Do you mean you want unlimited continues? Or straight up balls to the wall limited continues that makes you fucking know the game like your own dick? (a.k.a. the way it should be)Quote:

Agreed. I think it somewhat defeates the purpose of it being a port of an Arcade game. Something like Ikaruga or Mars Matrix would be cool, with points that can buy items or special features, including continues.Quote:

So, no, I don't want unlimited continues so I can blaze through the game four times and say "ZOMG I BEAT IT FOUR TIMES N00B!!!!!1111forty-five11" I want the unlimited continues that don't start me at the beginning of the level so I can screw around with the game when I'm not going for high scores. To this day, I still can't get through that last level on MS3 thanks to that shitty continue system. That last boss requires way more than the one credit I have left when I get up to it.
Stop putting "S'" in front of words that don't need it. Just because you have a lisp IRL does not mean it should be reflected in your writing.
I don't. I just think it looks funny.Quote:

Man, Jeremy is excited about a game. Damn.
It's not a lisp, it's an improper contraction of "It's" + the following word. It's like writing in a dialect.Quote:

Meh. I like the Ghouls N Ghosts type of continues, unlimited but sends you back to the beginning of the level. It keeps you honest. I wouldn't have a problem with a code that lets you have unlimited continues like the arcade, though.
Definitely picking this up for PS2 this summer.
Yeah, but the MS series was not designed with that system in mind. It was intended to be a continue where you died system, so changing that breaks the game.Quote:

It lacked any sort of creativity or excitement. Not to mention it was also shorter than most of the rest. They took out Marco and Eri (For some unknown reason) and stuck us with 2 characters we cared nothing about.Quote:

For me, MS5 brought back a lot of what I loved about 3. Frenetic periods of a billion guys rushing out to hit you, cool vehicles, a new slide function, and a decent final mission. They also overhauled the animation and music (which was comparitivly much better than 3's) Some say it was too easy, and compared to 3, most likely, but that doesn't taint 5 for me in any way.
I wonder if they'll finally put co-op Live play.
I'm getting it on the Xbox regardless.

They break those and the roms are gonna become majorly popular.
4 was shit. Not THA shit, but shit. I've been quite vocal in my MS4 hate here.Quote:

Never played it on Xbox. How is it broken, Johnny boy?Quote:

You have to start the level over? That's nuts.
I totally agree. I don't think it's even humanly possible to get to the end of level 5 on 3 lives.Quote:

I agree with all of the comments about the continues. I had a hell of a time beating Slug 3 on the Box, and I'm actually really good at Metal Slug 3 after playing it over the years, but I also see the point about how it makes you truly master the game.
I seriously think it took me longer to finish this than anything I've played lately. Level 3 and Level 5 sucked. Ask G0zen, he witnessed level 3 owning my monkey ass.
Limited continues I can live with, but there needs to be NO FUCKING RESTARTS. Final answer. I'm waiting to see what is said here once the US version hits before I make a purchase. If this problem rears its head one more time, I'm off to get the Japanese version of 5.
Its not THAT hard to finish SLug 3 on the xbox, since you can have more than the three lives - just join in on controller 2 once all of player one's lives run out. Its like having an extra continue right there. But yea i do agree they need to fix this with 4 and 5 or at least give you an option after you finish the game once.
Im about to dl the ms3 rom for xbox even though i bought the retail game cause i dont feel like playing it super hardcore everytime. Not to mention that the system kills any kind of fun in a 2 player co op game if you have a partner who isnt a metal slug super nerd.
Yeah they should at the VERY least, put in a check point. Somewhere half way through the level. That would eliviate some of the pain. And maybe two checkpoints on the final level since they are like 3 levels in one. But nothing more, NO NO NO unlimited continues options.
I think it needs unlimited continues since that how the game was designed...but in the arcade you lost $0.25 every time you continued so you still gave it your all to master the game instead of just barging forward. The Xbox version should have unlimited continues, be hooked up to Live, and charge your credit card $0.25 every time you continue. :D
The scary thing is a tiny part of me thinks that might work. :bang:
they should have put an option in
for arcade mode or Xbox mode
then I would have bought the game with it how it is fuck that
I'm sorry but I don't feel the need to master every single fucking game I play, the MS series for me, has always been about mindless shooting jumping and killing and thats what I LOVE about the series
that i can just keep going on and enjoying myself and having a good time with out thinking
not having to memorize enemy patterns and other shit
if I want that I have a large library of shooters for it
leave my MS games how they are
I think unlimited continues should be an option you can select, and if you do allow them on they should dump you where you died. I think the most important thing that should go with it is that once you die on your first credit your score stops increasing.
As soon as I use a continue my enjoyment of the game normally gets fractionized....

