A look back at some older, obscure, or passed over next gen games
So.. I'm broke right now, and I sold a great deal of my shitty titles back to Gamestop. However, I kept some of the ones that looked like they had a good deal of promise. Hopefully someone else will see this thread, and give some of these games a shot, as they are all dirt cheap by now.
Chaos Legion - PS 2
A decent game, surpringsly. Plays alot like Devil May Cry without the style, however your combat moves grow with the more Legions you get. Sieg can summon legions to help him do battle with him, and it's not uncommon for you to be surrounded by 20 enemies at once.
A short game, only 13 stages, but you unlock extra stuff such as new characters, hard, and super hard mode. Normal mode is already plenty difficult, can't imagine what super hard is like 0_0
It's got an ok story, and the music is pretty good. The graphics hold up just fine, except for the overuse of fog. No slowdown, either.
This game dosen't break new ground, but it's good at what it does. If you're interested in an action game that's cheap and you see it around, you might as well give it a shot.
Manhunt - PS 2 / Xbox
Still on level 5 on this one... it's a gory, no holds barred stealth game. It features a twisted story, plenty of violence, and some definite nerve wracking. Hiding in the shadows, and a hunter is right in front of you, taunting you and yelling at you but can't see you, it is unsettling.
However, by level 5, the game is growing a but repetitous. Knock on the wall, wait for enemy to show up, wait for him to turn around, and then choke / gut / bludgeon him to death. The nail gun really makes the action pick up though, and MrWhiteFolks has told me the game takes a change of pace and gets really good halfway through, when they introduce all the guns in the game, and guys with flashlights (so hiding in the dark won't work, I guess).
So far it's ok, but I feel it will only really cater to a small group of people. Most people will just pass it up for MGS 3, and I really can't say I blame them.
Downhill Domination - PS2
A bike racing game brought to you by Incog Studios, the same people who brought us Twisted Metal: Black. The premise is, you're on a bike, racing against other people, descending down a mountain. Sounds simple, but the stages and sense of speed are where this game really shines.
Lots of shortcuts per level, lots of varied and interesting levels, and lots of gameplay options. I picked it up for 10 bucks, and it's definately something I could see myself playing every once in awhile.
Lackluster soundtrack, decent graphics, and not enough levels really hold this game back. But where is there is golden, definately worth checking out.
So that's just three out of however many... might as well open this thread up to everyone to list games they enjoyed, that seem to have been quickly forgotten by everyone. Would help if they were cheap too, for a cheap / quick fix.
Just throw the name, the system, and description, and you're good to go.
