Did any of you killed Raikov after capturing him? You'll see him streaking when you fight The Sorrow.
I didn't even think of killing Raikov, after I had accidentaly slit his throat 5 times before going to the locker room, I was tired of killing him.

just finished this yesterday and i cant wait to play it again , the story is really epic and the most balanced of the three games its plain awesome , they gameplay retains its simplicity but great fun and the fact that it can be approached from many different perspectives
10/10 from me and beats even gta
I am loving this game! This is, hands down, the best game in the series. Ocelot is the fucking man, he is my favorite character. I missed the radar at first, but once you get used to actually using the first person mode to look around you don't need it anymore. Here is more stuff I like so far:
Snake is straight-up awesome in this one. He doesn't whine about anything and he kicks all kinds of ass. The graphics are great for PS2. Too bad there is no progressive scan or widescreen. The cutscenes are well directed, kinda like a mix between Twin Snakes' over the top ones and the first Metal Gear Solid. Boss fights are awesome, I really liked The End and The Sorrow. That torture scene was fucking brutal, poor Snake! The Snake's Nightmare thing was cool too--I wonder if Kojima has a new game in the works? I heard that little demo is based off of the Nanobreaker engine.
Things I don't like so far:
-Lip movements kinda suck
-Radio transmissions are choppy and take time to load
-Some parts of the game looked kinda shimmery
-Slowdown
-The Boss has a horrible outfit :doubt:
Me:
Humans killed: 303.
I'm so un-sneaky, it's pretty sad.
Ok so what is the deal with the Sorrow? what do i gotta do?
Walk down the river past all the ghosts. Once you get to the end and drop dead, take the revival pill to come back to life.Quote:

Easiest way I found for The Boss:
Mash buttons when she grabs you, there is a command that will get you out of her QCC, but I don't know what it is. I mash and get out 50% of the time, then hit her 3 times, x2, then shotgun her on the floor.
If her QCC is successful, jump up (you might take 1 shot from the Patriot), then run in a circle and punch her 3 times, x2.
I put on the Oyama and Snow camo, then dive away.
I crawl a bit, then wait.
Crouch, with Thermals and listen/look for her.
She's far away, give her 2 SVD's to the head, or an RPG to the floor next to her if I'm feeling lucky.
She'll then run at me for QCC. I unequip the weapon (or she'll gank it), then start the process over again.
Volgin was much tougher than The Boss was and once I did the above, I beat her after taking only 1 hit.
Beat the game this morning, it was amazing. I'm feeling the urge to go pick up Twin Snakes now and give that a run-through.
As the series progresses I'm getting into it more and more. #1 I could hardly stand, 2 I played through and thought it was pretty fun and 3 I thought was amazing. I imagine 4 is lined up to hit when PS3 comes out, right?
Finished it the other day. Best game of the series.
Few thoughts on the last part of the game:
The climax of this game just keeps going! You think its over, but its not, then you think its over again, but its not. Then you REALLY think its over, but not.
It gets so amazingly intense when Volgin hops in the Shagohod. When its chasing Snake and Eva when they are on the motorcycle was one of the coolest (if not THE coolest) part of the series. So intense.
The fight with the Shagohod in the field was so sweet too. The music in that cut scene and the way it plays out is so good. My favorite cut scene of the game. Hideo Kojima REALLY needs to direct a movie. He is so good at what he does.
The fight with the Boss was tough. It really forces you to use all the skills that you picked up during the game. And while it can get frusterating at first, once you get it down, its a great fight.
The ending itself was really bittersweet, and goes to show you that Big Boss was not really a bad guy in the first Metal Gear. He got dicked around so much by the Government(s) and politics, and eventually fought back.
One thing I really liked was how they played it straight for the whole game. Not once did things get confusing. Snake, here, gets his ass kicked constantly. And while he was a bad ass for some parts, they played him as a real person. He wasnt about doing the impossible acrobatics of Solid Snake in MGS: The Twin Snakes. And that was really nice, seeing a "human" character.
If this was the end of the series (I know its not going to be), I'd be totally happy. What a way to go out. I would love for them to remake Metal Gear, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, using what we know now.
But none the less, as good as Halo 2 and GTA: SA was, this is my personal favorite game of the year. It just does so much right, and packs an emotional punch I didn't get from the others. Maybe I liked it so much because with all the GTA and Halo 2 hype, this game fell off the radar, and how much of a let down MGS 2 was, I really didnt expect such a great experience. Either way, I loved it.
Well, thanks to the tip about The Sorrow I went on and finished the game today. Boss fight had to be by far the most beautiful stage I've ever fought in, and more than afew of em were in this game. But ignoring the beauty, it was a pain in the ass trying to find her in that field of white. Even in IR it was a pain, as the flowers all had head blumes. I think I tried that last stage 50 times before I finally worked out the way to killing her, and even then I got lucky and blocked her cqc technique then blasted her with the chain gun.
Launch +2 years at least, I would imagine.Quote:

