I wish they remade lava giant, that map was awesome.
Best part of Lava Giant:
grab a shield belt, armor pads, a sniper rifle, and anti-grav boots. Jump up on top of the Volcano. Snipe away while people wonder where the hell you're shooting them from.
Fuck, now I want to go reinstall '99 and see if there are still any good servers up.
99 doesn't run properly on my machine, it skips ahead and shit. apparently they patched regular unreal to fix this, but not UT. :(
Unreal Anthology has versions of the old games that work well on newer systems/OSes
Are there really any favorities at this point though? I've played all these weapons to death, and don't want to use any of them anymore. I find it hard to think that fans of the series don't feel the same. Hoverboards are a nice addition, but not enough to sell me on the game. I'm sure mods will cure a lot of ills, but I'll just play something else.
Yeah, I think there would be a lot of backlash if they messed with the existing weapons too much. It's a well balanced selection and they're still very different from the weapons in other FPS. A lot of them have been tweaked in interesting ways that might not be immediately apparent, too.
VCTF was added with one of the patches for UT 2004. It started off as a mod.
I'm maybe a lil bit nostalgic when it comes to UT's "art", but at least it was its own beast, and not some shoddy rip-off of a console game. The music in the old games was ALOT better too.
Warfare is easily the best part of the game and the only part that I wasn't completely disappointed by, but still, it was very underwhelming...
That is fucking retarded, Frog. Map makers will save this fucking game and give me a reason to re-install it. I'm pretty sure none of these map and mod makers are on Epics payroll. If anything, it gets easier and easier to make maps as the years go on.. Also, UT3's maps are COMPLETELY uninspired.
Yes I'm sure you'll bring up TF2 and its 6 maps AGAIN, but there are other games, like COD 4 , that come out with lots of maps.
Epic got lazy and they know that the community will make the maps for them. Also, I'm sure they won't mind making a lil extra coin on the console side of things and release maps as bonus packs on Live.
So I reinstalled this when I got my 8800gt and can run it all at the highest settings with a silky smooth framerate.
Still not a whole lot of people playing though :(
You have no idea what you're talking about. Again, look at EVERY multiplayer FPS on the market. Name one from this gen that has anywhere near as many maps as UT3.
You say this, but I don't think you know what you're talking about. There are traditional maps, but also a lot of more experimental ones with some neat gimmicks and it has better map variety than 2K4 in some ways. I think you played this game for like 30 minutes or something.Quote:
Also, UT3's maps are COMPLETELY uninspired.
Except CoD4 still has less than half as many maps as UT3
I don't know anything about UT3's maps, but CoD4's maps are ripped directly from the single player game.
Other way around in UT3. The single player campaign recycles maps from the multiplayer.
Also, change your avatar. Gay Papa has been freed.
True story. Will do when I get the chance.
One of the CTF maps is fucking awesome. Might be the one Frog mentioned. Its kinda like your inside 2 towers joined at the base and the flags are at the top of each side. Its really translocator intensive, which makes it feel fresher than any map I've played in along time. Very good for instagib CTF too.
Yeah, that's Vertebrae. Lots of fun vertical antics in that level.
God, Frog made me reinstall this game and I'm...I'm....GASP ! Having some fun with it :) Did the patch fix the net code at all ? I'll play some games if anyone is around. :)
I've just got a pirate copy at the moment so i'm limited to LANs, but i think i might buy it this week. Definitely would be up for some UT, particularly Vertebrae.
3 new maps were just released for PC and PS3. Free, like they should be.http://www.beyondunreal.com/Quote:
This Bonus Pack includes 3 new maps. Morbias is the deathmatch arena that started it all, perfectly suited for anything from small intense duels to chaotic free-for-all matches. The Unreal Tournament classic, Facing Worlds was one of the most played maps in gaming history. This beloved sniper map makes its return alongside an intricate new capture the flag map, Searchlight, designed for both z-axis rooftop runs and strategic indoor gameplay. Returning classics and fresh new designs let you experience Unreal gaming like never before.
PC UT3 goes for like $25 these days.
That's a lot closer to the price level I've been waiting for. Might have to check it out this weekend.
There are instagib servers. Instagib rifle > sniper IMO
Hardly.
The sniper rifle makes you work for your one-hit kill (), while the 'gib rifle makes it all too easy to just kill-a-man.
(There might be sniper servers too, I haven't bothered to check)
I think I may cave and get the Steam pack they have out. I have UT99 and UT2K4 already, but for that price, how can you complain when getting Unreal and Unreal II as well. Hell if I get it, I may be up for some games tonight... if it can dl fast enough.
log in to xfire if you do.. i'll play some facing worlds.
9% to go. Who is up for some games in an hour or so?
I can't right now, but add me to your friends list (Frogacuda). I'd like to get back into this, maybe over the weekend.
Finally got this bad boy installed with the new maps. Let's all play this weekend.
I am up for it as well.
Ordered this with expedited shipping off the Amazon marketplace for $30.
We'll see if it gets here on Saturday.
Awesome. A weekend of UT3 it is then. Just need to find some good sniper maps. Instagib if all else fails.
I forgot all about the onslought.warfare mode in this game. Actually a pretty fun mode to play. I also noticed that campaign can be played with friends. Anyone wanna give this a go, or just get a warfare team going? Not nearly as much fun when playing randoms.
I'm down for playin' some. I'm a sucker for Facing worsldd and am happy its on UT3. I still prefer the Face in 04 but its a nice addition that reminds me of the Epic that once was before their success with Microsoft (sigh).
Post office is closed tomorrow for floor waxing, so no UT until next week.
I already have most of the games that come with the Unreal package, so I figured I'd just rather save the $30 and wait the extra day or two.
I'm down for UT '99, though.
I'm down for UT99 whenever I'm around... pretty busy this weekend though. Play some vanilla DM or CTF, fuck snipe.
I'm down for whatever.. I'd rather play some mixed, snipe and IG gets a bit old. Set up a UT3 server, use the replace weapons mutator and throw in all snipers.
I wasn't being serious. We can play whatever. wEEman and I just wasted most of our highschool years playing sniper arena. The other half was wasted player Wolf:ET.
OH, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to getting the UT3 map editor. I made a decent UT2k4 map back in the day, and it was fun making, albeit a bit tedious. I got UT3 off of Steam and there doesn't seem to be a map editor with it and I've been unlucky finding it by googling. Anyone know a good place to get it?
There is a map editor in the Steam version. You just have to start it with a command line thingy.Quote:
To launch the editor for UT 3 at this time you need to right click on the game > Properties > Set Launch Options > add the word "editor" without quotes.
Alternativly, if you have set a shortcut to your desktop, you can add the following "-editor" without quotes.
Quick question guys, I tried to reinstall UT99 but my framerates go insane. I can't seem to cap them. I installed the patch and such but it still goes nuts. I got a GeForce 7950 if that helps. Any help would be appreciated.
Hmm tough to say. My version off Steam runs fine, however I did have a problem when first reinstalling the disc based version about 2 years back on my current rig. For some reason the game speed was set way too high and everything felt uber turbo. That may be one thing you want to check, but other than that, I'd say keep trying to mess with the settings, and if all else fails, reinstall again and make sure you select the right audio and graphics settings it gives you options for the first time you run it.
try running it in OGL instead of D3D.. I've had it happen before, but I don't remember what the fix is.
Just buy Anthology or get it off steam. The modern versions work great. EB was giving Anthology away with UT3 for a while, but I don't know if they still are.
Got the game installed. Just need to get the patch and map pack and I'll be good to go.
Anyone up for some PC games?
Internet Hearts, I am in
Microsoft to milk gamers dry once again. Mark Rein hints at "gears of war 2" surprise on UT3 360.
http://www.oxm.co.uk/article.php?id=3869Quote:
How will Epic handle the online side? Gears Of War was popular online but it had its problems with host advantage and lag.
I'm not here today to talk about Gears Of War 2 but I'll tell you, it's a much better game.
So the online side will be sorted out?
I'm not here to talk about Gears Of War 2 but it's a much better game than the original. And you know, there might be a little Gears Of War 2 related surprise on the disc of Unreal Tournament 3. That's all I'm saying about that.
That's all you're saying?
That's all I'm saying.
When do we find out about that?
Soon.
You're not going to say anymore? You can't drop a bomb like that and walk away from it!
Sure I can. I just did!
