Well, after 8 years of marriage and a six year old daughter, I've decided to move out and leave my wife. Why? Good question. As time moved on the conversation, sex, and everything else important seemed to diminish over time and it actually seemed to decline as soon as we got married. After years of internally trying to make this work, I realize that I either have to suck it up and be miserable for the sake of my kid, or try to be the best "absent" dad that I can be and find another love down the road. Obviously, I'm thinking the latter option as the first can only serve to make things worse.

The relationship dying doesn't bother me nearly as much as the traumatic effect that this will have on my daughter, who's probably the happiest kid on the planet. Life can really, REALLY fucking suck sometimes.

Now, factor in the fact that a really cute 20 year old is in love with me and you've got a triangle extraordinairre. The world can be a strange, strange place.

Nah, the marriage was in decline for years and I've never cheated on my wife. That being said, the "other interest" probably pushed me to do this faster than it might've otherwise happened. In any event, I think it was inevitable.

I feel your pain. I left a six year relationship behind a little while ago, and not a day goes by that I don't beat myself up about it.

Seriously though. Do whatever is best for your kid. Don't be one of those guys...

Dude, good for you. I mean, it sucks that your marrige is ending and all, but it takes A LOT of balls to end it. But you're doing it so that you'll be happy, and many people end up staying in shitty marriges because they're too scared to go it on their own. Good luck.

Man, it almost doesn't make any sense to get married...at least 60% of all of them fail. And you know an even higher percentage are unhappy and are considering ending it.

With one lone exception, every friend I know that's married is miserable, but their own words. MISERABLE. Shit, a guy I know went into work on Saturday not to really do work, but just so he wouldn't have to see his wife. He even made sure he was up and out the door before she was even awake because he can't stand her. The guy has $9000 in bills each month because his wife is a materialistic bitch yet she always complains that he's never around because he has to waste his life away toiling to sustain the lifestyle she insists on (no, she doesn't work). Thus, he wants to spend even less time with her.

Marrige...it's fucked up, man.

The best thing you could have done was to end it now while your daughter is young. Staying in a loveless marriage for the sake of the children never works, and it only serves to make matters worse. A clean break is best, and hopefully you and she can still remain friends. Just because you leave your wife, doesn't mean you leave your kids. It'll be harder to be as good a dad as you were before, but it's more than worth the effort.

As for marriage itself, it doesn't always end up in divorce. My wife and I met seven years ago (her mom worked with mine and they introduced us), and we have a 20 month-old daughter after almost 6 years of marriage. We're very solid and lucky, I guess. It can work, and everyone deserves a chance at the kind of happiness you have when it does.
