I'll be graduating with a degree in Print Journalism with a minor in Film Studies next month. At my school I work in the Media Services Department. Basically when Professors have problems in the high-tech classrooms I have to go show them how to use a document camera and stuff like that.
I also occasionally work at a golf shop that my dad owns. Been doing that for about 8 years when I'm not doing anything else.
Since I'm graduating I'm looking for a full time job at a newspaper, magazine or something. I'd rather write a novel than a news story, but I figure I gotta start somewhere.
I got my education by going to a year long broadcasting trade school course instead of going for the full college degree. I eventually got my first job in Lansing, Michigan at a NBC affiliate working as a Production Assistant for about $8 an hour wich mostly consisted of ripping news scripts for the anchors, running the teleprompter, and sometimes running studio cameras. My job was working on the morning news so I had to be there at 4am. After a few months a position openned up in their Master Control room. I applied for it and got it along with a raise and moved up to $10 per hour.Quote:

Anyway after a year I left and got a Master Control job for a little more money at the FOX station and I've been working here now for about 5 years. Before television I didn't really have many jobs that are worth mentioning. Just random labor like janitorial or retail jobs just to make some money.
On the weekdays, I work at Palomar Technologies Inc doing simple computer and networking stuff. Its boring and I'm the youngest person there by 10 years, but I have my own cubicle of solitude and work any hours I please.
On the weekends, I work at Applebees as a 'food expedieter.' You see all the sauces and garnishing on your plate? I put that stuff there. Very fast paced and the pay sucks, but there are many pretty ladies there.
I'll be finishing up my second year at community college in a month as a design major. I only have about 2/3rds the credits I should, and not a lot of them are transferable to a major school. I'm kind of freaking out because I don't know what I want to do with my life, and the path that I have sort of chosen I'm not too sure I'm any good at. And the others paths that I've considered hold the same. I thought the college years were supposed to be the best years of my life? I call bullshit.
MarkRyan, how is the pay at IGN? Because Brisbane aint cheap.
I can see why some people think that, but I also think the post-graduation years, when you are on your own, making your own money, paying your own way, setting up a good life, etc., can be better.Quote:

I just got offered a comission job today, to basically be a seamstress. Unfortunately, the woman wanted some eveningwear done for her and her family- and I'm not too experienced with jackets and pantsuits yet, so I think I'm going to have to decline for now, which sorta sucks.
26 isn't even old, man. You better hope you'll be thinking about the bone at 26.
