Lumines: Score Attack 3/27/05

PSP score attack, bitches! Lumines and Ridge Racers have been my primary focus these past four days, and it's time to get the competetive juices flowing. Since the Lumines score ranking in the game is kinda lax, I assume we can only compete within a "Top 5" type of thing, so here are my top 5.

1) 88567 - Nick (Edit: I don't know if this is considered cheating or not, but I got this outrageously good score today from playing Single Skin Mode. Don't really know if that counts or not.)

I've unlocked 11 skins so far. Shit gets hard after level 35.

I ragged on Lumines before, but I'm pretty damn good at the game (had the game since December) and I understand the scoring system pretty well. When I have some time I'll post my scoring strategies and my high scores.

PS. It would be fair to restrict the score ranking competition to Challenge Mode and leave Single-Skin Mode out of it, since the timeline (line that passes horizontally across the playfield) affects the game's challenge. For instance, it's easier to rack up points in a skin with a slow-moving timeline like 'I Hear the Music..' than you could in one with a fast timeline like 'Strangers.'

I love this game...yet hate it at the same time!! I THINK I'm good, then it turns insanely difficult for me. I can't get passed "I hear the Music.." stage (I think its 36 or 32). Anyways, I think I'm good enough for 5th place so far...my highest score is 56,881 :)
I have 12 skins so far (I just unlocked "Rodent").

My highest score so far is 109,531.

I've gotten 15 skins in challenge, and 4 in vs CPU.

Edit: 115,686. Just recently the got 10 hour skin, "Rodent".

Alright, here's everything I know about Lumines, particularly Challenge Mode:

To clear a skin or stage in Challenge, you have to pass 4 or 5 levels. Skins 1-15 require you to clear 4 levels to progress to another skin, 16-24 require 5 levels. Here's a breakdown of the # of deleted squares (2x2 blocks of the same color) needed to increase a level:

Those numbers double when you loop the game, but the level #s are the same for each skin.

After you loop the game twice, you play in the Square Dance skin indefinitely, until you lose. I'm not sure how many squares are needed to progress a level in the third run of Square Dance.


Here's a list of known unlockable skins in Lumines. It's rumored that there are a total of 50 skins in the US version (11 more than the Japanese version) but there's no evidence of that yet.
