I made another matrix online thread since the others were locked....and old as hell.
They finally lifted the NDA and beta testers can talk about the game freely. Is there anyone else playing?
I've been playing for a week or two and I'm really enjoying the game. At the moment I'm a level 13 hacker and doing random jobs for Zion.
Matrix online has a ton of screen shots, video clips, cinemas and other info for the game also.
Um, how is it?

I'm just surprised that people still care about the Matrix.
As an MMO it lacks the neccessities for a real solid guild - it has no real raid capability, and grouping both destroys any matrixy feel to it and is boring as shit.
Combat is classic rock paper scissors shit and requires stupid amounts of luck to win. There's no real skill to it.
To top it off, there's so much made of the Zionist/Agent/merovingian faction system, which is nothing more intricate than the velious-era EQ faction system. In fact, I'd consider it pretty much as basic, and Velious was released years and years ago.
It also is really fucking buggy. But that's just one of the problems.

I haven't really seen any benifits from the factions either, other than you can cross the other factions and their areas will become more hostile towards you. I played the game free for a month, and having played WoW for just over a month and a half now, I would still say WoW blows CoH out of the water. ONe really great thing about CoH is, though, that you really get a feel for BEING a super-hero (Flying and such.)Quote:

I played the beta for a while, and a few weeks of the actual game on my friend's PC. It's fun but it's no WoW, not at all.
He didn't really say what he did with a group or even mention how long he played. I'm guessing not too long since he thinks combat is just random rock paper scissors and you have no control over it. limited pvp is coming around april or may, and its not just fighting one another, its supposed to be competing mission based, so it adds soem variety. I am a serious coh whore, so you know to look for me if you get it. one bonus is the idea of sidekicking or exemplaring, if you start at level 1 and see me on, i can either sidekick you, and you will be temporarily leveled up to a level close to mine(though you will still only have the skills you had, so its a taste of high level play, not the whole thing) or, conversely i could "exemplar" and artificially level down to level 1 and play along side you, with only the skills that i had when i was level 1, so outleveling a friend is not a real concern.Quote:

The beta alone is a GIG. I wonder what all the HD space goes towards. It could be for voices since a lot of characters from the movie will be making appearances and so far I've heard about 2 or 3 of em talk.
The whole world is pretty huge also. I've gotten lost quite a few times just wandering about chasing gangs. Every building you see in the game you can go inside and run around. I've even found some exile hideouts in some weird locations (inside a bottom floor of a populated school, clubs, banks)
Last night I made it down to the Virologist job class. Its pretty fun to pummel a enemy with some virii before they can even get to you, then bust out in a gun fight to finish them off.

Stress part 2 will take place March 1st so get your beta test keys while they last. Stress test 2 will also let people actually play out some of the many story events for the game.
The game keeps on getting bigger and bigger. They been patching and upgrading a lot lately. I've also noticed that the various job missions you can take can be done various different ways depending on job class. For example: "if your a spy, you can pretty much sneak in and get the job done without fighting. Hackers can get additional information from computers around mission areas."
I believe they only have half or less of the world open for beta testers to play on and the world is already HUGE.
I can't wait to play the story bits and see what all is going on in the main story. I've been pretty busy with my group. Also running jobs and raiding exile hideouts keeps you busy.

This game has absolutely zero hype and zero buzz. Its gonna flop, hard, and hopefully Sega will be taken down with it.
I've seen nothing but good things about it from folks who have played it.
I was pretty furious with it last week. After the major update the game was about impossible to play. But they finally fixed it and I'm having fun again.
I'm ready to play some story bits, cause I keep finding odd locations and I have a feeling they have something to do with story stuff.
There are already a bunch of plot twists that I know of. Machines are planning something and keep breaking truces. Morpheus is planning something big. The exiles are having inner power struggles between the main 12. Seems some exiles don't like the frenchman. Thats just a few things going on and coming.
is this game gonna be anything like City of Heroes?

this has become a coh thread under the guise of a matrix thread, yes its easier to get into, no crafting, no items, no equipment, you are your skills, period, some prefer more to do, i despised crafting in every mmo i played, so for me it was a blessing, plus character customisation is very deep, and the skills are varied. might be able to get a trail for you mar, will pm later.

