Apparently, because they never seem to die.

Grave, all that pic proves is that the raised webbing isn't the only thing wrong with the movie's version of the symbiote. It's supposed to be a living thing, why would it have a cloth texture? It should be slick and oily - really, the way to go is that paint-on latex stuff (uh, but with garments under it so it doesn't reveal the shape of Toby's junk :P ).
I disagree as far as the symbiote on Spider-Man is concerned. The original books had the thing as "living cloth" that emulated whatever material he needed. I don't see any reason it wouldn't emulate his original costume. It definately is weird alien goop at various points, I don't think there's any really good story reason to make it that way all the time.
"Um, hey, Spider-Man... you have tar on you." "Oh, right. I see. Better do something about that, then."
the actual costumes dont bother me. the fact that Venom is built like a Backstreet Boy bothers me.
It's a picture of a doll, not the actual character in the movie. A lot of Sideshow Collectable's movie dolls are way skinnier than their real-life counterparts. Take a look at their Jason Goes to Hell doll...Jason ain't that anorexic in the movie.

Hopefully the same holds true for the movie version of Venom. But if he is that skinny, at least they got the head perfectly right.
To no-one's surprise, the gears are now in motion on Spidey 4.
I hope Raimi backs out after 3, he's done a great job so far but I've had enough and would like to see what else he can do now. I'm a big Evil Dead dork and everything, and I love Spider-Man, but Raimi hasn't really impressed me with his non-nerd movies and his horror production company is fucking horrible.
Perfect example, that. Venom's gonna be bigger than that figure, if the regular mass market figure is any indicator. A pic surfaced from a leaked batch of the figures over in Asia:
