lol BOOM CRASH BANG!!!
I played a lot of the Xbox 1 version of this yesterday. I only have 6 more cars to unlock. Also, I have all but 7 of the challenges completed.
Better late than never.
I was considering getting this, but I've not only got too many racing games for the 360 already but it's nowhere near as fun as Burnout 3. I had a blast with Burnout 2, loved Burnout 3, and bored by Burount Revenge. I think it was the traffic checking that broke the game.

Yeah, the sad thing is, traffic checking totally sucks, but the new tracks are SO MUCH better than the old ones.
Maybe in Burnout 5 they'll give you a "classic" mode or something.
What does "traffic checking" entail? I haven't played this one yet
driving in a straight line and destroying everything.
It's basically HA HA I'MA FUCK YOU UP MODE!!! ha ah!
You can run into small cars that are going in the same direction, which causes them to crash into other cars and trucks and create a massive crash orgy. While it's fun to look at, it reduces the challenge since you no longer have to worry about crashing (as long as you're driving with traffic and not against it, and no trucks or buses are in your way).Quote:

ill be playing revenge and graw all night...feel free to add me Spruchy86.
Just finished a 2 hour session on Live...it's awesome...even if sometimes when I finish a game it hangs before I can get back in the lobby.
Crushed everyones face in Crash tonight. Plan to do the same tomorrow.
I broke niggers in half.
I can't find my headset. :(
I went to Chux house tonight. Played a bunch of offline, got up to like, 5th rank. Then I created a one month gamertag "fake korly" (add it to your lists) and played some Road Rage and whatnot. I was ranked 350 after a few matches, so there can't be too many people playing yet.
Everyone add "fake korly" (no quotes) so if I'm over Chux house again some time this month we can crash together.
Oh, and for those of you who already have the XBOX version, and no HDTVs, I don't see any pressing need to upgrade this, except for the fact that the XBOX version is STILL not on their BC list. Come to think of it, did they ever upgrade the BC list again after the first month?
The game is friggin' beautiful, and stuff wrecks REAL pretty, and at 60fps no less, but the gameplay, tracks, etc all seem to be the same as the XBOX version. It loads slower also, but I wouldn't call that a gamebreaker. Also, there's no golf swing meter in the crash mode anymore, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
When playing online all of the cars are available right from the start, so don't worry about unlocking stuff to play online. The only car I didn't see driveable was the Xbox 360 car, and I'm pretty sure the only way you can get that is by taking your mrmory unit to an in-store kiosk and downloading it.
Its a great thing.Quote:

Traffic checking is a GOOD thing IMO because it made no sense to me that if I rammed an opponent from behind, it was ok, but if it were traffic I'd crash. I can see why people say it takes away from the challenge, but you should be driving on the wrong side of the road anyway. Also, there are plenty of buses and stuff that you can still crash into.
Also, there are 10 more crash junctions in the 360 version. I had some friends over last night playing, and he has had the Xbox version since launch and he thought this was a worthy upgrade (but then again, I have an HDTV). The online Rival stuff is really cool too.
BC has also not been updated since that first update where they added the Tom Clancy stuff. They were "on vacation" and would "Return in March." I guarentee anything on 360 will not get its' regular xbox version BC for a LONG time.
If BC entered into anyone's decision to buy a 360 or to sell their Xbox, they are a fucking moron. I agree with TobalRox. MS is never going to compete with themselves by making stuff on both systems BC. They also aren't going to bother with the "lesser" titles like Street Fighter...
The online Rivals system is AWESOME.
And if Chux put any clips up for download yet, download them. You get an achievement for being in the top 25 downloads, and now is probably the best time to do that since there are a lot fewer clips up now then there will be in a few weeks.
lol I spammed EVERYBODY to dl my clip, just to get points.
Also 21 Days of Carnage
Huh? That's what traffic checking is.Quote:

I went from 4k to 469 in two games with him.
just got Burnout Revenge, great game, the sense of speed and graphics are insane(this is coming from a guy that hates EA). anyways, where the fuck is the achievement list in this game? is it that trophy crap in ever category?
Just view your achievement list manually, that's what I always do. Most games don't list them in game.Quote:

