You know, just something inside, feels happy again. As a gamer, there's just so much to love out now or coming up soon. It wasn't like this last year. It's like, when you've been with somebody for a long time, and you start to forget why you're together, and thing just don't feel as happy as they used to - and then, one day, you look at the person just right, and you remember all over again why you fell in love. I see some of these games being shown off, and I remember why I play video games.
I hear ya.
This E3 has something for everyone. Every system has great games coming and there are so many classic franchises being reborn. There's a strong possibility this could be the best year ever for gaming.
Funnily enough, I almost wouldn't have believed that possible after the DC. But here we are, and there are SO MANY games coming that look so good (Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid, Mario) and so many that seem will finally come to the fruitation we have so hoped for while lacking in what we wanted through these years. Sequels that all live up to what has come before? Will wonders never cease?Quote:

Word. Even with DC it was hard to get this excited, because everything else sucked. It felt like the whole industry had gone for the lowest common denominator and every game was another attempt to trick Mrs. Minivan out of her hard mutual-funded dollars at christmas when shopping for Timmy.
But this last week, I've seen at least two, three, hell five things every day that have me excited.
I can't effing believe we're on the cusp of a year with new Rygar, Ninja Gaiden, Shinobi, CONTRA!!. Castlevania, Suikoden, Tecmo Bowl, Ridge Racer, Legend of Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon (tell me you can believe you're seeing movies of that), Silent Hill, more Virtua Fighter, Shenmue and more. There's so much I can't even think of it all. And just think, the show hasn't even started yet...
Maybe we can start a pool as to which games will get delayed or cancelled:
Delayed
Mario Sunshine 10 to 1
Zelda GC 25 to 1 (post previous announcement)
Cancelled
Tekki (US Release) 3 to 2
Panzer Dragoon Otra 1.5 to 1
And so on.
If enough people profit off of the things that'll piss everyone off, it might help quell some of the bitching.
Actually it is nice to see people exuberant, but I can only read so many caps-lock-cursing-!!!!!1 posts before I grow sick of it.
Has there ever been an E3 with so much focus on sequels, ports and franchises? The new hardware is nice to see, and the recent price drops were icing on the cake, but I don't really give a shit about most of the software. All for the best I suppose, the industry is so damn saturated now that I can only afford to focus on the fresh stuff.
If anyone is getting tired of my little rants, let me know. I think I'm coming off as a broken record at this point.
I've noticed it a few times , yes, but nothing constant.
It could very well be that people are so excited because there are so many things they recognize.
I myself and interested in Suikoden 3 for the something old, and Tekki for the something new.

I'm sure I'll like many of the other games.
I dunno... opposed to lots of sequels NOBODY asked for, which seemed to happen a lot the last couple of years, it seems like this year we're just getting a TON of sequels or remakes that fans have been begging for for a long time now.
I think part of that is because all our new systems are already out, and there's no new system launching soon, so companies are focusing on stuff we already have (or have been wanting in sequels) instead of something "new". Generally big leaps come with new systems (Mario or Sonic going 3D, large flagship titles, etc.), but most of the games coming so far have already been announced/heavily rumoured so E3 simply adds officialness and new videos for so much that we can finally see what some of us have been after for so long.Quote:

Many games seemed to have missed an entire generation of consoles, something that many people want sequels for. Oddly enough, they all seem to come at once, a series of updates for NES/SNES/Genesis titles, things so many (like me) have been clamoring for for a long time, and they don't look horrid. In fact, they look good, like they might just all be incredibly fun. And that makes me joyous, to see established series moving on and continuing that which made us want sequels in the first place: 'Cause it was so damn fun the first time around.

I don't know, there seems to be a fair bit of excitement about Morrowind (yeah, technically it's a sequel, but to games no one played), Steel Battalion, Eternal Darkness, Project Ego, Auto Modellista, Gladius, and Gungrave.
But it's only natural to be excited at the prospect of more of a game you loved, especially when it's a game you never dreamed would see a sequel (Rygar!? Tecmo Bowl? Legend of Dragoon? 2.5D Contra? Panzer Dragoon?)
The pics of almost every one of these sequels look great but there are three games I'm worried about: Shinobi, Metroid Prime, and Rygar.
If they screw up Rygar, I'll be pissed but I'll live.
If they screw up Prime, there's always Fusion.
If they screw up Shinobi, someone's going to die.
i read all the posts on this thread....the reason for all these sequels and old school companies swinging their old school games comes down to one factor....
Sega as a third party. they raised the stakes.
Any other 3rd party who thinks they are going to be able to play "keeping up with the Joneses" with Sega is out of their damn mind.Quote:

If there is any truth to this at all then god bless Sega. I have been giving Sega alot of heat for dumping on the people who bought the DC with all the cancelled games but this would wipe the slate clean. If Sega going 3rd party made this all happen then I'm glad Sega jumped out of the hardware market. I just wish they did it sooner. That is, if there is any truth to this, which we can't really ever prove.Quote:

I never thought of that before, but it makes sense. Stemming from the fact that Sega was in the industry since pretty much the beginning. They have a history and a relationship with the gaming community- and what a complicated relationship it has been, full of ups and downs.
Its that history that is Segas greatest asset (in terms of games).
My Xbox loves Tecmo so much right now. Seriously, I can't even count the number of "must buys" from the first day of E3. Even Game and Watch Gallery 4.
Don't forget all the lovely price drops too...especially if all new games end up being $40....
I think Sega being third-party and the fact that there are more than a few games that might be looked at as financial risks by developers (but not by gamers - do you guys think Battalion, Orta, Contra, Gaiden, etc. are gonna be huge sellers?) are the major reasons why E3 is so promising this year.
Hell yeh, G&WG4 looks superb! I used to love those old games and they were super fun, it looks like Nintendo did a great job updating them for GBA. This game is definetly a must buy for me as well..Quote:

As for everything else, I pretty much agree with most of you guys. I have been thinking the same thing myself. These are great times to be a gamer. So many incredible games are coming out, prices are dropping... I am actually surprised but I am even interested in some series I was never really interested in before! There is so much that looks good!
Regarding SEGA... well, I can't believe I am saying this but it really seems like the best thing that could have happened was for them (and the industry) was going 3rd party. If they were still making hardware right now could they compete with all of these vicious price wars? In the long run I doubt it. Instead they're just making tonnes of incredibly looking games for every system. A year ago I was depressed and questioned if I'd even want to buy a new system. Right now I want them all! Well, I don't really want PS2 to be honest but if I got one there are some good games there too. Sega is making great games and turning a profit, which means more great games to come. GBA is pure 2D bliss, which is wonderful..... a lot of my favourite series are coming back (I hope that Woonderboy rumour is true!)..

That GBA Shinobi looks to me like a bad fan-made Rygar/Ninja Gaiden game on PC than a Shinobi game. I sure as hell hope that's not a real GBA pic we saw in that thread from a short while back.

Actually, I'm most excited about the GBA games coming out. This little system is kicking everyone's ass IMO. Sure, there are plenty of ports, but who can say that the consoles aren't overloaded with them? Also, the ports released are great games, so I can't complain. The original software on GBA is just too darn good to pass up as well.
Man, the best of E3's lineup sounds just like a classic lineup of Sega and Nintendo's best from the 8/16-bit days... I love this!
And I really shouldn't forget the newer games that also look great, like GunGrave. Mm-mm, tasty baked goodness in a little disc.
