Los Angeles, CA- Hollywood big-wig director Joel Schumacher announced in a press conference today that he will be taking the director's chair for the big-budget live-action version of the acclaimed Playstation videogame series, Metal Gear Solid. The games revolve around super-spy Soild Snake and his adventures while saving the world from nuclear threats posed by giant robots known as Metal Gears.
Seated with Hideo Kojima, the creator/producer/director of the series, who will be assisting in penning the script, Schumacher outlined his basic plans for the film. "I plan on taking a similar approach to Solid Snake and the Metal Gear franchise as I did to the Batman franchise. I'm not talking the neon and all that crazy stuff, which even I have to admit was over the top, but this is based on a videogame. People aren't going to take it too seriously if we try to. Hideo's writing a really tight script and it's my job to spoon-feed it to the public while making sure that we remain true to fans of the game."
When asked what he meant when he said he'd be taking a similar approach to Metal Gear as he did to the two Batman movies he made (1995's Batman Forever and 1997's Batman and Robin), Schumacher replied, "I'm bring back the same design team for the costumes, set, props, Snake's 'Snakemobile,' etc. Like I said, no neon, but I have a clear vision as to what my version of Solid Snake should look like, and Hideo has approved of the changes I plan on making."
But will Snake's patented "sneaking suit" have...nipples? And...*ahem*...a well-sculped posterior?
"Yes," Schumacher informed us. "Call that my mark on the movie industry."
No other info was given, other than the fact that basic plot of the movie involves Snake battling a new Metal Gear robot with a giant robot of his own, in addition to a possible alien invasion.
No casting has been done, but auditions are scheduled to begin next week. Schumacher mentioned that he was looking for a fresh, unknown talent, from 17-23 years of age and of any race, to take on the role of Solid Snake. "I'm truly casting the role blind. It'll be the best young man for the job."
More on this when we hear it.
