Superman Returns

Superman Returns doesnt display properly on my PS2 or my PC. My PC will go into fullscreen mode and be 3-5 inches from even reaching the edges of the tv screen, while the rest of windows acctually achieves to reach all. wtf?

my ps2 is set to 16x9 display, games that support 16x9 work wonderfully, but superman returns on ps2 and 16x9 mode on the tv looks like crap. The width reaches the edges of the tv, but the hight is not proportionate, the only way to get it proportionate is to change the picture mode from 16x9 to zoom1. Im running PC on VGA and PS2 on Composite+s-video.

edit: excuse me, no widescreen movie works right on ps2 set on 16x9 with the tv set on 16x9 mode, i just tried king kong, same thing. width all across the screen, height not proportionate

I am thinking about getting that 14 disk set over at dailyplanet.com. looks great man. i got the regular dvd when it came out on the 28th. wish I had known sooner about the box set.

I'm a little late for this, but are you sure that film is purely 16x9?

Many films with heavy special effects (LOTR, Star Wars) actually run at a wider ratio, so you'll have black bars at the top and bottom even on a widescreen television.

PS2 can't really do widescreen. Games that support 16x9 have to be stretched out by the television and still have small black areas on the sides. If you want further proof, the widescreen option in the PS2 menu doesn't do shit but change the way the UI is displayed. Every game you run has to be set to widescreen in its own in-game menu. I used to play Dragon Quest 8, God of War, FFXII, Jak 2, etc. in widescreen mode until I realized there was a definite drop in image quality.

Aside from that, DQ8 and FFXII couldn't even take the time out to make non-stretched out, vomit-inducing widescreen menus.

In conclusion, fuck the jury-rigged widescreen on the PS2.

The PS2 (and DVDs in general,) only support a max reolution of 480p. 480p is not a true widescreen resolution. However, many DVDs and games that support the 480p resolution happen to display in such a manner that you can use your widescreen television's horizontal stretch function to have it fill the entire width without distortion.

The reason DQ8 and FF12 have shitty menus is because Square-Enix didn't bother creating the new art assets that would be required to have the menus display properly in widescreen mode. The regular 3d sections of the game look fine because changing the FOV is a relatively simple task for a developer, as it requires no new assets.

Some games (though not many,) do it right. F-Zero GX is one.

That story or the one it links to never says that Zod wont be in it. Just that they dont know. Which brings us back to square one of no new info on the sequel.

Uh... they've already said the villain was going to be 1) an alien and 2) a character that's never been on the big screen before. So, obviously not Zod. The most likely candidates IMO seem to be Brainiac, Mongul and Darkseid.
