It sounds like they tried to settle it out of court, but she was being an idiot about signing a contract saying she wouldn't claim additional damages. She said it was insulting, like they didn't trust her. That kind of statement is made by A) Irrational, brain dead idiots or B) Law abusing crooks. Since she had previously claimed damages over a plate of COOKIES, being over emotional for no apparent reason, she's probably in the 2nd category.

Maybe there's some weird history between these two households we don't know about and the cookies were a...."code" message...but I just don't see it and neither side has said anything about the cookies being potential sarcasm. All I can see is two people who went overboard with their privacy issues and are paying the price for making such a snap decision to sue. Maybe the girls thought "Hey, since we didn't go to the dance, before we have our little slumber party and watch Sleepless in Seattle, let's bake some cookies and and leave them over at the neighbor's house next door as a harmless joke. The neighbor lady is such a weird grouch maybe a funny, anonymous gift will lighten her up." Girls do think like that, I know a few who do. Sometimes girls have a weird sense of humor. And then sometimes people have a weird sense of personal pride like the Youngs. Wow.
