Solution: Ban abortion, allow gay marriage. Put all the extra babies up adoption, where the gay parents will adopt 'em all up. This will appease both sides.

Also, is there any real reason why female birth control isn't over the counter? Considering it's been around since the '60's (iirc), I'm sure that the price of production is pennies nowadays. Are there some major side-effects that I'm unaware of, or is it only because of companies' greed?

It's once again a religious issue. According to the right, giving teenagers condoms and birth control is what causes them to have sex. In fact, trying to educate them on practicing safe sex is supposedly enough to send them into a frenzy-like orgy.
