Heavy mod to one of those Namco TV pacman games

Thought you guys might be interested in this. I got my mom one of those TV plug n' play games (contains Ms.Pacman, Mappy, Gallaga, etc in one joystick). The emulation was fine, but the plastic joystick it came in was horrible, making the games almost unplayable.

So I made a new joystick out of some poplar wood and a Happ joystick I had laying around and stuffed the game in that. I traced some Pac-art in Illustrator and took it to Kinkos for printing on vinyl. The plexiglass covering the vinyl cracked a bit...but oh well. Check it out. It works great. I reccomend trying this out if any of you are so inclined.

That rocks. I have two of those C64 joystick games I've meant to mod to hook a keyboard and C64 disk drive up to, but I've never got around to it, other projects keep getting in the way. This certainly is a lot more attractive for long term play than those tiny sticks that originally house these games.

Also, I told my mom and dad recently about how one of my earliest memories was my dad playing a Pac Man cab at a lozal pizza parlor here. I can remember the little Inky, Blinky ect. cartoon cinemas as he played and I looked over my mom's shoulder as a little toddler wishing I could get my grubby little mitts on that machine. My mom and dad were floored I remember that and confirmed they had played that machine before when I was a 2 year old.

Early this month I bought the Pac Man, Dig Dug ect. stick which I like a lot, but yeah I find myself wobbling the stick with my palm more than grasping it arcade style. I currently am borrowing the Ms. Pac Man, Mapp, Pole Position ect stick from a friend which isn't perfect either but the case is constructed much better (the Pac Man and Dig Dug stick case feels cheap and hollow). In other words, I love them JAKK TV sticks.

Where'd you learn to handle electronics like that, Cheebs? I've always wanted to know how to do shit like that and the other threads you and others have posted of your accomplishments.

She likes it much better now that she can steer pacman around. :D

I kinda' like it myself. I've got a large Pelican PS joystick that I put Happ parts in...I'm thinking of adding a selector switch and a few of these game boards to it.

All I've learned is from http://www.gamesx.com and from messing around on my own (many electronic devices have paid for my education with their lives :) ).

Cool stuff. I saw one that someone made into a mini arcade cab with a small TV and all.

Cheebs I hope I have a kid like you. :)

Yeah, that's insanely cool man. Much better than the actual stick even though I absolutely love those little JAKKS systems. The Ms. Pac Man one is the best too. Only game on it that sucks is Mappy.

I now know not to buy anyone those Namco TV games now too.
