Well, I just comeback from my GameStop,with Hunter the Reckoning that came out today. Cant wait till I get home to play it with DJ. The screens, movies and impressions of this game were really cool, so I'm looking forward going through its 20 or more levels, beating up zombies, vampires and other creatures in co-op mode.
But damn GameSpot, they are overcharging $5 for this game, and none of other stores like BB around me, dont have it in yet.
I'm very interested in hearing your impressions of this game. I just received my new OXM yesterday and they gave this game a 8.9 (though I take it with a grain of salt). I was impressed by the demo of this game a few issues ago, and it seems to bear similarities to Gauntlet.
XBN gave it an 8.
I'm picking it up later today, I'll let you know what I think.
after playing it for like 5 mins at my old EB that i use to work for...its pretty good..its smooth, great graphics..nice CG animation.
i didnt pick it up..but after playing and see it, i might..considering im gameless for my Xbox

How faithful is this game to the World of Darkness universe?
It sounds like just a mindless monster mash to me, which is unfortunate considering the game's excellent source material.

Oh and the game is definitely worth it from the few hours I've played. Controls are a snap to get used to and those fucking rots just don't quit coming!!!

I can't wait to pick this game up either :D I'm gonna pick it up today, along with Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (damn them for delaying Morrowind again!) before school. Gah, sitting through school knowing the games are just sitting there is gonna be tough, but at least I've got all Memorial Day weekend to bust through em :D
Well, I got some time to play through first couple levels, up to the first Boss battle.
Visually the game is pretty good, enemies have lots of details, and I love how the various body parts of the zombies can be shot off, like arms, legs and heads, and they are still coming. These zombies are much tougher than their RE relatives and faster too :)
Controls work well, characters move fast, and you control the direction with left analog, and aim with right, and shooting done with right trigger, where you jump with left. I used Defender girl cop, with 6 round colt, and katana, where DJ was using Avenger biker dude with shotgun and axe. Well, Colt is not the best weapon to use, even with 6 rounds its not powerful enough, and reloading takes too long, but Katana kicks ass especially when surrounded by zombies, you go into combos cutting them left and right, and getting life orbs in the process. Defender has a good speed and strenght, and good character to use. My fist magic edge was healing, so it was even more helpfull. :)
DJ's Avenger has power, but also little slow, so its better to use him from the distance shooting everything in sight :)
So far, the game is fun, with mission objectives like save the civilians from zombies, or clear specific part of the city from the undead.
Zombies have few different variations, and we also see couple other monster types so far, as those damn exploding spider heads, and big blue gargoyle golems.
You can pick up various power up weapons, like machine guns, shotguns, and more, and use them as long as you have enough ammo. You regual weapons, have infinite ammounts of bullets, and weaker then their power up counterparts.
The boss battle was quite interesting, and it took place in the school yard, with the scool bus on fire after it crashed into scool wall in the background. It was quite a tough battle, especially with boss doing its special move that sends the impact wave in all directions around him causing a big damage, plus there are zombies and spider heads on the battle field as well.
Well, So far we had quite a good time, and I'm looking forward playing more later tonight. We will replay this boss fight, and try to kick his ass, instead of him kicking ours :)

The best thing to do for the boss is run. Pull a gun on him (preferably the power shot-gun...that baby rips sh*t up) and fire at him while you're running away. I chose the Avenger to play my first time through, and the boss couldn't catch me, so you'll be safe with the defender. Also, before you take your first shot at the boss, for the love of God, clear out the zombies. It's so much less of a headache when you only have to worry about the boss. The machine gun was made for this. And, lucky you, if you're out of bullets, there's one waiting for you next to the slide in the playground. The playground is on the side of the school that the bus didn't crash into. And just incase you didn't notice, there's a health glyph on the ground next to the bus. That comes in handy if your character (Avenger) can't heal.

