Also, puppy jump rope is awesome.
Edit: Nevermind. Seems (according to an incomplete gamefaqs list) that unlocking breeds is in a specific order. He hasn't finished the dachshund version list though. It's 10k points on the other version (boo!).
I linked up with two friends and unlocked dachshund and husky on my chicuahcuaha verison. Today I decided that I had enough money to buy my second puppy and got a tan dachshund. At first my yorkie was pissed but now they are friendly and happy! Having more than one puppy really makes you never have to worry about the "one walk every 30 min" thing.
Two things in the game have me stumped because there is nothing about them in the instruction book. #1 the territory marking pee-spots on the map and #2 you can feed your dog the light bulb when you teach them a trick.
I bet this game is selling great. My 16 year old sister bought it with her paycheck after she played my game and when my younger sister saw that she had nintendogs, she cried her eyes out til my mother took money out of her savings to get her a DS and nintendogs. More breeds for me :)
Curse you! I don't know anyone that has it, so I have to unlock them the tedious way.
Pee spots do nothing it seems, except make them sniff and maybe pee there again. If you don't pick up their shit, a neighbor will come yell at you (for repeat offenses). No idea about the lightbulb, that confuses me too.
and perkyskirt, now that you have two, go play jump rope! I'm serious, it's adorable and hilarious when they trip up.
Heheh, i'll try that out tonight. About the pee-spots-- did you notice right before you meet with another puppy at the "?" boxes, the closest pee-spot flashes? ??? Weird.

Has anyone noticed how sleeping works? Do the puppies get less hungry at night? I played with them til like 4am one night and the next day i woke up at 11 and they were both thirsty and hungry. I wonder how long they were like that :(:(

That's not really a mod, is it? I thought Miyamoto had his dog hump some bitch at E3...

Both of my huskies are absolutely terrified of the bark ball, and one barks and whines and runs around in terror when I play with bubbles. Strange, the caption for bubbles says that all breeds enjoy it. Guess my dog is a freak.Quote:

I played this at Best Buy and got hooked. DS purchase +1
i want one
Anyone have success getting a dog to do beg/stand? Mine won't learn it. It'll get it right three or four times, then just start giving me blue and red confusion question marks. I know about mirror tricks (they can learn the same trick on each side, left or right) so I've tried only teaching him one side over and over... He doesn't seem to want to learn it.
Xeno: Hah! My huskies and dachshund look retarded in the mario hat. Pirate hats, however, completely rock.I should try and get a picture of all three of them being sea-thieves.
That stylus is cool.
Yeah, I got a second puppy today (husky) and she looks awful with it on. But I love how it looks on my Shih Tzu. Now I've got to find one of those pirate hats.Quote:

Haven't been able to trump third in it yet. I also screwed up teaching some commands, so once in the championship for obedience, the thing always does beg instead of another command. Going to re-teach a few things.
And I finally figured out the blinking pee spots on walks. When you get into a '?' meeting with another dog and the pee spots blink blue, it's a territory thing. They mark their space and the dogs are far more likely to fight in these situations. Silly, huh?
My dogs are going to hate me :( I was working in another store yesterday and when I went back this morning before I came back to my store, I didn't grab the DS so they are gonna starve today...
Finally got a DS guys, should I get Nintendogs now or wait for the holiday edition? Is the holiday edition going to have new breeds?
The speculation I've seen about this "Holiday Edition" (has Nintendo even confirmed that it exists?) is that it's not a full version of the game, but rather an expansion pack that goes in the GBA slot and requires one of the existing versions to run.
Nintendo hasn't said anything about it, but it's on every major retailer's computer
Ok, I finally picked this up and I have a Shih Tzu named Rocco. I have a question: Is there a limit on how many dogs I can have? I'd like to have at least one of each breed.
Nope, you can only have eight at a time - three in your house and five at the dog hotel.
So I have to delete puppies I raised in order to get all the breeds "unlocked"?
Not to unlock them all, but to use them all. Just playing the game for a long time unlocks more breeds (as does barking with another player, but know you can only get one breed per user you bark with, so if you bark with somebody who has two breeds, make sure to have them send the one you want first).
That sucks, hopefully Nintendo releases a DS "ram cart" that could go in the GBA slot and let you do things like have 40 Nintendogs at once.....I want a giant collection of dogs
So you want to be a breeder? :)Quote:

