I work primarily in an office where I have to print labels for the products we manufacture. Quite often, I have to sub in for someone else in the factory and do product testing. We manufacture lifting slings, lashings and harnesses. On paper, the job sounds sweet, sit on your ass and print things, but you're always busy doing mind numbingly boring work. As a result, I always fuck up from my mind wondering from the job at hand. one time I broke the tensile tester and it cost $8000 to fix, another time a mistake I did on a label resulted in a small airport being closed for half a day.

(my dad designed the site LOL)
EDIT: I was just looking for a pic of our tensile tester, and I didn't realise how pussy most testers are. The machine I operate is a 6 metre monster which lays horizontally and is capable of 800kN of pressure. To test the products, they're stretched end to end at double the labeled capacity (they usually break at 4x). You know how uncomfortable it is when someone is aiming an elastic band at you ready to fire? imagine that but with a 50kg 6m band with 40 metric tonnes of pressure behind it. Its quite scary sometimes.
What the hell is that?Quote:

Bad idea, learn as you go. Practical work is easily the best way to learn. You'll force yourself to learn for the money.Quote:

Also, a lot of people here are graphic designers or are in a graphic design related field (haha Dyne, prepress). I'm happy with the field so far, although I know i've lucked out with my internship. I'm designing albums and shit, but I know a lot of kids in my class get stuck doing reception or designing newspaper fliers.
 SUGAR LAND! Is it everything I dream it is and more?Quote:

I work in a bakery/pastry shop making the stuff and cleaning around when I'm done. The pay is great, I do very little work, and when I do, I get free cake. Can't complain.
You probably make more money than me. Go Airforce. :\Quote:

I work in a small office near my house as an "administrative assistant" aka "secretary", doing all of the usual secretary stuff ie, answer phones, make phone calls, make trips to the post office, computer work, etc. I'm also the assistant to my boss, and I make $11 bucks an hour. I love my job ^^
It sure beats working at the supermarket.
And I also work in the school's audio lab where I help students put their radio projects together.
I get to live in the dorm I'm currently in all summer for free, thanks to my new job. Groups who come through Boston can rent space out, and myself and the rest of the Summer Conference staff are basically hotel employees. We'll be working the front desk, cleaning, making beds, etc. Considering it's a job and rent-free housing all in one, I'm extremely pleased with this arrangement.
I make sammiches (and by make, I mean do nothing since my shift is dead) for $13 an hour off the books and eat lots and lots of food.
The airforce makes crap, but $1000 in the military is like $10000 for civilians.Quote:
