It is most certainly NOT cheaper to execute rather than imprison for life. This is due almost entirely to the lengthy appellate process afforded to people on death row. Taking away that would increase the number of innocent people executed, which I believe is a more disgusting crime than most.

Personally I don't agree with either. However, practically, the government is allowed to kill innocent people because the people are stupid enough to believe that their government doesn't do it willing or knowingly. Besides, it is important to the status quo that killing in combat is made to seem different than killing at home, so as to try and distance the feelings of remorse and make soldiers 'selective' sociopaths as opposed to regular ones.

This is sadly true, although I don't think putting innocent people in prison for the rest of their lives is much better.

and surprisingly i agree with you about the death penalty being an outdated and draconian punishment, you arent getting closure, you arent getting peace, you are just getting blood for blood, it brings no benefit to society,a nd only seves to further a coarsened culture for more killers to come from. check the crime statistics from cultures without the death penalty and those with the death penalty, the culture refelects the people, but people reflect the culture as well, and one that views human life as easily expendable is one that produces peopel who feel no qualms expending human life.