We did you power up shotguns, but we barely had any ammo for them left from the previous levels, so I had to battle him close and personal with defender, and it wasnt a very wise choice, as his attacks will hurt you alot in close up battle.
Well, I usually play balls-to-the-wall concerning power-ups, but for some reason, the Avenger's standard shot-gun was working perfectly for me. So I had amassed a metric ass load of power-ups. I think when I got to the boss, my power shot-gun was full, as well as my machine gun only needing one more cartridge...which I got in the playground. I did try to get up close and personal like with him...but after that first slam, I backed off real quick.Quote:

Hey, how similar is this to Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance in terms of multi-player? Same kind of thing, except modern settings & firearms?

yeah, lots of weird audio skipping. But, whatever...
Same here, some audio glitches here and there. Plus in game cut scenes could have used more work, they do look too blocky, especially in the beginning movie, and rave party.
As for Dark Allience comparison, this game is straight action, with little bit of leveling up, no items, weapons or stat management like in DA game though. Just good old, multiplayer beat-them-up fun :)

At first I thought the game was pretty shallow, but once you get into the meat of the game, and have to start using strategy, you realize the game is much better than you thought.
The game was made for multiplayer. The camera can get a little awkward at times, but it's easily forgiven.
As a player of the dice & paper game, I think it holds up fairly well to it. The story is good enough (Like your DM makes better ones...), and the focus is on: style, action, and death. The dialogue is well written, and well acted; even if it doesn't always synch up.
If you're a player of the 'real' game, and have an XBOX, I highly recommend you pick it up.
You have access to Hunternet, and all the messages come from Bookworm_55!!!
And if you have no idea where Hunter: The Reckoning came from, check out your local Borders, and give the book a perusal.
Well I beat the game using the Martyr. Shit that was hard. Last boss is a fucking pain in the ass till you know what to do.
As for that first boss. Running away is a good stratagey, but you can kill him MUCH faster if you use a melee weapon. After you've cleared out all the rots and those damn bomb spiders, just stay behind him (he rotates like a slug) and jump over his shockwaves. Slice and dice until dead. Easy.
i got to the satan bear in the church today with a buddy....that music seals the deal in the "fucked up department" :) do the enemies get any different or do i just look at the same zombies over and over all game?
Hmmmmm....wow, non of you guys have complained yet about this game. There are major flaws that make this game less than godley.
1. Why did the developers not put in an auto lock on? This game is just like cannon spike but without the lockon. I know the second stick is for aiming but I need lockon with these types of games.
2. Why cant this game be stickly shootemup goodness? Why do I have to complete these stupid, boring, chorish, look for this guy to move on crap?
3. No map. The levels are huge, and why no map.
3. No unlimited ammo for your other weapons. The machine gun is soooo cool, but you only have it for like 5 seconds.......
Otherwise the game is great, especially with two or more people playing. The artwork reminds me a lot of loaded. PC action RPG this game is not.
I just bought the game due to boredom. SamuraiMoogle and I played it 4 hours staight. I like the game. Swarms of enemies are fun taking down. We got to one point in the prison and got spanked a few time.. bastards. Otherwise so far its a fun beat em up. Feels a lot like Baldurs Gate on PS2. Not as much customizing stuff though. Its a decent game. I don't see how EGM gave it a 5 though. Maybe a 7. I'd give it maybe a 7.8. If you like Gauntlet and Baldur's gate you WILL like this game.
Why don't they just play the game for you? Seriously, there are hoardes of enemies and it's very easy to aim using the right stick. Lock on would make this game very awkward.Quote:

I've only played the game an hour myself, but found it to be quite impressive. A limited, but very fun experience. If they had added more depth to the gameplay, it would have been perfect.

The aiming seems to suit myself, and the rest, just fine.
Maybe you just suck at it...
I rented the game yesterday and finished it as well. I don't know what your having problems with in terms of aiming but I deffinitly had no problems. I found the game a little mindless after a while, the story was decent, and there's plenty to shoot up... it was deffinitly made to experience with some friends. Still I had a good time riping through it once, sadly I won't be playing it again. Once was good enough for me.

Hmm...you're partially right 8 way firing MIGHT have worked for the automatic weapons IFyou had infinite ammo, but since you don't have infinite ammo the set up you suggest makes no sense. Weapons like the shotgun and rocket launcher (ESPECIALLY the rocket launcher) require precision aiming that you aren't going to get with 8-way firing.Quote:

Frankly the only real complaint I have about this game is the lack of music except for when hordes of enemies are on screen.
EDIT: The other complaint is that I can't carry over the experience I gained from finishing the game to another game. GRRRRR....
im just glad my friend paid $50 for this game and not me. like someone said earlier....i prolly would never pick the game up again after the first run thru.

And for you and angel wings information, I do not suck at this game, I died once when playing simply because I did not know of the super moves. I was blasting many enimeies rather easaly, but all I could think is how much better the setup would be with auto lock on. I simply stopped playing because I got tired of looking for the stupid "lost hostages" and the exit.

