However, I refuse to just accept your explanation that we should just shrug off the deaths of soldiers by simply saying; "Well, they knew the risks." So do policemen, but when one of them dies we all go apeshit and act surprised. Why? Because even if the danger of death is a part of one's occupation it doesn't mean they need to or should die.
I'm more than happy that our soldiers are motivated and want to fight, but we need to manage that enthuiasm better. The US Army is not an occupation force, that is not what it's designed for and that's why it isn't any good at it. We need new thinking in the military or better yet a more viable international solution to these 'nation-building' projects.
Perhaps there are aspects of it we can never understand, but to just say we're completely off-base because of the way we feel when we see the obvious effect shows you're blinded by your alligances and want nothing to do with a rational discussion.
