The controll sounds retarded. Hold down a sholder button and use the main stick to look? Use the right stick only for weapon selection? Uuuuuh why not just look with the right stick and select with the sholders? Dumb. *sigh* A Metroid game that needs a keyboard and mouse. Never thought I'd see the day. On top of that, it's not even getting the keyboard and mouse it needs....
well the controls sound interesting i wont make a comment really till i get to play it
the visuals sound damn nice and impressive and locked at 60 fps is a nice thing
sounds cool that the enemies blood splatter on your visor and all and theres different kinds of visors
im getting psyched for this game
cant wait to play it
I wont critisize the comtrol sceme until I play it. However, I dont recall any mention of a way to aim in the traditional sense. This seems to be a "lock on" shooter in that you have little to no control over aim since aiming is handled via auto-lock.
Interesting...
The controls sound exactly like Goldeneye 007, except now you can lock onto things. 007 used the same R button aiming method. I was worried about strafing at first. I think the gamespot impressions mention that you can only strafe with locked onto an enemy, but the PlanetGamecube impressions go into further depth. Seems you can strafe anytime by holding the L button.
Check out the multiple www.planetgamecube.com impressions. This game is shaping up quite nicely..
Just finished reading PGC's 2nd impression of Metroid Prime. It answered lot of questions I had about MP's controls & gameplay. Anyone who's remotely interested in Metroid Prime should check it out...

Although I was initially skeptical, Metroid Prime is appearing to be yet another Nintendo gem. I wouldn't knock the control scheme yet, either, especially since there will most likely be customizable control settings. What a year this could be for GC owners!
Hehe... from the demo I played, the controls aren't that bad, but the camera... like most of Sega's games, could've used some work...Quote:

Hello from LA! I got Riisuke, Nick, Kenshin and myself in this hotel room right now, so we're all enjoying the after-show crap. I saw this thread and since I'm finished my first draft of my gameplay impressions of Metroid Prime (first one to finish the demo in the entire expo! :D), I thought I might as well post it. Enjoy. I'll post some other stuff soon. :)
The demo for Metroid Prime was approximately 30 minutes long, depending on how long you explored the pirate ship that you land on. You first arrive on the docking port of the ship, where you learn how to target specific locations as well as aiming up and down. The main controls are A to fire your weapon, Y to fire your missiles, X to roll into your morph ball, B to jump or perform a quick sidestep, and R to aim in first persion in conjunction with the control stick. Once you enter the ship, you also learn how to use your scanning device, which is performed by tapping left on the digital pad and then holding down the L trigger to perform your scan. This occurs when you have to depressurize the airlock using the scanning device. After entering the door, you値l arrive at a small laboratory with some small monsters that you can do some target practice. After this part, the real fun starts.
The entire pirate ship is basically a clever tutorial on how to actually play the game, providing you with every basic maneuver that you値l need for the rest of the game. Eventually I came up against the end-boss of the stage, which is a simply enormous alien that is protected by a partial shield from his test tube. The shield from the test tube randomly changes shape, and eventually becomes set so that you値l be able to shoot him when you get a clear shot. After you have defeated the alien, in true Metroid fashion you値l have about five minutes to get the hell out of the ship before it blows. Unfortunately for you, the entire ship is falling apart around you, so you値l have to find another way to your ship. By navigating your way through some ventilation tubes you値l eventually get back to the ship and fly off.
From the first impressions I had with this game, it is extremely impressive. The scanning function not only works for activating key points in the game, but you can also scan just about every object in the game, such as computer consoles and even your enemies. The scanning process also takes some time, so you can稚 just scan something just for the heck of it. You can even use your scanning function to deactivate many of the security guns in the ship. For all of those people who were doubting that Metroid Prime might be anything less than stellar, they are wrong. Dead wrong. The gameplay is there, the graphics are definitely there, and most importantly the atmosphere of the Metroid series is definitely instilled into Prime, and it was definitely one of the best games of the show.
*drools like homer simpson* ohhhhhhhhh sweet sweet metroids
