Mardi Gras, Lent, & Catholicism
Fat Tuesday's just one day way... :D
(I was going to post a pic here, but apparently all images regarding Fat Tuesday in Google involve boobs?)
...But so is Lent. :(
I didn't know if anyone here was Catholic. I've had my problems with the church in the past (right now I'm not anteing up in the collection plate in protest of their involvement with the election), but I'll always love her.
Out of all the crazy traditions, my favorite is Lent. That’s where you fast from personal pleasures in order to empathize with Jesus’ suffering during his forty days in the desert prior to Easter. They’ve changed the rules over the years, for a while I think you couldn’t eat meat at all during Lent, now you only give it up on Fridays, then fast all of Good Friday.
I enjoy it not because I think I don’t know what suffering is, or because the things I give up are bad. But because it makes me appreciate the things I love but take for granted even more.
So with all that said, here what I’m giving up this season:- Mammals (Beef & Pork, fuck I love those)
- Fast Food (this is more strategic than anything, I blow $$ on delivery)
- Message Boards (this won’t really matter here since I haven’t been around long)
So Here's to Fat Tuesday!!
I'm going to eat steak all day and get wasted all night!!!
(Next Year I'll have to break down and make that trip to Mardi Gras...)
