16.38 for me but my cpu (Opteron 165) and exact videocard (I have the 512mb version of the X1800XT) are not listed. I picked the lowest Athlon X2 cpu and the 256mb version of the x1800xt. The beta demo will be out in a couple of days so we'll see how our rigs fare.

The game doesn't exactly run well for me but thats at maxed out settings with AF..etc (1280x720) res. It does have its moments of smoothness (30+ fps) That Shangri-La (whatever the name is) stage is the worst in terms of performance while that huge city with that big tripod enemy actually ran well most of the time. The visual settings menu is pretty barebones too. I suppose I can lower a few things here and there but I plan on upgrading my card in november when Nvidia and ATI release all their new performance mid-range DX10 cards. I'll probably avoid the game until I upgrade my videocard.

So what's this crap I read in EGM about them building in something to protect against copyright-infringing user-created content? That sounds like some lame shit; if I can't get a Boba Fett skin, what's the point?
I was afraid of this... The game runs great on my machine, but there's nothing really that compelling about it. I'm sure UT 99 people will be happy with the way it moves and newbies will love the Gears of War graphics, but I'm not jumping up and down here. I'm sure there will be a couple fun new maps to play in it, but the whole thing feels too familiar....

It's so beautiful. Really feels like UT99, really the only UT I played. I love it. I think I'm buying it not only because of the game itself, but also the potential for mods on the platform. Remembering all the sweet mods in UT99 (Infiltration, ChaosUT, Strike Force, more that I can't remember) makes me think of the potential of this. And I'll probably have a new video card by then, so it'll be even sweeter.
I was kind of expecting a prettier UT2004 without many core changes. Sounds good.
I'm installing this right now.

This game runs incredibly smooth. Cranked everything up and no chugging whatsoever.
The game itself is like I'm back playing the original UT. I tried 03 and 04 but didn't exactly love them. This turned from a passing interest to a definite purchase for me.
I'll play with anyone online later, should be on Xfire as well.
Well, for some reason it is crashing on me whenever I try to join an online game.
Guess I need to go scour the forums for a solution.
Its their(epic's) end, not yours. Their servers are all messed up for some reason.

This game runs fantastic for me except for my video card being a faulty piece of shit. The picture below is just a small example of the graphical weirdness that occurs because of my card. Other stuff I can't grab in a picture because they only happen during motion, such as lines extending from pretty much everywhere making the background look like a spider web.

From the first day I picked up UT99 all I ever played was sniper arena. No better way to play the game, and it really helps improve your accuracy. Also had some of the best communities in UT99. I was so upset when they screwed up the sniper rifle in UT2K4. Just didn't feel the same. Now things seem to be back on track.Quote:

My card has been fucked up since the day I got it but haven't found a reason to go ahead and get a new one. UT3/Crysis will be what pushes me to get one, but until then I can deal with playing with crazy graphical glitches so long as my system is still running the game as smoothly as it has.

I know its the same old UT formula but I love it. Only problem I have with it is the vehicle control, but aside from that the game is sweet as fuck. I got a 17-18 on that website yet i'm running everything full with no slowdown at all. Definitely a day 1 purchase.
I upgraded my video drivers and am able to play it okay now (although it still looks smeared in vaseline, but I'm attributing that to the fact I can't play at my monitors native res)

Has anyone been following the release of the 8800GT from nvidia?
It's supposed to be out within the week, and is already boasting speeds faster than the 8800GTS and almost equal to the GTX, and has a MSRP for under $250.
Oh and it uses significantly less power. I'm definitely putting on in my next rig. Should coincide nicely with UT3.
I saw it mentioned in a Gamespot news real the other day.
It's hard to judge how it's going to do until it's actually out and available to test, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on it because of the proposed price/power.

The PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has gone gold! We got news last night that Unreal Tournament 3 has been approved by SCEA and has been released to North American manufacturing.
Midway has started talking to retailers to figure out exact timing and they will have a formal announcement early next week when everyone is back from the Thanksgiving holiday. My guess is that Midway will start shipping the title to North American retailers on Monday December 10th and it could show up in stores as early as December 11th but more likely toward the middle of that week.
I think PS3 owners are going to really enjoy UT3 this holiday so make sure you get it on your shopping list!
For PAL territories, specifically UK and Europe, we have a few localization-related tasks to complete and then we should be starting the certification process pretty soon. My best guess is early next year (January or February) for the game to ship over there.

Yeah, I play 98% of games on a console, but if there's one game I absolutely refuse to play on anything other than a PC it's Unreal Tournament. This games release will inspire me to upgrade my videocard.
Might import but probably not, there's just too many games/shooters =/

It was a tough call for Call of Duty 4, but PC won out on that as well and I don't regret it (sucks not playing TNL people but saving 20 bucks and having the machine to rock it made it too tempting.) Speaking of PC FPS, I'm busy enough with Crysis and CoD 4 to happily ignore this for a little while.
It's a shame how little attention Crysis is getting (on TNL, at least). Its campaign kicks the shit out of Halo 3, IMO. And the multiplayer is surprisingly good as well.

Harsh words. I didn't care for the demo myself. It was too much like previous UTs that I had already played to death. I also thought it was pretty darn ugly even with max settings.
It really seems like the focus of this game was more about the engine than the content.
I'll pass for now. Might pick it up for $20 or something in months to come.

All I see here is a company trying to show off a new engine and cash in on the nostalgic '99 fans like me while also trying to keep from ruffling the feathers of the remaining 2004 community.
Where is the innovation we saw in UT 2004 (the "second" UT, according to them)? From what I've seen, the only thing that even comes close to innovation here are some of the new vehicles. I hear they make the old vehicles that stuck around look downright dull in comparison.
Maybe the mod community can save their ass, but until that starts to happen, I won't be buying this.

Well VCTF and Warfare, while hybrid modes of old concepts, still feel different from anything in 2004, and the Necris vehicles are a trip. Hoverboarding is awesome too once you get a feel for it. I certainly don't find myself hankering for 2004 Onslaught at this point.
It's true that the regular deathmatching is pretty much the same as ever except for some interesting map variety and balance tweaks. I'm just not sure throwing out everyone's favorite weapons for new ones would have made people any happier.

Some are balanced for different modes, but there's some cool shit in there. Like Heat Ray is obviously horribly unbalanced for Duels or FFA Deathmatch, but it's fucking badass for team play. Meanwhile Gateway is pretty eh for TDM and Duels, but it's a lot of fun in FFA Deathmatch. Rising Sun kicks ass for Duels, but you can't really play it with a lot of players. It's got a half dozen CTF maps with some pretty good variety. Vertebrae is fucking badass and my new favorite CTF map in the series. Considering TF2 only has 6 maps total, there's still plenty of fun to be had here.Quote:

Seriously though, I wish they would just focus on what made UT '99 so great:
1) map design
2) exciting, new weapons
Given all the positive response to the Necris vehicles, I don't see why they didn't just go all out and make Necris weapons to boot.
The staple UT weapons are just boring as shit, at this point.
6 CTF maps is a bullshit number, by the way. I believe UT '99 shipped with at least 10 or 15 maps per mode.
UT 99 came out in 1999, though. I'm sure you've noticed every multiplayer FPS on the market has fewer maps these days. It's a lot more expensive and time consuming to make a map in 2007 than it was 8 years earlier.
Necris weapons would have been cool, but unlike vehicles, if you have too many weapons it can be a mess in terms of interface, and I think they didn't want to have to cut any old favorites.
So why, then, did Enemy Territory: Quake Wars come with double the maps of its predecessor (6 vs. 12), in spite of the fact that the new maps are bigger and prettier than anything in the first Enemy Territory?
