Omar Minaya wasnt the GM until the end of last season.

As for the Mets performance... its a hella tough division, the trick is to just stick around for the next 50 or 60 games. It makes no sense to surge now.

What you're describing really is the 1996 and 1998 Yankees. But once Steinbrenner started handing Cashman blank checks and letting him try to assemble an All-Star team that the championships stopped coming.

The Rangers finally got smart and dropped all their big names. Having no season this year is probably a great thing for them as they need time to develop what they have now.

I still don't understand the hatred of Jeter and probably never will. Every time I've seen him play, he's done so professionally and without incident. He's a good player. It makes no sense to me.

Alot of Jeter's worth is tied up in intangibles, still, I would never call him overrated.

I don't understand why, though. Are people going around saying he's the best ever? I mean, looking at his stats this year and over his career I'd say he's above average. What are the intangible parts of Jeter's worth?

He's the only clutch Yankees hitter I've ever seen come through at so many different times. And his clutch becomes 2x during the playoffs. And he truly is a team leader.

Um, Jeter has been the heart and soul of the team for 10 years now (including the dynasty teams), gets clutch hits like nobody's business, and plays his ass off every single game. He's currently hitting over .360 with an on base percentage close to .500. He's the team captain. He's earned the respect and admiration of everyone in the game. How exactly is he overrated or overpaid?

As for A-Rod, the Yankees are paying him 16 million a year and he plays gold glove third base ("out of position").

The problem with the Yankees the last few years is very simple: Pitching. Last year's team had the worst pitching staff I've seen since the early 90's. They also haven't had a David Cone the last few years, an ace that you know you give the ball to for every big game and win.

What players do the Yankees have that you would rather plug in an 8 million dollar player for (outside of pitching)? I'd like to see Giambi go (although it was not stupid for the Yankees to sign him unless they knew he was on steroids, which I doubt), but what other position players are big ticket disasters? Womack at second base is decent, Jeter's great, A-Rod's good, Matsui's great, Bernie's winding down his career, Sheffield's great, Posada's great.

I'd love to know who's idea it was to let John Lieber go and sign Jaret Wright, that's the stupidest move I've seen the Yankees make in a long time. I also would have kept El Duque, and made a run at Troy Percival for the setup role then shipped Tom Gordon's ass to close for some go-nowhere team.