from what I know it happens after the torture scene when Snake is in the cell. Save there and then reload to get the Nightmare. I'm not 100% though, since I forgot to do it myself.
I figured it out, you call Para-Medic and she tells you a Dracula story. Then you save.
Wowow! I picked up Twin Snakes, and it feels downright _primitive_ after playing MGS3.
As much as they nerded out on CQC in 3 (seriously, do you have to mention it every three radio calls guys), it really did add to the game. The food/cure system also felt tacked on, but now Rations feel strangely artificial. Amusing :)
That and some of the finer control aspects seem to be lost, possibly due to the GC pad, though it's quite possible I'm just missing them. Is there any way to instantly de-equip a weapon/item (tapping the trigger didn't seem to work), and is there any way to aim a gun and NOT fire? The only method I could find was releasing first person, then holding the trigger and equipping nothing. A bit slow...
Have to play this a bit more. Am I losing my mind, or did they play with the music and voices?
Aiming a gun and not firing in MGS3 is releasing the shoot button slowly.
No, I'm talking about Twin Snakes
incidently, anyone notice the Time Paradox death transition in MGS3? Still wondering what that's about
That's what it is in MGS3, perhaps it's the same or listed in the manual.
Its a time paradox because If Snake, who goes on to become Big Boss dies, then there is no Solid Snake or whatever else. You also get this if you mess up the continuity by shooting Ocelot when he is unconscious on the ground.Quote:

This game is the best PS2 game I have played all year.
The part when you are riding around in the motorcycle in the side cars was fucking great. The way Snake yells when he fires that big machine gun is cool. The area you fight the Boss is one of the coolest places I have ever seen in a video game. She is still currently kicking my ass though.
Well, when you finish the game you will find out. The easy answer is that Snake would never finish his mission if not for her and would have failed early on.Quote:

I finally beat the game. The ending was pretty cool:
I thought it was neat how the petals on the flowers turned from white to red when The Boss died. Everything was tied up very nicely.
Satsuki can have Itagaki, Kojima is my man now. This game was so awesome!

yep, tapping a trigger is the way to do it. check your settings in options too. there is a de-equip option and a revert to last equipped option. it works though. just like normal from what i remember. check your manual if you can figure it out (its all in there)
hold down the Y button. i think that it. (again, check manual)Quote:

yep. they changed some music and voices slightly. not sure which ones though. havent played the original in a long time.Quote:

Meh. The original was way better in my opinion. Not that Twin Snakes was a bad game mind you, but Silicon Knights did a poor job in implementing gameplay features from MGS2 into the level designs and boss battles of the original game. Not to mention the game is horribly unbalanced (why is the M9 much easier to find in Extreme than Hard). The redone voiceovers also left much to be desired, despite the higher paychecks the actors were given.Quote:

Fury fight was also cool, with great fire fx. He was more annoying than hard, but at the end, dj ended up just hiding in the shadows, and sniping him with both tranq rifle and gun.
You can D/L some of the songs from Snake Eater here. That includes the single.
I finally finished it. I played it for almost 6 hours straight this afternoon. I have to say I like it a lot more than MGS 2. Final boss fight had an AWESOME setting. Loved that. The fight itself though... I liked the ending too. Best PS2 game this year IMO. Yup, better than GTA SA IMO.
now if I could get an XBOX version with widesceen and Progressive scan. :D
MGS3=one of the best games this year.
In Granin's office there's a photgraph with someone in it that looks like Otacon. I'm thinking it's his dad. Anybody else see this?
Scourge:
It is Otacon's dad. He's the 'friend in the U.S.' that Granin sent the Metal Gear schematics to.
IGN posted an interview with Hideo Kojima…once again, despite what he previously said, it looks like he's going to be involved in MGS4.
He also mentioned that he might make a change to the camera system in the next game, possibly not doing the top-down view anymore.Quote:
IGN: What kind of role will you have in the next Metal Gear game?
Kojima: (laughs) There is no actual team that is working on MGS4 right now, but now that we've pretty much finished up MGS3 and if there are a lot of fans who want a MGS4 there will be one. There's planning going on in my head, but there is no staff working on it.
Just finished the game for the first time a few days ago, blown away like most of you guys here. I think I'm gonna play the other 4 games in the series again in choronological order now because it sheds a lot of light or changes your perspective on a lot of things in the rest of the series. In fact, even the whole thing with The Patriots in MGS2 is almost believable now.
In the end though, even though the game is badass it's still incredibly tragic if you think about it. Boss' story as well as what Big Boss ends up doing because of it...kinda sad and all perpetrated by the government. Wonder if we will ever get a game that takes place between MGS3 and MG.
Not too sure... the review in GMR states that this is the last game in Solid games, and that it was meant to be a trilogy.Quote:

Did you read the entire strategy or is this a page flip moment?
Konami already said there will be an MGS4, and that was somewhat recently; as in after MGS3 was released. Hideo will be either directing or producing.
If GMR said otherwise, then they are obviously talking out of their collective asses or were informed after they had gone to press. That's the problem with print media, it's always a little behind.
They have the two page review for the game, with the usual screenshots, basic info, stuff like that.Quote:

Wait. Do you mean the character The End, or the final fight at the end of the game? Your use of Him is confusing me.
Regardless, if you didn't want to see those types of things, it would probably be in your best interest to not read a review of the game or, at the least, try to not read the entire section of details on a fight.
The fight with The End takes place half way through the game. He is not the final boss.Quote:

"Wrong foot," indeed.
Why is it one of the "three most important console games ever made?"
Humor me. I've been out of the loop for a while.
And what the living Hell are the other two?
Just beat it about 10 minutes ago. not only is it the game of the year (by a wide margin), but maybe my favorite game in the last 5 years. I knew that with the technology developers have at their disposal these days, it was only a matter of time before someone made a videogame experience this good. My faith in interactive entertainment has been restored.
everything about this game just oozes perfection. for most of the game i was a little dissapointed with the plot, but the final hour changed all that. And there is so much content to the game that i haven't yet experienced.
It's just one of those gaming litmus tests.Quote:

Kinopio, you are correct.
How betrayed did you feel when you found the truth out about Boss? Watching Snake walk out of that room, turning his back on all of his good for nothing "comrades," and shirking the Pres was phenominal. Words can't describe the feelings I felt.
So the top three most important contributions to all of video-gamedom are, seemingly, decided by the arbitration of a single man . . . you. I'd laugh if I didn't already feel sorry for the sharp nose-dive this single line just took this conversation.Quote:

TIME PARADOX
Just finished MGS3, great game. I'd say why and list the dozens of cool parts in the game, but everything I loved in the game was said and done in the last 3 pages of the thread.
I fricking love this game since it actually took alot more care and time explaining what the hells going on in the MGS universe instead of just throwing political trash at me every two seconds like in MGS2. I dig the series even more now that I have a perfectly clear idea of whose who and why everyone's double crossing each other.
n00b question - Wasn't there an MGS fansite linked somwhere in this massive thread that had tons of info and stuff on all of the MG games? I'm expecting to get this game soon, and this site has some really great stuff that could hype me up more about it if I can find it.
Try here.
You can also learn about the older MSX Metal Gear games from the following sites:
Fan-Translation of Metal Gear 2.
Fan-Retranslation of Metal Gear 1 with proper manual.
I just got a Doberman rank on Normal. Now try my luck on Hard and Extreme.
g0zen, that was the site, I think, thanks.
You know, I never got that gator cammo. Where is it? Do I make it out of random bits and pieces, or is it found the old fashioned way?
I played this on Saturday - at least, the first fifteen minutes of it or so until I couldn't stand to play it anymore. I'm guessing it has to get better after that point, because I was bored to tears. (And this comes from someone who even greatly enjoyed MGS2.)
Part of the problem is the stupid MGS camera. Not being able to see what's ten feet in front of you when you had a scanner that showed enemies in your area wasn't so bad. Have that same overhead camera with no more scanner, and things suck real quick. I like the lack of the scanner, but for god's sake, fix the camera then to something more like Splinter Cell or something so I can see what's going on around me.
Kojima removed the camera so you would use the perspective of Snake more to sneak around, having a high and wide camera would just be like an analogue of the radar.
I had the same experience - got extremely frustrated at first, but after going back a few times you start to get into it. Keep at it, you'll get the hang of it.Quote:

No, only when in intrusion mode (i.e. in crawl spaces or when crawling through bushes).Quote:

Nope, you can't move in 1st person.
I can see why the radar thing would bug, but if you could move in 1st person, it would be just another generic FPS and no one would take the time to sneak. Camera sucks at times, and could have been improved, but could have been worse as well.
