So, I got a phone call about an hour ago. I expected it to be an exciting offer from the Washington Post or something, but it was actually my district manager.
The Babbages that I work at, which has been in the mall for like, 20 years, is closed as of today. The mall didn't renew our lease.
I'm gonna get a severence package if they can't find anything else for me, but this is bad timing, as I'm in a little bit of debt right now.
I wonder what'll happen to all of the preorders?
There are still Babbages around? There hasn't been one in San Diego for years. Why wouldn't they renew the lease?

It's probably that they were were looking at dumping a location to cut costs, and your lease just came up first. Sucks.

Its pretty common in mail retail really.
I'll bet the mall is a litlle dated looking, and overdue for a remodel, and this is one way these malls force stores to remodel.
They could also have a bigger tennant who wants the space, maybe taking over some adjoining space for a bigger store.
Ill bet they will reopen in other spot in the mall, maybe under the Gamestop name.
That really stinks, Korly. Sorry to hear that. I don't know if you'll be able to find out exactly why the mall didn't renew the lease but any of the guesses in this thread would be a good one.

The "UE" is often why stuff doesn't stay long or don't get permits at all in the towns outside of Houston (the places with actual zoneing). Things like public transportation, strip clubs, bars (ones that do not actually sell lunch an dinner, pub food nonwithstanding), pawn/bail bonds shops, music stores that don't sell instruments for high school bands/orchestras (did a check on this, you can sell guitars and drum sets and PAs and the like, but you must stock brass, woodwind and string instruments as well in the city of Sugar Land where I work), tobbacco stores (there IS one in Sugar Land, but it's exclusively for Cigars), and even some videogame stores (Middle Earth Gaming, a 24 hr LAN arcade) are the kinds that don't get licence or are pushed out by community based organizations deeming them "Unattractive Elements". Establishments or services like this must move further up interstate 59 into Stafford or Houston. Fun fact, Tom DeLay is a part of SL's community planning organization. Sugar Land is his nest.

When I was unemployed in New York, I had to file every week, but in your case, you file every two weeks.
