DVD Burner

So I just bought me a DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW 16x+|NEC ND-3520A Beige IDE DVD Burner). I'm not computer savvy when it comes to putting computers together or taking it apart. So my question is, is it easy? I'm going to be taking out my CD-RW and placing the DVD burner in its place. So I would just disconnect the CD-RW and plug the DVD burner and thats it? The adapter that plugs into the CD-RW is the same that would fit the burner? Cuz I know there are a bunch of cables that arent used.

I would assume its a plug and play type of device, no software needed. There is a hacked firmware for this.. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=120432. Is it worth flashing the burner?

Yeah, just unplug your CDRW and plug in the new DVD Burner... XP should be able to figure it all out from there.

I don't know about the firmware though.

Yeah it's plug and play. I had to upgrade the firmware and my mobo drivers to get mine to work right, but odds are it'll run fine. If it makes coasters then upgrade the firmware.

I would of bought one a long time ago but at the time, I didnt need it so it didnt justify a purchase.

Word. My need for a DVD burner came about around Christmas time.

Well i have black pioneer that i got 2 years ago,, but its only 4x.. however i dont think theirs anyneed to upgrade..

What program do you use to burn your DVDs? I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition. I'm not sure if this can burn DVDs. I would assume it does but I dont have any blank DVDs yet. It also came with Roxio Easy Media Creatior Basic DVD. I dont know if I should install this or stick with Nero.
