PSOne games that hold up well graphically.
Recently I had the urge to give Metal Gear Solid another playthrough. I haven't played it since it originally came out, so I was interested in seeing how it holds up.
Not well. Some parts look okay, but once the cinematics start it all goes to crap. It certianly didn't match how I remembered it.
This got me interested in what, if any, PS games have managed to age gracefully. Here are a few I found that actually still look presentable.
Crash Bandicoot 2: This game actually still looks impressive. The art style isn't compromised at all by the engine, textures are relatively detailed and don't warp, there's no pop-up, and it all holds together without looking like the entire world is falling apart at the seams (like the original Wipeout... now there's a game that doesn't hold up. Speaking of which...).
Wipeout 3: I don't like this game. The gameplay is pleasant enough but less interesting than either the original or XL, the track designs are completely average, and the visual design is probably the blandest I've ever seen in a futuristic racer. With all of that said, the engine is very respectable and is definitely solid considering the speed everything moves at. Widescreen mode also helps this a lot for me.
I'm not saying these games in any way compare to anything on current systems, I'm just saying they've aged gracefully (unlike most PS games that have crazy grey hair, fake teeth and a walker). So what other PS games do you think have aged well? Or games you though looked great but look like shit now.