so it's quite easy for people who know the games to know when some one posts a score that was using continues and is a much better system then whay they did to MS3
This comes out today. Anyone else picking it up? For 40 bucks for two Slug games, it ain't too bad a deal.
Oh and MS3 rom will not work on standard modded Xbox cause of the limited ram. Get the greatest hits import PS2 version, it's near perfect.
ssb
You mean the version we were supposed to get if not for Sony being total dicks about it and SNK being big pussies?
Wait...the ps2 version is the only one out today? Im seeing the xbox version due for august. Why would it take that long to bring it to xbox?
Uh, it works on mine. All of them do.Quote:

Xbox Live support, obviously... it takes forever to program your xbox to think it's online! :)Quote:

We can finally breathe a sigh of relief that Sony of America didn't screw us out of ANOTHER USA PS2 Metal Slug game -_- (cough HACK USA PS2 Metal Slug 3 HACK)
Now if SNK Playmore can do a ps2 port of Metal Slug 2/X, they can double that up with PS2 Metal Slug 3 and bring it to the USA ;-) (Sony of America loves double packs with 2D games)
Got my copy, and continues are unlimited (or at least seem to be). They also drop you right back into the action, something I think Xbox MS3 didn't do...
And after finally playing 4 and 5, I can see how they get written off as the worst of the series...but they're still pretty enjoyable...just not as humorous and also lacking in some way I can't put my finger on...

which for some people who love uber challanges that's fine, for me I never played the Slug games for a challange, I played them for mindless fun, sort of like reading the comics in the newspaper instead of reading shakespear, whne I want to read something that makes me think I'll read Shakespear, when I want to read something stupid and mindless I'll read the comics or IGN, and thusly when I want a challange I have other games I go to, when I want mindless fun I went to the Slug series, but they changed that in the Xbox release of 3 thus ruining the fun of the game for me, now if they had made it an option like Arcade Style and Xbox style I wouldn't have cared but they didn't

It'll happen at some point. Until then, SNK will do the same thing Sega, Atari, Namco, and every other old school videogame company does... re-release their old compilations with a few more games with each console generation.Quote:

Limited continues would be fine if done similarly to Border Down & Time Crisis 3 where you earn more with extended play time.
Ok this collection officially rocks and looks mighty fine on RGB. Even 4 isn't that bad when playing with a friend, but 5 is pretty fun, easier that most Slug games, but has some cool new vehicles.
Neither come close to Slug 1 or 3, but well worth the 40 bucks.
ssb
When you continue it adds 1 to the end of your score I think.
This came out for xbox last week if anyone cares. I picked it up. Waited for the xbox version because I cant stand the ps2 controller and its d-pad. Both games are great slug fun, 4 isnt as bad as i remember and seems more action packed that 5, and 5 does some interesting and different things with the series, but in the end Metal Slug 1 is still the best in the series. Pick it up if you havent already and support your 2d goodness.
Looking at the ads in the back of the instruction booklet, looks like theres quite a few SNK games coming out for xbox and they are all on live which is just awesome. If you would have told me 2 years ago that xbox would be the biggest supporter of SNK online games, I would never have believed you.
What are some of the games listed on the back of the manual?
Samsho V, KOF Neowave, KOF '94 ReBout
I just beat 5 again. Love that game.