Lock on would make this impossible at the higher levels. Simply because the key to keeping hordes of zombies off your ass is strafing the crowd to cause them to stagger. If I'm locked onto one target, there's no way to do that. Also the running melee attacks, and melee attacks in general, would be plain broken with a lock on.
I have a lot of little complaints about the game so I'd give it an 8/10. Single player seems to be a bit too unbalanced. It takes too long to clear a room, but at the same time its usually too easy. I'm near the end of the game now and have 40 continues.
Glad I bought it. Just the sort of Final Fight like mindless fighting action I needed to counteract my Morrowind obsession.

Its sad that people actually get lost in this game. I finished it and I has NO problems finding people at all. Level layouts are easy.
Well, I've owned the game for a few days now, and I must say it's finally gotten boring. Maybe it's the same enemy model chasing you throughout every last stinkin' level. "Oh! Look! Another zombie with the flesh missing in all the same places as the last one..."
In all fairness, it's a great game. And I still think I'll be playing it...but not anytime in the next week...or two.

I'd say I give it an 8/10 as well. Knock it up a half point if you're a fan of the dice & paper game.
I just looked at the view count on this thread, and it makes me happy that so many people care :)
I'd give it a 6.5, maybe a 7.
A short game like this needs a lot more incentive to replay it.
Funny how Smash TV had a map for its zelda inspired levels, funny how Cannon Spike was level for level one stage easy, funny how Robotron was the same, funny how zombie revenge was.........the same.Quote:

This game needs a map, end of story, the levels are just plain too big for an action game. My proof is above. I can guarantee your not that much older than me.
And as for Ammadeau, did I not say the auto lock on should be initiated by the player aka, Cannon spike? You dont need to use it, if the situation calls for quicks multi enemie shots, as you say the later levels need.
I'm playing the game through on nightmare with the defender and I'm frustrated to find she for some reason has auto lock. There's no actual indicator for it, but she'll always aim directly at the nearest zombie and this pisses me off to no end. I wanted to shoot up a truck that was _right in front of me_ to kill off a crowd of zombies, but the game just refused to let me. Annoying. -_-
Even if you didn't have trouble finding your way in this game, I still think there should have been a map. I would have been so easy to implement. I really think they worked on this game until it was 'good enough' and then shipped it. It feels rough around the edges and I've found a few bugs as well.
BTW, Nightmare isn't all that difficult. I've only had to use one continue so far and that was because of the incredibly cheap ass trick the teddy bear boss used on me and the fact that the game suddenly decided, for no reason whatsoever, that it wouldn't let me use me healing edge. I had full conviction at the time even.
Overall, I still love the game, but it could have used another month of development. Then it might have been perfect.
Yes, yes, and yes. Like I said, it's a good game...but Baldur's Gate is much more replayable. Besides, with all this talk of DMC buzzing arround, I've decided to play through it a few more times. Hunter will just have to wait for me to beat it...the third time.Quote:

yes...the bear IS cheap. the blast radius on the vomit is far larger than the actual vomit. ive been at least 2 inches (screen size) away from the puke and it still would hit me. and i love how if i would reload i couldnt jump most of the time. stupid....Quote:

Blast radius of all the bosses is sadly way too cheap. I wasn't even near the vampire's similar attack and he still hit and took off half my life, and knocked me down for a follow up attack. -_-
Bosses are a lot more tolerable with two people, but they're still a chore. Much less fun than the rest of the game, especially in nightmare when they take forever to kill.
Well, Bosses can be very cheap, and if you playing in co-op then, you got to be twice carefull, since both player gotto watch out where they going, otherwise, its easy to get stuck on both edges of the screen and get pummeled by the boss.
Teddies puke attack, was indeed quite a cheap move, and the best way, would be just to try jump diagnoly away before it reaches you. Hes jump falls are very easy to avoid though.
Playing as Judge, I found its quite easy to clear out large groups of lesser zombies with crosbow meelee push move, since it hurts and pushed multiple enemies and hurts them hard. DOesnt work well against higher zombies, like those ravers, since they deal huge damage on you up close, and much faster than other rots.
Well I refuse to buy any of White Wolfs games until we get that Werewolf the Apocalypse game we where promised, that's all I want and is that really too much to ask for :(
You know there's a werewolf in Hunter, right? He's a boss that you fight about a half dozen times for some reason. He was kind of a pansy, but looked really cool.Quote:

Where did you see werewolf in Hunter? I'm almost done with the game, but yet encounter him. Unless he doesnt look like werewolf :)