Why would you have to restart everytime? Just press the guide buttone while playing and it will pause the game.Quote:

I'd just like to mention that it takes way too long to get to Crashbreaker races in single-player. I know I can just skip around between levels but I still don't understand why it takes them literally half the game to get to the new race addition. Oh well, I'll be there soon enough, only one or two more levels (I play through each race in a level in a row).
Looks like I have to sacrifice some WoW time so I can get ranked in this.I approve.Quote:

Ok, so I completely lied. Although I never got a message or invite, it would not have made a difference. There was no way I was turning off Oblivion. I'll have even more free time next week, so I will deffinately be up for some matches at least a few nights.Quote:

I am fully aware of that option, Haoh and frankly I don't care for it. I never appreciated when players did it to me and I am certainly not goign to start following down that path.Quote:

No worries, I was too busy focusing on the career mode. Once I am done with it, I'll be devoting all my time exclusively to online sessions.Quote:

I forget what it stands for, but basically it's a ranking system designed to better match players with worthy adversaries. For all intents and purposes, it works great for those who rely on the Optimatch feature.
There's some mathematical crap involved too that I haven't bothered sitting down to figure out. In the case of your rank dropping, a big part of that was due to the fact you came in 4th. No offense, but that's sucky. You're ultimately going to get pissed off if you can't place within the top 3 and end up losing to people who have substantially lower ranks in the leaderboards.
Another factor that can affect you is when one or more players drop from the game. For whatever reasons, your rank tends to dip a bit and I've experienced this on several occassions. (Once I was ranked 233 when it happened and I dropped to 577, despite the fact I came in first)
By the way -- I fully completed the career mode, so expect to see me exclusively playing online now more often. Let me know if you need help with any of the single-player challenges!
4th isn't sucky when all of the players above me were ranked significantly higher than I was.
Heh, that doesn't necessarily mean they were "better" than you either. After all, you did say you were ranked 9000. The game has been out for nearly 3 weeks now -- so their ranks are likely because they've been playing more than you have.Quote:

Yeah, I wouldn't really care other than the fact that I couldn't figure out why I dropped 16,000 after one mediocre race. :P
50% of the way through.
I grabbed the 360 racer today but I don't see it in my garage. I'm guessing it's for multiplayer use only which annoys me a bit. I'm also guessing the chain-related cars (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) are no longer being given out? Anyone know?
It's the retardedness of ELO. Did all the players remain in the race or did one of them drop?Quote:

I have to say that after playing this (mostly online) for awhile, I find the weekly resetting of the leaderboards frustrating as hell for a variety of reasons:
1.) Let's say my rank was in the top 4000 and the game resets the board. Now, I enter a room where no one knows me and my rank is "-", they are much more likely to kick me out for fear of me quitting which leads to:
2.) Quitters abound because the repurcussions are next to nil because the ranks get reset anyway.
3.) It ruins the history and career achievements over the long haul of all of the good racers out there by not rewarding their accomplishments over time.
1. Generally no one will kick you out of a room because you have an "-". In such a situation, what you're experiencing is normal and no one is exempt from. Apparently EA resets the leaderboards every Tuesday for reasons that I still don't understand.Quote:

In the case of Revenge, word on the street is that there's a scoring glitch which affect ELO. In short, it's a retarded method of stealing ELO points from other racers who finish the race. Basically the people who quit are still awarded points as if they finished the race and came in first. Word must be getting around because I've discovered a gradual increase in quitters.
3. Actually, the career achievements are meaningless, since everyone is on the same playing field when it comes to the vehicle selection. This is a huge contrast from say Takedown, where some players gained a huge advantage for having access to the F1 racers, while others hadn't advanced too far in the career mode and were stuck with the old 'n busted wheels.
The only incentive for beating the single-player mode to completion is boosting your Gamerscore. Getting back to point #1, yes, continued resetting of the leaderboards certainly hurts those who diligently spend time with the online mode... but the majority of the top 100 players are a close click and choose to play amongst themselves anyways. I've never cared much about ranking in Burnout anyways. I hit 113 last night, then dropped to 300-something, but come next Tuesday, it will be all for naught.
Bottom line: don't focus on ranking, it will be better for your nerves.
I've been in multiple rooms, when I was ranked decently, where the people in the room specifically kicked people out because they were unranked for fear of them quitting.Quote:

Hm. Pity for the guy that took 4 months to do it. LOL :p Seriously, EA messed up here and you can bet people in the community have been bitching a great deal. Everyone seems to be used to it by now. Anyways, unless that player sucks, it's really easy to get to 200 or better within a mere 2 or 3 races depending on the current rank of other players in the room. Let's say he managed to defeat a player who was 68 and he came in as a rank of 4000, every successful victory takes away ELO from the player who's ranked 68. Honestly, anyone obsessing over their rank (and maintaining needs to get out more). The top 100 players have found out how to maintain their ranking status: by playing amongst those in their friends list who are also high ranked. Why? Because they fear losing their ELO. It's not that much different than how people act on DOA4/DOAU.Quote:

Wait... they don't work online? But I can't find it in singleplayer, is there something I was supposed to do besides just downloading it?Quote:

We had to put up a sign at the store saying that "EA Sports is working on a patch" yes, it said Sports.
Hopefully the patch is for the ranking/online system and not for car designs. :P
I got this on Sunday, played it way too late last night, didnt get enough sleep, and now am at work and hate my life.
I need to get this cheap.... should have bought it at $9. I guess Burnout Legend PSP will have to do for now.
Burnout Legend PSP will not do.
It is pretty good, I wish I can check same way traffic like Revenge. But it is amazing to play a BO portable like this. Now don't get me started on the DS BL.... that is a POS.Quote:

It does have a fair amount of graphical glitches but the underlying gameplay is fast and furious and you don't really notice it until you stop/crashed (mostly from the crashing game). So I don't mind it too much and certainly does not hinder gameplay. But YMMV.
yeah, you also notice it when you fall through the map (although in fairness that happened to me in Revenge too)
I had never fallen through a map (yet), I played at least 10 hours so far.
I fell through the map in BOR last night. But no matter, its a great game (BO and PGR the two best racing franchises? Maybe...).
I haven't fallen through a map yet during play, but it has happened after a race. I enjoy watching some of the graphical glitches (like having walls just disappear suddenly), and they don't get in the way of playing the game well. I'm now 70% complete with this, which is the most I've completed of any Burnout to date. I love everything but the redone Crash mode, which is still annoying even after getting the hang of the meter.
This is my most played game on Xbox Live. We should play together sometime (on the 360 of course).
This thread needs a bump so I can say:
Fuck you EA.
First I try to hop into some split-screen races with my buddy, and immediately I recognize that the “takedown glitch” is still in here (I played this a few times on a friend’s 360 back when it first came out), and despite what I’m sure has been a lot of griping from what little playing community remains, EA apparently doesn’t give a fuck about fixing it.
This means that anytime I take someone out, I have a pretty good chance of crashing myself, since the game idiotically feels the need to switch to a replay of my opponent crashing instead of letting me continue my driving with the normal camera.
Ok, I can deal with crashing every now and then, since I kind of suck anyway, let’s just go to the next track…oh wait, I only get one fucking track to race on out of the box!
Well, maybe there’s some sort of code that unlocks all of the cars/tracks…after checking Gamefaqs, it turns out there’s nothing, so if I want to pop the game in and race with more than two shitty cars on this one track, I need to plow through the single player game? Fuck that shit.
Let’s try online then. At least then we’ll be able to play more than one fucking track, and won’t have to deal with the annoying AI. Oh wait, looks like only one Xbox live account per machine can play online. Furthermore, I need a separate, “EA account” just to get the game online.
Well, this wouldn’t be so bad were it not for the fact that I can’t even connect to a fucking online game (much less host one)! Apparently I am not alone either, as a quick Google search reveals that there are quite a number of players for whom Burnout Revenge remains the only 360 game that will not work online.
Typical EA bullshit.
In fact, I can’t think of a single EA game I’ve played recently that didn’t have a multitude of online issues (namely, Madden ‘06/’07 and Battlefield 2/Special Forces).
Since it’s had a bit more time in the cooker, I really hope that Burnout 5 turns out a lot better than this obvious rush-job.
You can turn off the replay of takedowns in the options menu.
don't ruin the EA rage.
when itried hopping online the other day with revenge, i was not connecting to lobbies, at all, and the times that i would i would get kicked out. Kicking people out in custom games ok fine, but ranked matches? Apparently since youre new to the game and unranked people always kick out.
I don't play on ranked matches much in anything unless I'm really into it. That said, I don't really have any problems connecting at all.
I've tried to play ranked matches in GRAW 2 and I'm almost always kicked out. Its pretty lame. Are console shooter people always this ridiculous, or is it more because space on the servers are limited to 16. I rarely have these kind of problems with PC games.
I think it's less of a console-shooter problem and more of an Xbox Live problem, reason being, Xbox Live is serious business, especially when online rankings and achievment points are concerned.
Not sure how my friend and I overlooked this (unless the option was added in a later patch or something), but thanks for the info; I'll give it a shot.
After doing some more research, it looks like my online issues might be stemming from the fact that my network connection's NAT is set to "Strict" (thanks to my overprotective campus connection), which means that I can only play with users whose NAT status is "Open."
We were having some trouble with Worms last night too (and I've had trouble with the past in UNO), so I have a feeling that this is part of my problem.
I have my NAT set as open, explains why you could connect to my UNO game.
Well, I'm down for Burnout on 360 or regular Xbox if anyone wants to add me and play.
Anyone know how to get four star rankings on really short Preview Laps?
Like in the Unsafe Preview Lap, I have no problem driving fast enough to receive the Gold medal, but the race is so short (55 seconds) that I don't have enough time to drive reckless enough to get my rating past three stars.
I hold the boost button down the entire race, drive on the wrong side of the road whenever possible, traffic check the majority of the cars, launch off both ramps on either side of the first alleyway, and drift around every sharp corner. What else can I do?
Do it better. I'll boot up my copy later and see if I can offer some tips.
Sat down and got it my first time, not sure where you're having problems so I'll just lay out the whole thing.
First and foremost, hold down gas and boost and never let go for any reason. Don't check any traffic (except for where I say) and you only need the one ramp I mention.Hope that helps, and if you want more or are looking for other tracks just ask.
- The instant you start move your ass to the right side for boost and follow it up to the giant ramp. Right before you go up the ramp your rank should go up to Good.
- Take the left (straight) path and powerslide through the sharper turn to come out of it. Either when that powerslide finishes or in the straightaway that comes right afterwards your rank should upgrade to Great.
- Follow the rest of the track in a straightforward manner and stay on the right side of the road. Make tiny powerslides to help your meter if need be, and you might have to check a single car during the final stretch when two of them appear near each other in order to finally push yourself into Awesome. Regardless, it will happen during the final stretch/wide right turn.
Here's a really shitty video of that (sloppy but successful) replay I just took with my phone. It's .3g2, which plays on my computer though I'll be damned if I know what codec that is. Hopefully it works on your machine as well.
When the timer is at 45 seconds is when I traffic checked a car, and I believe that's when I hit Awesome. I wish that replay showed the meters.
Damn, I was hoping to get here before anyone responded. Thanks for the detailed instructions, but I figured out about an hour ago that it was totally my fault. This:
I thought I was holding down boost the whole time, but I was actually letting off for brief moments when I went into a drift. As soon as I realized I was doing this, and forced myself to really not ever let off the boost, it was a piece of cake.
Thanks, though. I may very well be back for help on another track. I'm having fun right now, starting at the beginning classes, and trying to get all Perfects on everything.
Yep, it works! Is that the Xbox version? Looks a little different compared to 360, but still surprisingly good.
I haven't played this in awhile since I hit a skill wall in the last few races to get Perfects. With Burnout 5 around the corner I might get back into this. Press has been able to play it and we're getting the demo this month. I'm getting really fucking psyched for it, it's been more than 2 years since Revenge came out.