I smells a GoW2 beta ala Crackdown+Halo3.
i personally enjoyed when betas were free, cause ya know, we were doing them a favor.
lol at paying for betas.
Mark Rein is kind of a cunt imo.
Most 'betas' these days aren't really for getting user feedback. If it's really a GoW2 'beta', it only exists to get people to buy UT3, which has sold relatively poorly on the other two platforms, and because it is coming out so much later on the 360, would likely sell even worse.
Since Gears isn't super far away, it would be really smart of them to have a beta in here. The game would sell at least 750K units, I am sure.
No reason to get it on 360 with no mods and like a year late.
PC version is $29 now.
I'd get it for a Gears 2 beta, though
I'd buy UT3 for a Gears 2 Beta. Then I'll spam invites to all you bastards that keep sending me Gears 1 invites.
lol bump
Epic is about to release a pretty huge update to UT3: http://www.beyondunreal.com/view_story.php?id=12466
Steam achievments OMFG. And I think you'll be able to enter retail keys into Steam to get that version.
There's also going to be a huge content patch, supposedly bigger than any pack from their previous games. Free pls.
Fuckin' awesome. I'd be happy with just a server browser improvement.
I'm so glad to hear that.
It'll be free on PC cuz no one really cares/plays the game anymore. I'm curious. Also pick up the community bonus pack. Its pretty good.
Talk about late...I mean seriously, why they hell did they wait this long to support the game?
I don't know if I even have my copy installed anymore.
YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

This game was so under appreciated.
no doubt get loud
Probably the best game I've played with my new PC so far.
OK you can now enter your retail CD key into Steam and get the downloadable soon-to-have-achievements version. DO IT
I highly suggest you follow this procedure after you register your CD key. Unless you like downloading 8gb of stuff that is already present.
So is this stuff actually out yet or is it just a "pre-load" thing?
Looks like I still have the game installed but I don't have the box or manual with me.
Anyway I can figure out what my retail key is without getting my box and manual mailed to me?
Neither. Patch isn't out yet, isn't preloaded, they're just allowing you to activate on Steam for when it is ready.
You could probably go registry diving to uncover your key.

16 new maps:
Hostile (Warfare)
Many research vessels were lost in the early days of Na Pali exploration. When the terrain or local fauna proved to be too dangerous for recovery, equipment was often abandoned and forgotten. But when it was learned that the Necris had moved in to recover this equipment for their own purposes, the NEG dispatched military salvage units to reclaim their property.
Confrontation (Warfare)
Confrontation Canyon serves as a training ground for Axon forces, improving unit readiness by providing highly realistic, stressful training across the full spectrum of infantry and mechanized conflict. It is the premiere facility for heavy armor training, and all forces must complete courses here before assignment to a Leviathan unit.
Cold Harbor (Warfare)
Axon's Stealth Research Division managed to get some of the early specs for the Necris Nightshade vehicle and have been attempting to retrofit that technology onto their own. The Necris have moved to stop this research, and despite the blockade that sealed the harbor when the NEG enforced the armistice, they have maintained a foothold here and are fervently working to destroy all remaining Axon research.
Downtown_Necris (Warfare)
The Necris are invading territories throughout Taryd, infecting conquered areas with Nanoblack to terraform them to suit their own needs. You must push back the Necris forces and restore order to this sector.
Stranded (Vehicle CTF)
Civilian contractors are often used to reliably transport supplies and equipment over short distances on Taryd, but when this cargo ship full of Axon supplies ran aground in Izanagi territory, a military unit was quickly dispatched to defend the area until a full extraction team could be assembled.
Rails (Vehicle CTF)
Even areas of new construction can be exploited as weak points in Oxida Nova's defenses, so the Iron Guard has established a series of mobile turrets to patrol the perimeter of this worksite. With several city blocks of terrain to cover, including an access point through the city's canal system, protecting this site will be a challenge to even the most experienced of teams.
Suspense_Necris (Vehicle CTF)
Suspense is the only bridge across the Alluvion strong enough to support the weight of heavy combat vehicles. It is under attack by Necris forces that control one river bank.
