X Y Z L R and thumb/c sticks?
They might be able to pull it off if they design the damn thing right (read: ergonomical); but as for lacking the d-pad and buttons A and B, I'm personally not really phased by it at all. Very seldom in this day in age do people use directional pads in games anyway so that's no big loss, and I'm sure N's got a button labelling setup up its sleeve if it ditches the lettering system.
If Nintendo are going to make a controller that solely uses a touch screen or motion sensor, they might aswell liquidate now and sell their daughters off to prostitution.
Ports will suck even more on the Revolution's controller than they already do on the GC controller.Quote:

Someone else (or nintendo themselves) comes along and puts out custom controllers that work better with 2D games and you have a winning combination. Just put out the first game to use an alternate controller with a free controller or everyone will complain about spending $15 extra.
I have always been a fan of using specific controller for different styles of games so I am looking to this with open arms. I also agree with Astroblue though about the touch screen and motion sensor crap. Mabey wait one or two more generations before dropping that bomb on us.
Agreed.Quote:

Oh and judging from this generation's games, the dpad acts as a hotkey for most games (giving out commands or whatever)
I don't care if its a mood ring that responds to your emo mood swings .... just make it wireless.
(from someone who has wasted too much money on cord extensions in his lifetime)
I expressed my opinion at got-next in the following way....
It will look like this:
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Really shouldn't be too bad though. Imaging that for fighting games! You could swing at the different "control knobs" and a pressure sensitive switch will determing how hard your attack is.
Dance and rythem games should be awesome. In fact, it looks to me like the controller was designed for them! Maybe it will come pre-packed with the next Donkey Konga game? Yes! </Napolean Dynamite>
However, platformers might be a little hard to play.
Fans of driving games will have to purchase the optional wheel module. Leave it to Nintendo to screw ya like that.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
All kidding aside, I think Nintendo's main problem is they keep trying to re-invent the wheel every generation. I'm all for innovation, and it's Nintendo we have to thank for the D-Pad and analog console controllers, but man the times have changed a LOT since then.
They need to get over themselves and look forward. However they need to look forward within the realm of reality. And part of that reality is they need to stop with the suck controller designs. INNOVATIVE they are not.
Looks like they're still trying to keep themselves unique, and keep the console first-party centric. Don't know how well such a controller will serve them, though.
I'm sure the new controller design will be great for what ever games Nintendo makes, but few third parties will take advantage of it and most of the gaming public will probably turn their heads. I'll be looking forward to seeing what they do, though.
Here's a thought. Let's assume that Nintendo does something truly unique that alters the way games are played on their system. That would lead to exclusives by definition. There would be no way to port them.
Next, let's make the logical assumption that Sony has the most powerful hardware this time around. I would argue that this is almost a certainty anyway. Sony would then have the most "normal" exclusives and the best looking multiplatform titles.
Where does Microsoft fit in? They are trying to do what Sony is doing, but they don' do it as well. They have no innovation, as I will be shocked if the PS3 doesn't have an HDD and an online service. They will be out first, so maybe the Xenon is the second coming of the Dreamcast, except without the offering something new part.
If nothing else, xbox 2 is going to offer up something innovative - cross platform gaming with the pc via xna sdks and whatnot. I guess all 3 of them have something to bring to the table this time around. Should be interesting to see how/if this plays in May.
So if you own a PC, the Xbox 2 is useless. I am hoping that I am missing something big, because I don't like not having all of the current sytems, but it doesn't look good.
I wouldn't name your console after the gimmick. <sigh> I feel like I'm waiting in line to see the 8 foot talking gorilla spider at the sideshow. You hope it'll be real and cool but it turns out to really be just lame. You don't know why you hope.
I'm pretty sure "Revolution" is just the code name for the console; Just like Dolphin was Gamecube and Project Reality was Nintendo 64 (It still should've been called "Ultra 64" :P).Quote:

The controller will be a Mario face with analog nose and pressure-sensitive mustache.
The console will be renamed "the Mario Revolution".
Announced games include Mario Zelda, Mario F-Zero, and Mario Mario 256 .
In fact, Nintendo will change their company name to Mario.
...So, in summation, look forward to Mario Mario's new adventures in Mario's Mario Mario 256, only on the Mario Mario Revolution.
I must say i can hardly contain myself for the next round of systems. Granted i am sure i am not the only one hard pressed to make room for them. :link:

You're misreading. I think Nintendo will get some good exclusives out of this potential strategy, but I never said it would be financially viable. I think the next generation will put Sony farther ahead rather than anyone else doing well.Quote:

How do we measure that? Market share? They have no shot at breaking 30% of hardware sales.Quote:

However they will still lose. There is a huge bias against nintendo and the heatred against the company will force them out of the hardware race.
So you mean, for instance, if the PS3 has 50%, and the Xenon has 39%, you lose?Quote:

He's right...a bit. Good software DOES eventually mean hardware sales, if it is marketed and publicized properly. Nintendo has quite a stigma it needs to rid itself of to have its good games win over new buyers, however. It would also have to appeal to the mature gamers and have some type of internet play to seriously compete against the PS3/Xbox. Mario, it's obvious, is not going to save it. Nor do I WANT Mario to save it.
It's going to have to reverse the process that began with the N64...it's going to need awesome hardware, internet capability, and most importantly, awesome third-party support the likes of which we haven't seen since the SNES if they're going to win back a significant market share.
They could likely survive on connectivity money and pokemon-like gimmicks, but that's not the way to smashing success, and it's a poor business model.
They're capable, but it would be a long, hard journey to get back to where they were, and frankly I don't think they have leadership capable of bringing them down that road. Teh Sad Panda is me.
Basically, shit like this has to stop, and shit like this needs to continue, along with great third party support. They need to scrub their "Anti-M rated" sand out of their vaginas and strive to make money so they can support their personal agendas/company image, as much as it pains me to say that.
Exactly. Fans will buy the console, while casual gamers go elsewhere... therefore, the mainstream appeal keeps getting smaller and smaller. If nothing is done to gain mainstream appeal, they spend the rest of their days catering exclusively to that shrinking niche until they just collapse. This is exactly what happened with Sega and SNK.Quote:

The 1st one is fairly okay in adult tones and sells were pretty bad. the sequael turns into a "mature" hard rock things and sells really well. It's a bit depressing.
Nintendo secured a deal with Gyration a while back. That's the most evidence anyone has to what this new controller could be like. I don't have a source because I read this like a month ago.
Whatever it is, it will suck balls and be very gimmicky. Anyone that doesn't believe that this new system will be one giant gimmick like everything else they've done lately deserves to buy it and grow to hate it.
All I know is the graphics will be sweet. They're working with ATI) and it will go online( Shigero Pretty much confirmed it. Also the homeland MMO has a unique online plan that is free) Thats all I need.
How do you know gimmicks suck. I love my DS and GBA( which back in the days was considered a gimmick) also the rumble paks and other stuff nintendo gimmickly made are all pretty much norm now. Except the VB. Connectivity will be used for the PSP so that gimmick is becoming norm)

Nice to know the worthless sack of shit came back for more.
I just want to understand while people would make up their mind about the system off a rumour? Until E3 I am not picking any next gen console to win.
(15:50:29) Maurizio: seriously, how many people like Nintendo
(15:50:32) Maurizio: HAS to be the same guy
(15:51:58) Me: LOL
Because Nintendo is doing it, and they fuck up every piece of hardware they make.
I bought my first GC this month and I personally love it. I don't understand how they "fucked up" with this console.
Again you didn't answer why your basing your opinion on buying their new console off rumours.
The killer app could be Pikachu's Pooping Adventure and you'd still say "am greatest thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!"Quote:

It will be crap because of the controller. I don't care how impressive the games look, if they screw up the controller worse than the GC one, it's gonna be another one (ok, 5) hit wonder. I wish them the best of luck, but it just ain't gonna happen.Quote:

His cape attack only functions by using the stylus on the DS, that kit is only 30 since the DS is already wireless capable.
To use all the controls simultaneously you'll have to buy the Nintendo first-party monkey assistor pack. Don't go for the third-party monkeys. They sometimes have rabies.
You know..looking back on that post, I can almost guarantee you that using the DS for d-pad plus button ability, or perhaps the GBA2 as a satellite controller, will be almost guaranteed and necessary.
What's wrong with the GC controller again???
It sucks ass for every game not specifically designed for it?
D-pad is too small and Z button feels out of place. C-stick should have been the same size as the Analog stick. Some feel oversized A button caused an awkward and unintuitive control scheme for some third-party games (especially ports).Quote:

This is Nintendo Folks, the new controler will be a DS. Wireless, touchscreen, awful.
If anyone can pull off a controller like this, Nintendo can. Hell, if systems could survive before without them, they'll be fine now without them.
Thats the ONLY thing that I hope gets changed on the PS3 controller. Just flipping the D-pad and analog stick around is just fine. Do it Sony! Dont fuck with anything else! Also dont fuck around too much with the button layout for XBox 2 Microsoft!Quote:

I don't think a controller design will convince millions to not buy a console. I really don't care as long as it works.
Again this is all a damn rumour. Nintendo will ship with a slightly different GC controller.
I think Nintendo "revolution" will mainly affect marketing and their first party games. Ever since E3 there has been more Nintendo commercials I have seen this year than I saw all last year. I can't watch t.v without seeing a chain of memories commercial at least twice a day.

The image above is the Gamecube "prototype" controller, which had no D-Pad; they already tried to do away with it. Note the different B button, also.
man, that is ugly.
The Gyration potential is interesting, if nothing else.
If that deal really did happen, the controller could have some capabilities like this little dealie:

Wireless, motion-sensitive stuff.
