I know how I put the weight on. You have to get a meal ticket to live on campus here, and all I do is study, soooo free meals + not being physically active = IP becomes fat.

lol, I'm like that too, Theif - (it's like my favorite hobby) I eat constantly, and I stay at 191/194 lbs. (5'10") I've got very little body fat. I'm 28 years old, btw, and I've been doing that since I was 13/14 years old. Everyone's telling that my wall is coming.
IP, I suggest a bit of running as well. 20 lbs should be a snap.

there aren't really best times in the day for exercise - but I recommend the morning because the energy level is there after a good nights sleep, and it kicks starts your overall energy level for the day. The key thing is to exercise at the SAME time every day, dont change it up from morning to evening, make it a part of a morning routine. i'd recommend simple jogging or treadmilling to start, get the endurance up. also, start drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day and stop drinking soda.
Use the stairs instead of the elevators when you get the choice. Its actually a preety good exercise (why do you think that they made stairmasters?)

I eat pretty good, and burn it all up quickly. Feeding me is a bitch and 1/2 on the wallet. :(
lift weight
Work out at least 3 times a week. I like to work out 4 to 5 times.
Cut out the big meals. Stil eat things you like but not as much...
Drink LOTS of water.
And stop getting on the scale checking your self everyday..
Dance
DDR is good too :)
And thats what I do often. Also push ups every day and situps every day at least 2 sets of 20....
I wish to see real pictures of the results of the DDR workout. otherwise, you can go eat a mooky stick if you think im playing some gay dancing games
DDR doesn't seem to burn shit calories unless you play like 30 9footers on nonstop.
Seriously? I thought eating threwout the day was a no no. I've been trying to shed a few pounds (maybe 5 or 10) and ive been trying to eat as few meals as I could. Damnit.Quote:

I wear size 34 pants, and I usually wear large shirts - medium shirts feel too small on me.Quote:

Anyway, a lot of good stuff has been said in between the insults. Let me add that I was pretty much in shidoshi's area - lucky if I was 120 in my teens and early twenties. I put on and maintained the weight I have by eating three meals a day (solid meals, not like, "OMG, A POTATO AND WATER!" and not a shitload of food). If you eat too little and not often enough, like was said, your body goes crazy. If you eat too much, you're just taking in calories you don't need.
Now that you're getting older, ask your physician to recommend someone that can suggest dietary choices and make sure you're getting the right nutrients. Then, maybe, join a gym or something. I'm a good weight now, but I'm not strong or fit, so I joined the local gym to improve both of those conditions.
Good luck.
I'm 34 waist and, depending on the manufacturer of the slacks, 34 or 32 inseam. However, large shirts are way too long for me. Medium shirts are just right. :)Quote:

Ironplant, the first thing you need to get rid of is empty calories such as soda etc. If you switch to diet soda, after a couple of weeks you will think regular soda tastes nasty. Does your college offer workout classes? My favorite is spin class (the one with the bikes) it burns TONS of calories and is lots of fun. On the plus for you, spin class usually has lots of girls in it who are usually in good shape. Pilates is another good one; it's another chick magnet. To acheive weight loss you are going to have to workout at least 5 days a week. Stop eating out, those are the worst meals ever for weight loss. Buy yourself a cookbook and start cooking your own meals, then you can control the calorie and fat content.
I LOVE spin class. That shit kicks ass. We do it in the Base gym spinning room with the huge projector playing a clip of people biking uphill or on roads.
..and true about the girls in spin class..hehhehheh
Contrary to popular belief, switching from regular soda to diet soda isn't beneficial to losing weight. It has less calories and less sugar, but the fact that it uses fake sugar and a hell of a lot more preservatives and false additives negates the fewer calories and sugar. If you're going to lose weight, just don't drink any soda AT ALL. Even shit like Sierra Mist Free.Quote:

But I have a girlfriend and Im getting sex regularly, and I dont have time to actually go to the gym without sacrificing schoolwork or Rome: Total War time, so I dont really give a fuck. But yea, if I was single Id be freaking out. But I guess if I was single I wouldnt be drinking beer and partying as much. Thats college for you. But Im looking forward to going back to the gym and running. Around my house has nice, gradual hills that should be a good workout to run around.
if you can tell people how to do this when they live in a dorm that serves food and has absolutely NO access to a kitchen, then you deserve a Nobel Prize. This is bad advice.Quote:

Same with sethsez (although not AS bad). Its nearly impossible to eat 5 small meals in college because the meal times are set, and most of the time they dont let you bring food out of the dorm.
Honestly, I dont see how anyone can not gain weight in college. Its really really hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle and still succeed in your classes, especially if your major is not trivial. Im not saying that as a cop-out, its just reality. You see shows from schools like University of Central Florida and shit and everyone is gorgeous; because that school takes everyone and the classes are easy so they can just hit the gym. Not so for a tough school and a tough major.
So my advice, IP, is to run 3 times a week, gradually increasing your distance, and put down the french fries and pick up the salads in the cafeteria. DDR is also really good if you have access to it. Try the best you can to keep a consistent running schedule, but if you cant make it one day, because, like, you got a midterm the next day and really cant study, then just dont worry about it. If you do then you get all this pressure to "catch up" in your head and it wears on you.
How much water would you say is too much? I drink about 8-10 large glasses a day, that to me seems normal.Quote:

Then maybe at 9 or so, I *might* have a snack.
I never gain weight and I'm always the same. I'm not fat, but I'm not fit either. I'm 5'11 and about 175 pounds.
I think if I ate more little meals I would lose some weight because I honestly don't eat that much when I think about how much other people eat. I think my body has gotten into an odd state where I eat at pretty much the right times so it always functions nicely without gaining or losing any weight.
If you have a swimming pool near you, you should definitely take advantage of it. Swimming is one of the best exercises you can do because it's like doing cardio and strength training at the same time without causing any stress on your joints. You can get a good workout in 30 minutes. The best time to go would be early morning, because that's when the pool is at its cleanest (assuming that the pool is cleaned every night).
Thats the recommended amount.Quote:

Beyond this, exercise when you're comfortable with doing so. I've tried it at various times during the day and have found that midafternoon (3 or so) is best for me. It's a good pick me up as the day drags on. You should probably start out with cardio, anything you enjoy doing, and some light weights with high reps. I can give you any number of basic routines if you want me too.

As long as you're doing your stroke correctly, you cannot get hurt (your body is working against itself...it's not pushing against anything). The only people who do get hurt swimming have shoulder problems b/c they're using their hands/arms incorrectly.
2) Total body workout. Plenty of over-pumped liars say their machine will do what no other machine does and give you a total body workout. Bull. Swimming works both sides of your body equally, so you don't rely on your dominant side. Also, it focuses on the most important muscle groups (if you're looking to look good naked) - back, torso, abs, shoulders, triceps. Your chest and biceps will never be huge but you will be lean and cut.
3) It's clean. Although you sweat in the pool (make sure to drink during a workout), you don't get all sweaty and gross. May not seem like a big deal to those of us who like to know we're working hard but I love getting out of the pool, grabbing a shower and knowing that I'm one clean SOB.
4) It's the best all-around sport for fitness. Not only can you do it your entire life but you improve your flexibility and agility. Pumping iron is great if you want to look like Arnie or be super-strong. I'd take a swimmer 6 days a week and twice on Sundays over some guy who can bench 350, if we're going to measure overall athletic ability. Swimming won't turn you into someone who benches 300 but you will have insane endurance and equally incredible flexibility/agility. I think these qualities are more impressive than brute strength and I also think they are, for lack of a better term, sexier qualities.
IP, if you are going to start swimming, I'd be happy to give you some pointers/workouts.
Protip: Don't treat swimming like running. Do sets, don't try to just swim for a mile.

All four of these things become pretty much lofty, unattainable goals once you start college full-time. Especially if you have any social life whatsoever.Quote:
So what you are really trying to say is...
I speak from experience. I tried to do a 5 day a week workout routine in college, but as soon as midterms started popping up, forget it! Its just not possible. I suppose if youre studying sociology or communications or some BS like that then its possible, but not a hard, physical/life-sciences type major unless you need to study only an hour a day (and I went to a top school and never met anyone like this) or you really dont care about sleep.
So my advice is to simply eat in moderation and run a little. Another good thing would be to take a fitness class (the gyms at most school universities offer them, for like $30 you can take tennis or whatever) and just do something you enjoy doing. Then take it a step farther, join a club where you can do that regularly. Youd see the pounds drop before you know it, and it would actually work with your rigorous college schedule.
But dont sacrifice enjoyment of your college years for it. Like I said Id gladly take all the fun and debauchery I had even if it means coming out 10 pounds heavier. My girlfriend wanted to do irish car bombs a few nights ago, even though it pretty much destroyed my caloric intake for the day. But so what? I have the rest of my life to be a fidgety prune.
Diff you are like fucking yoda when you get sex. You're all helpful and shit.
I lived in the dorms for 3 years and had no problems cooking. I also did not have a kitchen. I had a crockpot, a George Forman Grill, one of those portable burners and a microwave. I made kick-ass healthy meals all the time, it's not that hard it just takes some extra effort. It is not bad advice Mr. Poopypants!Quote:
