of fans of Metal Gear Solid since the PSX days would probably be pretty pissed off if Konami pulled a Capcom and jumped ship like Mikami did with Resident Evil. Granted, for people who have the major systems, this is usually a great thing. But a larger majority of people were probably pissed off that they couldn't play their beloved Resident Evil on their PS2 anymore (just look at the sales numbers of the GC RE releases for something close to proof of that). Other than the whole Dual Shock 2 thing, I agree that MGS would be better served on an Xbox or a Gamecube.

To anyone expecting a "new" TGS trailer for this, don't. It's the same one they were showing 2 weeks ago at ECTS.

Tomorrow night (the 27th, Japanese time), Konami's site will have an actual decent copy of the trailer to download. Something to look forward to I suppose.

But this one looks like it won't. I'm actually excited over a new Metal Gear game, but that's just because the GBC game helped heal the wounds MGS2 left.

Well, Let say it this way: Some of MGS2 sucked. Opening with Snake, and later Boss battles were awesome, including great Snake/Raiden back to back fight against all enemies sequence. And fight against those Rays. Its just the story went completely nuts and that was spoiled the game.

im with Despair on that one.

MGS2 was awesome. it improved the gameplay sooooo fuckin much it's not even funny. my only complaint with the game is how retarded the story got towards the end, and that the characters in the game weren't as cool as MGS.
thank fully Twin Snakes is gonna give a great combination of pretty much the best things from the first 2 games in the Solid series.

i'd imagine that Snake Eater is going to improve the gameplay as much as MGS2 did to 1. this game is gonna be all kinds of badass.

when the slowdown was brought up with the xbox rev, doesnt anyone remember that ps2 to xbox ports are really hard. i forget what they did different to get it to look good on the ps2 but to get it running better on the xbox they said they had to pretty much rewrite the entire engine and since that would have taken a lot longer they said fuck it and brought out the semi poor port that they did. thats why the slowdown was there. id kill to see what it would have looked like beginning and being optomized for the box in the first place.

You would have thought that with all the hype about Metal Gear Solid X even before the Xbox launched they would have put a little more effort into the port. The only thing that made it special in the end was the fact that the Xbox got Substance a few months ahead of time (and with less features, woo).

And I agree with what was said about 2. Much improved gameplay, Tanker portion was great, pretty cool end, and a clusterfuck of a story. Foxhound > Dead Cell by a lot too.

As awesome as the gameplay and new concepts are looking for three, I want to know a lot more about the game's story. Back to basics is well and good, but I'd like to hear something... is Big Boss playing the role of a good guy, or is he "evil" by that point already? Guess it'll be a while before Kojima drops a trailer with some plot in it.

yeah, but Kojima did say that we can expect to have a ton of characters and the usual stuff.

it's cool that he managed to take the series into a new direction like he wanted to, yet at the same time, completely expand on what was already there. i was realy shocked to see how the game had turned out. although i loved everything about it.

when he first said that he wanted to take the series into a new direction, i was expecting really new things cause i figured he was really burned out on the whole stealth game thing, and go ape shit. maybe you know um...throw some RPG elements in there, i dunno. who knows what the dude would've done.

Other than the survival elements which remain a bit iffy ("Snake needs food, badly!"), I must agree. All the changes Kojima has shown us, from a greater sense of freedom in the gameplay, to the back to the basics plot, make me smile. I hope his next big shocker is that he'll say yes to directing another MG in the future.

poor guy, he's made it obvious that he wants to move on to new things, let him do so. it must really suck to have to work on the same series over and over again.

Bah... I'm off the mindset that it can't suck at all to make games for a living. Especially great games. If he were to say "I might direct another MG again," that'd be enough for me. I just hate the finality some developers like to put forth these days (Sonic Team saying "We will not make any more Phantasy Star Online" for example). Plus, the thought of someone else helming a new MG is both scary and slightly exciting.

The only difference between the two videos, is that the Japanese one has subtitles that add about 800k onto the filesize. Otherwise, they're exactly the same.

That trailer is really cool, and the gameplay footage is amazing; those jungle environments are so cool, I can't wait to see just how open they are. When snake was in that cave, the graphics were kinda "eh", but overall very cool.

I hope that snake eater song was a joke, also. The lady was singing about eating a tree frog at one point :\ And I really hope the actual game isn't themed more like James Bond like the trailer, I think Metal Gear is unique enough, the Bond crap just seems kind of cliche to me.

I've only played MGS for PS1 which I loved (and small bits of MGS2 at friend's house), so without any bad MGS2 taste I look forward to seeing how MGS3 compares assuming it's playable when I go back to E3 in May. :D

You know there will be... we have to start getting the requisite plot trailers, probably at E3 next year I'm guessing. Then a couple more about this time next year... and then... we all get to enjoy the game ourselves.

Metal Gear Central's forum has just leaked new in-game screenshots of MGS3 (apparently from Konami themselves) which shows how the camouflage system in the game works. Why? With all the stuff Twin Snakes has, it STILL the same damn game that we all played 5 years ago ! Where Snake Eater is NEW adventure along with NEW gameplay elements.

Although I'd agree, at this point I'm more excited for Twin Snakes... but I know my excitment level is nothing compared to what it'll be near the release of MGS3. If for nothing else I just can't wait to experience the new story, not to mention that the gameplay will be radically different from every other MGS title so far.
