DMC3 vs. God of War

Alright, two big action games are coming out in March, very close to one another. Which one do you think will have better sales/reviews/fan praise?

For DMC3:
+ Back with the original team.
+ Style system should add diversity and replay value.
+ Has big name recognition.
+ No doubt will have great action sequences and boss battles.
+ Shotgun nunchucks.
- DMC2 put a mark on the franchise's reputation
- Being the third installment, people might be tired of the familiarity.
- Will they make a camera that people actually like?

For GoW
+ It's a great looking game. Attack animations are amazing.
+ More variety in the gameplay.
+ People who have played it so far are gushing about it.
+ Bladed nunchucks
- Brand new title, coming out against an established franchise.
- Developers talking about allowing the players to "revel in rage" has me worried about another case of PoP2

I personally think that DMC3 wil do better, even if GoW gets better reviews.

Well Despair I hope you're right about DMC3....cuz I dont want to see another horrible dissappointment from Dante....but that title has me worried, it sounds like a 70s porno....Dantes Awakening.

I hope DMC 3 is great in a DMC 1 kind of way, but I'm looking WAY more forward to God of War. I think that game looks like one of the most bad ass games ever.

DMC doesn't need another game in the series until the next-gen systems can help it offer up something new. As of now it looks more of the same with a new hat tacked on. God of War is fresh and new, but they'll both be awesome.

I'm looking forward to DMC3 more, my hopes are high for that one.

DMC3's graphics look better than what I've seen of God of War since I think it could use a better lighting system unless they changed it. GOW does look like badass game, I'll most likely wait out for the reviews to come in (unlike DMC2 which I just rushed to get) and see how they both fare.

got the GoW demo yesterday and its a pretty decent game. i expected notihng since i didnt read up on it but its pretty badass. the ability to swing the cahin swords, hook and enemy to one and whirl them around is cool, as is the ability toi grab and enemy and just rip them in half. the one boss fight with the hydra was also cool. the damn thing takes you in its mouth and you mash the button to get out. then while youre falling the screen displays QTE type indicators and if you get them all the character goes BERSERK. another time youre fighting the hydra in the inside of the boat and you latch onto its head witht he chains and just bash it against the walls over and over. nothing outstanding but an overall decent game.

dmc i could care less about.

I think God of War has a shot at being the better game, but DMC3 will no doubt have the better sales.

I've never played the DMC series (don't have a PS2), but from movies I've seen, God of War seems to have more focus behind it's design and gameplay (plus it doesn't look like shit). It will likely wind up being the better game.

DMC has name recognition, but that's no garuntee it will sell better. Especially after the unilateral declaration by the industry of DMC2 as utter garbage. Once bitten, twice shy so I imagine their will be a lot of fence sitters when DMC3 hits the shelves.

Yea, because Konami can really make a much better DMC than DMC. Just look at Castlevania LOI for proof.

Thanks, dipshit. My point was that no one but Konami could do it. If Konami can't either, that is further proof that DMC3 will be better.

Konami got their chance to do it, and failed. I dont even know the name of God of War's developer but I can say with certainty they are better than Konami. Unless Sega is doing it, I guess.

It's SCEA Santa Monica. I think they made Kinetica which wasn't bad.

DMC 3 will be pretty cool, but I am much more interested in God of War. God of War looks to have much more varied landscapes and is something new. DMC 3 should be a much more refined DMC, but DMC 2 was supposed to have been better as well and did not really turn out that way.

I'll be buying God of War before I would buy DMC 3.

Ok, well the producer of Twisted Metal Black David Jaffe, heck all the Twisteds except 3 and 4, is the guy whom I first saw talking about it in various interviews, so I figured it was Incog. Heck, maybe Santa Monica IS Incog and I dont know. Or maybe he just took another job.

Sony was super nice and sent me a GoW demo today. I have to give it another run thru before I post impressions, but so far it has impressed.

Just a funny note about this GoW/DMC comparison thing is that the game is more Rygar (PS2) than it is DMC.

Yeah, That what I thought about GOW too. DMC is more is based more in close combat, with guns used for long range attacks, where Rygar, and now GOW using swords on chains for both. It worked in Rygar nicely (when you actually had something to fight), and from all of the movies for GOW I have seen so far, it works well too.

am i the only one that gets leery when a review puts "EXCLUSIVE FIRST REVIEW" all over the place? the fact that that it's an official magazine doesn't help matters..

True but with the recent vids I feel confident about pre-ordering it before some "real" impressions comes out. Only real problem so far is the awful singing during the fights.

edit: And I don't know where I stand on the devil form, devil+klonoa+wings out of his ass= :/

I've been waiting for God of War for what seems like forever now.

I am convinced it will be my GOTY for 2005, and probably one of the only next gen games I buy.

I still think Recap was the worst.

Anyway, I lost all excitement for DMC3 when I saw the preview on X-PLAY and heard, "This party's gettin' crazy!" If Capcom refuses to make the stories and dialogue in these games anything more than embarassing garbage, I'm not even going to bother anymore. I've suffered too much already from this series.

I take it you weren't a fan of the tear dripping scene in the end of part one then?

A bit more serious approach might have been prefered at times but I still think that the scene were he puts on the coat is pretty awesome in the corny way, I hope, they intended.

g0zen is a loathsome human being but hes right on. Capcom feels the need to ruin games like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry with idiotic dialogue and horrible voice work, and I for one cant take it anymore. They put so much fucking work into the art and atmosphere and then throw it away with that shit. I overlooked it in the original DMC because that felt like the game I was born to play, but I cant overlook it again in good conscience.

From what I played of the demo I can possibly see it making it into the top 5 five of the year for me. It seems to be a great entry, but doesn't have the polish that we are seeing come from estabished franchises (like RE4 ;)).

It felt alot like Mercenaries to me. Great idea, great game play, but just doesn't seem to have the finish that I'm used to seeing from AAA titles.

Anyone who is remotely interested in this game should head on over to www.gametrailers.com and view the three new videos. I was slightly interested in this game only because of it's comparison to Rygar but after those videos I'm deffinitly picking this one up.

There's one boss fight in there so if you are not interested in spoiling anything stay away.
