Between those two schools, you'd be much better off at Miss. State for engineering. MSU has a much bigger engineering department with a lot more major/specialization options (especially if you're thinking about graduate school). I think at Ole Miss you'd be much more limited in your focus.Quote:

if you have the cash apply at USC, out of the top schools it's by far the easiest to get into. Some of my classmates went to small state schools and were turned down by schools that aren't even in the top 10, but got into USC. If you can pay they'll take you, and everyone knows the school so you can get a job with any company out there when you graduate. If you go to a smaller school often times you are limited to the smaller local companies that actively recruit there for your first job. I agree with DiffX's post above about quality of education not being necessarily better at one place over another, but that logic isn't going to help you get a job. It's all about percieved quality of your educaction, and to get that you need to go to a large recognizable school. Have you looked at Tulane?
I don't know how to look, hence this thread.
Go to the library, they keep all those college books(like that US News & World Report one) in the reference section. They'll give you all the details about ranking, along with stuff like the social aspects of the University and surrounding area. One critical stat is the male/female ratio, which is often given.Quote:

Ask them what they think about their engineering profs, workload, etc.
Third, find a program that gets you some real-world experience. Classroom learning is awesome. But to get a job, you will need experience. Find a program that does a good job of obtaining internships for their students. Some programs *require* internships...these are great programs b/c if they require it, then they help hook you up w/one and you're not left on your own to find one (which, let's face it, will be an afterthought).
Lastly, don't listen to TNL (wait, what?). Talk to the advisors at your CC but especially talk to someone at the schools you're looking at. Preferrably someone from w/in the department.
