Sprint & Nextel Announce Merger

Well, shut my mouth wide open.
Does this mean Nextel customers will have to get new phones? I do believe their walkies both run on different, incompatible networks.

Soon we will have one wireless phone company. Like MA Bell, or whatever it was called back in the day.

Though, Verizon's been said to be interested in Sprint themselves.

No, we're just one step closer.

Verizon almost bought Sprint, but elected not to when Sprint bought Nextel. If Verizon had acted, we would be down to Verizon/Sprint, Cingular/AT&T and Nextel at a distant third. As it is now, Sprint might fail in incorperating Nextel into their operation, which would hurt their expenses and put a drain on the company. This would ultimately lead to Verizon buying Sprint/Nextel.

You mean the FCC? They're too busy responding to 9 complaints about the effing Olympics and handing out fines to Howard Stern to bother with monopolies.

it was bell atlantic and gte. my parents worked at gte before the merger and said things have gone downhill since the merger. so does this mean the NASCAR Nextel Cup is now the Sprint Cup?

Yep. They are comprised of the former Bell Atlantic, Airtouch and GTE combined.

Let's see, Sprint=Low rent, bad credit customer base. Nextel=Business Users.

Now THATS a merger. :wtf:

It gets even more interesting if you look deeper.

Nextel and Sprint use totaly incompatable technologies, so one customer base will need to be migrated to the new system.

I can get even more techy with how Nextel has to give back 1/4 of its spectrum due to technical issues, and the problems that come up with that, but I wont bore ya guys. :)
