Good advice for college students
In 2 to 3 weeks many of us will be going back to college. Some may be going for the very first time, if they took an extended summer vacation after highschool.
To make things easier on us all I thought I would make a thread where people could give advice on college related things.
To start things off, first time students,.....grow the fuck up.
It may not be this semester, or the next, but eventually you are going to have to deal with a class that completely bust your balls. For whatever reason, you just can seem to pass.
Instead of bitching like a baby, grow up, and act. Your options are;
A) Drop the class. For many A/B students in highschool, this can be hard to do. But sometimes it is the only answer. In college there are teachers who have what people like to call "Tenure" What this means for you is they can basically do anything short of shitting on your face in class.
These bitter assholes are pretty much unpassable, or would require you to take valuable study time away from your other classes. Time that could be used to make good grades in those other classes. At this point is probably better to drop the class. Getting an A or a B in one class is not worth ruining your GPA or other wise driving yourself nuts.
However, dropping classes is not to be taken lightly. Only drop a class if you feel it will help you win the over all war that is college, not because you are a lazy pussy who wants to play halo 2 instead of doing your advance algebra 2 homework.
B) Buckle down and do whatever it takes to pass the class. Forget all those thoughts of how you are paying the teacher to teach you. You can change schools later if you don't like the teachers your school has provided you, but now is time to get your A/B in underwater basket weaving.
Things you can do on your own.
Go to the teacher on a off period and ask questions
Get in study groups and make friends with other people in the class
Quit playing video games and posting here. Spend your time teaching yourself.
If the material is to hard for you, invest in study aid books. Most college books are written by teachers, for teachers. This being the case, a student can get lost trying to learn with just the text book. Amazon.com is a great place to look for books on a subject you are having trouble with. Make sure to read the reviews of the books. If you are not sure, go to a local bookstore and skim the book to see if it has what you need.
