Unfortunately, in a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls on your cell phones.

I strongly urge all of you to call this number from your cell phone: 1-888-382-1222

It is the national Do Not Call list. It blocks your number for 5 years. You must call from your cell phone. It takes less than a minute and will save you a lot of headache in the future, and probably some money too.

No offense, but do you have any proof that this is going to happen. Generally, telemarketers have not been allowed to call cell phones because users get a per-minute charge when using one, unlike home phones where generally, once you pay the initial flat fee, all local calls are free.

I have trouble beleving that this is going to happen without some sort of proof. Sounds like the typical urban legend that goes around to scare people.

True, but I also don't see any harm in adding my cell phone to the do not call list.

This crap again? They can't release your cell number to telemarketers. You're paying for a certain amount of minutes, like Shidoshi said.

*EDIT* As a goof, I called Verizon and asked them about this, and they said they're not releasing their cell phone customer's numbers to telemarketers (or anyone else) either now or in the future.

Does leaving voice mail count against your minutes? Cause if that's the case, I ain't putting up with this.

MAYBE this is a scam and people who CALL that number get put on telemarketers lists.

Shouldn't hurt anything, but if a telemarketer outside the US feels like being slimy, and we all know that could never happen, could use it as a free list of valid telephone numbers.


Rule of thumb, if some tells you something on the internet, and they make it sound as urgent as this, its usually a hoax.

What IS happening is a few companies will start publishing a cell phone directory, it is an OPT-IN only program, so you have to ask to be listed for your number to show up.

I'm a telemarketer and we call people on the Do Not Call list all the time (some solicitation calls are allowed even if you're on the list). Unlisted numbers and shit too. You're never safe. Companies buy numbers off of your credit card company or new movers lists or anywhere else.

If you get harassed by telemarketers you're probably retarded. Just say "Remove my name from all of your calling lists" and you'll never hear them again. Takes 3 seconds. If they don't do it, you can have them fined a shitload. Sad thing is most people just pretend to be the babysitter or say they're not home and get called back every other day, because they have no balls for some reason.

Ok. what the heck is going on. I thought that the whole issue is dead and now I hear that today is the last day to get on the DNC list for cell phones. I look up google and I see almost nothing but old articles from last year. Any new word on this shiznit or should I go ona rampage over telemarketing calls?

Oh that works great. I remember about 8 years ago being called just about everyday at home by AT&T to switch over to thier long distance calling plan. I told them to quit calling and to put me on the do not call list. A couple of days later, another asshole calls. Not only do I tell the guy to fuck off, but 5 minutes later another jack ass calls me.

Am I the only one that see's telemarketers as a free prank phone call? As a matter of fact I haven't had a telemarketer call in the longest fucking time. Man those guys are so much fun.
