See the thing is, they have to do stuff like this and the NBA Street V.3 thing because when people have multiple systems, the Gamecube version is usually the last one you want to buy a multi-platform game for. I mean, the GC controller works really well for games designed for the GC, but for multi-platform games (THPS and SSX come to mind) it's probably the least desirable controller.