I've never played City of hero's. I've never really played any MMRPG's before either. The only reason I play matrix online was I liked the first two movies and the concept. Then the whole idea of running around inside the matrix and doing whatever just sounded cool in my book. Plus i'm tired of fantasy/medievil type games.
As for crafting stuff in matrix. You can make stuff if you want, but its not really necessary unless you go for a coder job. Everything I've got in the game was either given to me or I found doing missions. I find this kinda funny but I have like 4 different Rocawear outfits at the moment.
Rtificial what is the combat like in Matrix Online? like typical fantasy/medievil of fighting(WoW for example), or is it real-time action based where you can control the fighting directly? also how big are the map/levels? in WoW the worlds are enormous.
UT2k4 is 5.5 gigs here while the Matrix beta is 5....
In the world of 80 gig hard drives being considered on the small end its not a big deal, if your still running a 40 or something smaller then all I can say is..

The fighting has been called a fast and modified rock paper scissors. You can either fight with guns and virus's or go in for close combat. If you go into close combat a little action tool bar pops up with your standard choices. Fast but weak, slow but strong, grapple, dodge, guns, hand to hand and run. Also the game has a hotbar at the top of the screen where you can put various items, weapons, skills for fast access and use. If you're saying this, then MMO's really aren't for you. Every single one of them is just a time sink. It's really like devoting all your gaming/free time to it if you want to get high level. I mean, if there is a monthly fee, you gotta figure that there is a whole lotta game in there for you to play. Another big update today with much more added stuff to the matrix online. More tweeking, adding new characters, missions and other stuff to varied to list in full.
Since the start of stress test no. 2, I've made another character and been having fun with him. This time I sided with the exiles and seeing what all fun you can have on their side. I've also found some new areas...after I thought I been everywhere for beta. The matrix world is SUPER huuuuuuge.
Also this should excite all the people complaining about player vs player fights in matrix. If you played the game and wanted to fight another person. It usually pops up a challenge box and you can accept a deul. Then you fight till one person loses and then they can get back up...with only some health loss. Some people didn't like it and its usually the same people that complain about the fighting system after playing the game for maybe an hour.
If you spend some time with the game and get to lvl 15 or above. By then you should be some what deep in a job class and have a side you have joined. Well then next on your list of things to do should be to check out the book store for your side(zion, machine, exile) Once there buy the book according to your character lvl and equip it. Then go hang out by the proxy guy in the back of the shop. Soon he will open up a portal and warp everyone with the appropiate key to archieve.
Inside the archieve each side has their own area. In the middle is a huge asian palace. The closer to the palace the harder the enemies get. Rare items can be found here but this is one of the many perks. In this place its almost like a war zone. Other human characters can attack you without warning, just as you attack other computer characters. So now its really a fight, with multi people being able to jump in and pretty much wage war...or small brawls for the good of zion, exile or machine...which ever your sided with.
I need to lvl up a bit and switch back to my old job....some damn spys been playing cheap and its time for pay back heh.
This sounds like your average MMORPG with the Matrix loosely as the backdrop. Gangs? What the fuck?
Throw in a tedious combat system that depends way too much on luck, absolutely boring missions, and a depressingly generic city. I tried the stress test for quite a while, made it to level 8 just to see if there was anything redeemable about it other than the hip fashion of the player characters, but there isn't. It just isn't any fun, even ignoring the huge pile of bugs.Quote:

If reaching higher than level 8 is what I need to do for the combat to stop sucking then I think there's something wrong right there. I tried mainly operative, both spy and fighting trees, both martial arts and firearms. It always boiled down to luck for me no matter what abilities I used. Take down an enemy two levels above me without a scratch, then get taken down by one two levels below. Not exactly a fun experience, especially when nearly half the quests I attempted couldn't be finished due to bugs.

The game has been updated a whole lot since you played. Now gangs will chase you if your in a close radius. The more hostile they are the worse they will go after you. The agent that probably shot you is more than likely the lvl 255 agent that appears when your in an area your not supposed to be in. He pretty much kills you in one hit. The new update really enforces getting the access node and now details which areas you need access clearance.
Fights have been updated a ton too, they now have final sound effects and more animations and better camera. Also bigger details pop up to show damage and status effects and exp during fights. Its now way much easier to see whats going on.
Another new update. Starting Saturday they will be having a final game preview online for all beta testers to celebrate it being released in 2 weeks. The preview will go on till Tuesday at 9 PST. The preview will show many new characters and story bits and a few other things for people to see and try out.