It would be neat if the rumored holiday edition would allow you to store an additional few puppies or something to that extent. I have a husky I don't like very much, because she's lazy and sucks at everything but agility competitions, but there is something very grim about 'donating' a puppy. My husky may be a bit irritating and unresponsive, but I'd feel guilty getting rid of her.
Reminds me of that IGN article about the preview guy having to reset his game and deleting the dog.
There should be a "go out back with the shotgun" mode.
I'm still looking for a 2x4 so's I can train my pup proper.
Even the instruction manual is really upsetting about it, "DONATE: Choose this option when you want to part ways with your puppy. But remember, once you donate a puppy to the hotel, they will find a new trainer for it, and you'll never be able to see that puppy again."
Wtf??? I DEMAND a memory expansion!
Had a good day yesterday, found a Mario Kart RC Car, Mario "?" block, Camo frisbee & collar, and a Moai head (no Vic Viper, though) on my walks. The MK car is JAWSOME.
How many trainer points does it take to unlock a new breed?
I haven't found anything that cool yet, I got the ? block but nothing really happens when I throw it around. My Siberian Husky (named Jade) is wrecking shit in disc competitions, and I've barely trained her.
My dachshund fucking rocks the agility trial's face.
Nevermind on the trainer points question, I found my answer on gamefaqs. It looks like a new one's made available in the kennel for every 2,000 trainer points or so you earn.
Also, Jack Russell Terrier and Dalmatian are hidden breeds in the game. Finding a JRT Book and a Fireman Hat on your walk unlocks them, respectively.
My two largeer-breed dogs (Husky and shiba-inu) are great at the agility trials, but they have a tendency to make up their own mind and run to do a nearby jump or something despite me tapping like MAD to hit the slaloms, ect. Kind of annoying, hard to defend your title that way. My corgi, on the other hand, is more slow and thus he never runs off when he feels like it, so he's now a 2nd-time champion and going. He was faultless all the way through the classes :D
Haven't found any of the breed unlock items yet, and I'm still waiting for my boxer puppy. Just got the shelty, at 14k trainer points. I think the boxer is at 20 or something...
Nintendogs is racist.

Is that a photoshop or something? I've never had 'looted' come up before.
For the record, I find it hilarious that my boxer puppy is a total wuss. he's terrified of my corgi and shiba-inu, and almost all toys larger than a frisbee scare the living shit out of him.
Would it work to just get 8 puppies ASAP and then swap them out each day to max out trainer points? I've got 3 right now (Beagle, Husky and Shih Tzu) and I don't have the heart to ditch puppies so I'm saving spots for a Dalmation, Jack Russell, Boxer, Welsh Corgi, and a Chihuahua. I HATE that 8 dog limit
Has anybody found a Jack Russell book or the Fireman's Hat (Dalmatian?). Sort of wondering if it's 100% random, or only appears after so many trainer points. I've put in 25k so far, and haven't had either (I've had almost every other item, though).
I picked up "The Official Nintendogs Kennel Club Magazine" at Best Buy (it's a free giveaway), I was reading it and came across some stuff I didn't know about the game. The further away from your home you go, the more rare the items you find are, and the ONLY way to find the most rare items is to go far away from home. Also, after 3 days of not feeding your dogs you start losing your trainer points, which sort of pisses me off. Someday when I get bored with the game I want to be able to pull it out to show people my points, items, dogs, etc. and not have all the points be gone. I'm currently at 6,000 TP, at 6,000 I unlocked the "desktop", not sure what it is since the interior decorator is out renovating.
