God of War Official Thread

I hear what you are saying NeoZ but I think it is a double edged sword. On one hand you are totally correct, but on the other I think when games get to the point where I have to go to a drug store for antibiotics instead of bashing opened a garbage can for health it will be too much.

I know that is extreme but I think they really need to watch how they handle this in gaming so they don't alienate the "game" part of it.

I agree that realism can be bad if it interferes with enjoyment and I think it's a balancing act for designers. It depends on the type of game too. I think a good example is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time where you drink from fountains to replenish health. It fits with the environment well and doesn't feel out of place.

Agreed, it even added to the game that it fit so well.

Why is that? Because he didn't use his thumbs? I still don't ever use them except for XBOX gaming and I've been playing games for damn near as long as you've been alive.

It has nothing to do with what fingers he uses. I could care less. My point is that he is apparently having trouble hitting two action buttons that are right next to each other. A set up that has been in use for about...oh I don't know, about as long as I've been alive? I hope the controls in Double Dragon didn't fuck him up too.

Interesting point. I definitely didn't feel this way about the game but I had a similar feeling about another one.

Metroid Prime.

The way Metroid games work, and Prime in particular with the non-FPS controls and meticulously detailed world really put me in the mindset of an explorer. And because of that for the first time ever in a game I felt guilty about killing every little critter I came across - which of course Prime encourages.

The "complaint" only comes about because I found the game otherwise so perfect and rather than focusing on game play stuff my mind turned to the fictional game world itself. Suddenly something I had accepted for all my years of game playing just seemed unnatural.

Sounds like a similar thing is happening to you for God of War.