Well beta ends tonight and its going out with a bang. They have released some new cinemas and reveal some VERY big twists. Also the matrix is in a total state of appocolypse at the moment. The whole place is red and a virus is running rampant setting people on fire. Also the sky is filled with eyes and the machines are purging humans out of the system.
Lots of stuff I won't go into detail to save spoilers.
Finally matrix has went gold already too. Lets hope my copy comes in the mail soon.

A lot of info has come out about the game. Seems like things will not be as the beta ended and will go back to right after the 3rd movie.
Also they have told some rather interesting information about the servers. They have renamed some of the servers and atleast one server will be designated "hostile". In hostile servers when tessions get tense between groups in the story, you can expect some major conflicts on hostile servers. Anyone lvl 15 and above will not be able to avoid the conflict, but lower lvl's will be able to choose to fight or not.

Been awhile since I updated this, but lots of events been going on. They've added a lot of new stuff also. They now got a few cameras to choose from and added a in game media player.
But the big updates have been the story events. Lately there has been a infestation of fake agents with red blinking eyes and red LED PDA's. They were a ploy by someone to break the truce between machine and human.
This past week has seen the fake agents totally take over gangs and leave mysterious RSI fragments. So each day each organization has been scrambling to collect as many of the fragments as possible with the agents really increasing in numbers and attacking people the later in the night.
After the organizations had time to investigate the fragments, it turns out they are part of Neo's RSI and may be used to bring him back. Also a 4th group has come out and is behind the whole fake agent business. Today has seen all 3 organizations team up to fight this mysterious 4th group in what ended in a BIG war in Magog. After some brutal fighting we ended up victorous and stopped the fake agent madness.
Now there is a brief calm till the 4th group begins their next plan. I took some pretty good screen shots of the war. I may post them later.
I want to play this game so badly it hurts. I really really really wish I had a PC capable of playing it. Please, continue with the what's happening in game if only for my poor soul.

I like the idea for the 'couple day long' Global Events that continue the Matrix story. Sounds like it may have been fun playing through that last one.
Yea I was browsing the schedule and looks like there are some one day events and some more 5 day events.
Last week was pretty fun, because everyday you jacked in something new was going on and it got more intense the later it got.
There was the mad collection of the RSI and fighting hordes of fake agents. The teams that were lagging behind would then have their faction leader start broadcasting to the whole faction barking orders or rally the troups. So you'd have Niobe raising moral or Agent grey harrassing the machines. At one point even morpheus went running around to street corners telling about his findings and about neo's will.
Also at times the servers will go hostile. When this happens PvP breaks out all over. So if your above lvl 10 and rival faction can attack you. There are also hostile servers and they are like that always if PvP is your main thing.
Heres two screen shots from the big war that took place last Sunday. I find these shots funny cause people were ganging up on these lvl 50 agents.

Well it seems the next live event has started. The events always catch me by surprise when they just break out.
Seems like something very weird is going on in the matrix. Lately there have been outbreaks of a weird illness in bluepills. Also Vampires and Lumpines are attacking all 3 groups. As it turns out they are retalliating because both groups leaders have been kidnapped. So they are attacking everyone till they come back.
Well time to jack back in and see what crazyness is going on.
If I wasn't playing WoW and still cared about the Matrix, I'd be all over this.

It's not as polished with as diverse an enemy list as WoW, but I'd say it's the second-best MMO I've played (I haven't touched Everquest II and I've only played the open beta of Guild Wars). Character creation is better than WoW's, but much in the same vein it doesn't matter too much because a lot of your look is your outfit which is going to change a lot.Quote:

It definately lacks the variety of places of WoW (Much like CoH you better like looking at skyscrapers for hours), and don't think that because I prefer some of the things they do in MxO means I think WoW should change. The gryphons are annoying but it was an amazing sight the first time I got on one and it's also to encourage mage/warlock teleports, and having only one trade skill at a time means the world economy builds through specialized trade. The main point is that both of the games took what fit their environment and mythology best and did it and I think they both work out really well that way.
So far I (obviously) like MxO, moreso than I was expecting. Certain things remain to be seen - such as how much I'll enjoy the constructs (instances) and how the whole destructable weapons and clothes thing works out - but right now I'm really enjoying myself. It also doesn't hurt that I like the style and ideas of the Matrix enough that I'm willing to overlook the many basic story flaws of its execution, it's not like MxO is going to convert anyone pissed off by the movies.

