The problem, Dolemite, is that the kid will see that the dad left him, and then shortly thereafter the dad was banging some 20 year old tail. That will fuck him up. Maybe not now but when the kid is 13, 14 it definitely will.

Especially if divorce proceedings happen and the wife knows about the 20yo (which she will), and then it will come up in court (which it will), and when the kid is older he will find about about the 20 year old and wont be happy.

If there wasnt a kid in this situation it would be very different. I dont believe there was one in Nick's instance. But this is reality.

And look, I don't think that anybody in here is saying, "Yeah, dump your wife to tap that 20 year old ass!" or anything like that. I'm certainly not. If the divorce is going to happen anyhow, I'm just saying, don't let that chance pass you by.

Divorce is a crap thing, there's no two ways about that. But life sucks, and sometimes relationships don't work out. If you stay with somebody just for your kid, how are they supposed to feel when they get older and can understand that? "Gee, my mother/father spent years of hell because of me." I think that every chance should be taken to make a marriage work. I watched my parents go through a horrible divorce, and that has made me really think twice before considering marriage with somebody. When I do it, I want divorce to be the absolute final possibility.

But sometimes, it has to happen. Growing up without a full family sucked ass, but for the sake of my parents, and more specifically my mother, I'm glad they got divorced. While it would have made my life more comfortable, it wouldn't have been fair to them, and I wouldn't have wished that on them.

I think that all you can really do, if you're going to have a child, is do your damndest to never put them in that situation. But we're human, and humans have a way of making mistakes.

Well, guys, hopefully haoh has the good sense not to parade the new girl in front of his kid. He really needs to keep those two relationships completely seperate. Like I said, we don't know the full extent of the 20 year old's involvement. Was she instrumental in haoh's leaving, or is she just a rebound? It does seem fishy, since she's already "in love" with him...

That aside, I agree with you both that yeah, it's shitty to the kid, but do you guys really think someone should stay in a realtionship that they are really unhappy with for the sake of the kid? I've seen situations like that, and they usually end up doing more harm than good in the long run. Yeah, they're parents, but they're human beings too.

And I know what I'm talking about. I wish my parents split up years before they did.

Nothing against Haoh, I know people always have urges.

But I can tell you, my parents were never divorced. So it’s hard for people who have never gone through this to give advice. However I can only assume the person who will take it the hardest would be the child. Can you imagine not having either one of you’re parents around anymore after being around them their whole life. How would you like to hear conversations about your father about another women, that’s not you’re mother. That is definitely true, no matter the age. Because when the kid is young, they think they have something to do with it, and when the kid is old, then they know the whole story and realize how fucked up their parents really are.

The truth, I dealt with it as a child.. and it sucks bad...

I think as Mike has posed.. we need more clarity in the details surrounding whats going on, Either way I wish you luck bro & luckily I dont see my marriage coming to choices like these.

60% of all marriages fail, so there's a lot of kids out there going through shit like this.

It's not just the divorce aspect, it's the whole 20 year old thing that really makes the situation stick out.