Dark Match (Deathmatch)
In preparation for the assault on Oxida Nova, Izanagi bombers targeted supply lines and other sites of important infrastructure. This power station was one of the first to be hit, and is now left to defend itself while running only on auxiliary reserves. Attack forces have moved in, and the facility's lights haven't even been restored. This level provides a unique twist on deathmatch in a darkened laboratory lit intermittently by a particle accelerator and emergency lights, and by muzzle flashes and explosions.
Ocean Relic (Deathmatch)
This ancient structure was discovered in the depths of an ocean rift 53 miles off the southern coast of Absalom. While the planet's seemingly endless supply of sentient Nanoblack has kept the facility active, its origins and ultimate purpose remain a mystery. This level features the slow field powerup, a portable version of the slow field deployable.
Eden, Inc. (Deathmatch)
This industrial complex was once a hydroponic research facility focused on saving rare and endangered species. When their grant ran out, funds dried up and all work was suspended. Months later, demo crews moved in to pave the path for a new highway and found that many of the research seedlings had taken root and continued to grow. This level features the introduction of deployables to deathmatch, with both a spidermine trap and an X-Ray field deployable available.
Turbine (Deathmatch)
Axon Research Corporation has many geothermal power stations just like this scattered across the northern reaches of Taryd. They form a tight grid that supplies power to the research facilities and military installations common to the area. This level features the return of a classic Unreal Tournament deathmatch layout.
Koos Barge (Deathmatch)
Continuing their long tradition of expertly crafted sea vessels, Koos Shipping now offers barge services across all of Taryd's oceans and waterways. While the prices are exorbitant, they're the only line that guarantees that your shipment will arrive on time and undamaged, even when shipping lanes take them across the frozen polar regions.
Lost Cause (Deathmatch)
The Necris have not revealed the original purpose of this crumbling structure, nor have they explained why it was decommissioned. It stands on the cliffs of Absalom as a monument to history, a living link to the Necris ancestors.
Morbid (CTF)
Morbias Station Gamma is a transport hub that services overflow traffic passing through Taryd's jumpgates. The Station offers a terrestrial shuttle, storage facilities (with quarantine services for live cargo), and a social center where guests can meet incoming visitors or hold private meetings in a neutral setting. Designed for use with the Titan mutator, Morbid includes heavy blast doors that can only be operated by Titans.
Nanoblack (CTF)
Giant vats of Nanoblack are processed and stored in facilities like this one across Omicron. The structures are largely self-sustaining once operational, and are upheld with much reverence by those who respect the power and significance of the Nanoblack seething within. Public access is highly restricted.
Shaft (CTF)
The substrata mines of Taryd produced over 800 gigatons of Tarydium last year alone. Production never stops here, not even for war, and mining drones will remain operational even as chaos erupts around them.
This news makes me so happy. Epic <3s us! M$ SUX
There are some patch impressions at Eurogamer.
I may be picking this up.
Wait... I thought that was in the editor already, at least. I guess it might not have had a vwep model? I dunno.Quote:
* The Slow Field power-up, a portable version of the Slow Field deployable
When does this hit?
I hope motherfuckers start actually playing this again when it hits.
I'm on it for sure.
16 new maps is sweet.
Still have no clue where my game case is at, though.
Did anything cool ever come out of the mod scene for this game?
The Titan pack? Out.
Price to play this entire game on Steam this weekend? Free.
Price to buy this game on Steam right now? Twelve Bucks.
buy this game sluts
Wow I <3 Epic again. BUY THIS
I can't find my UT3 dvd and the steam servers are too busy to install online. :(
Steam is getting hammered thanks to 9 bazillion people attempting to update and/or download the game for the free weekend.
Fortunately, there IS a workaround:
Pause your updating, get Patch 4 and the Titan Pack and then have Steam verify the cache. Then resume updating, and you'll only have to download a minimal (well, 160mb or so) amount.
This apparently downloaded for me when I wasn't looking and was ready to go already when I fired the game up. Score! Unfortunately I don't have much time to play this weekend.
Glad to see Epic allowing Valve to release it for a free weekend. Got some friends downloading it and I updated my copy. I'd like to see this game get resurrected.
I figured there would be a Steam sale for UT3 when Titan came out which is perfect timing for me since I'm no longer burnt out on the series and looking forward to returning (also I don't see retail copies of the PC version on shelves anymore which seems odd). It did take forever to download, though.