Yea I didn't know they did it either till the climatic closing on the beta test. A bunch of the programmers were agents running around in the chaos killing anyone who moved.
It seems the whole Lumpine/blood drinker attacks were a cheap ploy by the group leaders to rally support in their quest to take out the Merovingian. Seems like their are a bunch of people plotting in the exile camp for more power. The leaders were not really kidnapped but in hidding after recent assignation attempts.
To make things even more crazy, two high ranking blood drinker brothers seem to be about to have it out also. The one in power is busy with this whole Merovingian business. The other brother is gaining power in the streets by converting blue pills and red pills to his aid. In his mad quest he wants to over throw his brother and then make the matrix his new world.
I'm glad I don't have to choose sides in this turmoil, any of em attack me I'll pop em back. Not without some little viral fun first though haha.

Matrix online had a major update today. It took me the whole time DLing to read the full update list its so huge. Heres some of the major updates and stuff I can remember.
New critical mission packs. Seems like morpheus is about to cause a lot of trouble, be it good or bad.
Lots of new animations for moves and other things.
New sounds for moves, guns and other stuff
New looks and re-tweeking of moves.
Coding has been changed a bit also and is WAY faster
I think they added baseball caps and banadanas
Fights move much faster than before(stay on your toes!)
Other bug fixes and upgrades
A new contact for missions in downtown.
Tons of other stuff, well back to doing new missions.
Charging into battle is the best thing in MMORPGs. When I teamed with people in WOW and they went after horde I'd charge in full steam like an idiot.Quote:

Coming in the near future to matrix the team will be unleashing a new map system for the game. The new system will have better zoom and will show more location points than the current map. They plan to add more features to the new map also.
Also the "hunt for morpheus" big event will starting on the 20th. This will be the biggest live event yet spanning 10 days. I've been lvling like crazy and helping my crew out to prepare for this long event. The matrix online team is also gonna try out new features to help everyone to enjoy live events with no disrupptions. This time around players that try and ruin others games will be stopped.
Finally the matrix online will be giving every subscriber 3 trial keys to give to any friends and family to play the game for free. The free trial period will take place during the 10 days of the hunt for morpheus live event.
Well thats about it for now, back to making abilities.

Yea I'm not really sure how the whole trial thing works out fully either. I was guessing it would work like beta testing did. I really didn't need my hardcopy except for the serial key that was on the box. So I'm guessing if you buy it online after the free trial they could maybe send a serial through email or just wait for the hardcopy to come through snail mail.
Yea it may seem the game is in beta the way we talk about updates, but they just always improve and tweek stuff from people feed back. I don't know how other MMRPG's run, but on Matrix online if you have any type of problem you can type /ccr and submit a form about it. Usually if someone finds a bug/exploit or balance issues they can use generated system files and description of the problem to fix it. They have changed gameplay stuff before and people sent in complaints about it and they've changed it back also.
Also usually before big events they always add alot of new stuff like a cinema, mission packs and everything else to go with the new event. Out of all the online games I've played they update this thing the most.
The free trial keys were mailed today. I have 2 left and mech will probably post about his.
They released the new map/guide thingy yesterday and something went wrong with the new update so they rolled back. Guess we gotta wait a few days for em to release it again. Oh well didn't really lose anything important.
They have also released the second cinema for download on the official site.

The big 10 day event "the hunt for morpheus" starts tonight. Also the new patch will have new balancing between the job classes and the world atlas will be released again. Probably a whole load of other stuff which I'll find out later.

I don't think yall missed much yesterday, they are kinda buidling things up slow. I heard people saying they had some Morpheus sightings and he sent a few /tells to people. I think Niobe and an assasin ran around too.
I didn't really see anything cause me and a team mate were doing some crazy lvl up sprees. I think today if all is well they will release a new patch.
fucking hell this download is taking forever.
To DL the game or the updates? When I DL'd beta when they were giving out beta tester positions the DL was a gig. I can only imagine what the DL is now.
